posted12/06/2004 08:42 PM (UTC)byI just beat the game with Noob smoke, and i for one am upset about the original Sub-zero unable to make amends(for those reading a captilize S in Subbys name is for the original as lower case is the younger brother).
I am sure there are some others that feel this way. But i know Sub-zero should have some good. So I came up with an alternate idea so no one gets upset, but still have this potential story.
Raiden watchs from the heaven after Sub-zero just saved earthrealm. 2 years has passed since, and he realizes, as much as Sub-zero tries to pervent himself from becoming what he hates, Sub-zero will never be able to wash away the corruption on his soul.
"There's gotta be another way." Raiden asked the Elder. "Sub-zero may have been wrong in the past, but his trying his hardest to fight his dark side."
Then a booming voice from the elders gods state "If its his dark side thats in the way for cleansing his soul, then excise the evil side so Sub-zero could be save."
Raiden didn't know if this was possible, but its worth a try.
The mortal kombat tournament arrived. In the third match, Sub-zero was killed by Scorpion. Sub-zero's soul reacted the realm of pergatory to determine where he shall go. Raiden came in just in time, before Sub-zero was damned in the neatherealm. Raiden came by Sub-zero's side, and with his staff, now glowing, tapped Sub-zero on the head.
Raiden uttered mysitical words, and then, another ninja poped out of Sub-zero. The monster was shierking at Sub-zero, who jumped horrified of this fiend.
"Ahhhh, what is that thing!" Sub-zero screamed
Raiden then sighed and answer " as much as you tired and reconcile with your past, you could not cleanse your soul. This is your evil half. "
Raiden turned to the creature and belowed " And you, you vile thing, shall be banished to the neitherealm, where you will never hurt anyone agian!"
A portal open beneath the creature, was swallowed up in the void.
This was suppose to be the last of the creature. But evil can never be destoryed.
so what do you think? Please post.
Or what other ideas or stories do you have? Sub-zero doesn't have to good and can remine evil. I just would like it if he didn't go to the netherealm.

it's creative... but needs some work... the dialouge is kind of B actor-ish and corny; ex: I don't think Raiden would say 'gotta'
also, the tournament has been all but abolished from the storyline
*not directed towards your story, but to the Deception storyline* and as for Noob Saibot turning out to be the original Sub-Zero, I kind of like it, kind of hate it... for one it's a great twist, but then again, the brother vs brother (or family feud type thing) is very cliche

why would raiden care so much as to save the original sub-zero? he even said that his soul was tainted with evil in MK:Mythologies. The original sub-zero was never a "good-guy" (not really a baddie either, though); raiden is a god and would not concern himself with things such as that. And, as if Smoke has taught us NOTHING, trying to reconcile for your wrongs is as good as actually reconciling - if the original sub-zero actually tried to reconcile himself he would've been allowed to enter the heavens. furthermore, purgatory was never an MK, realm...sorry to burst your bubble. You may be dissappointed with the twist, and I'm sure many people are: but it is canon...despite the fact that Noob killing Subby is not confirmed, Noob being the original Sub-Zero is canon...there is not much you can think around it, the original sub-zero only appeared in 2 video games anyway: In MK1 he was a baddie with an ulterior motive to screw over Shang Tsung and get paid for his murder, and in MK:M he was working for Quan Chi, and was warned by Raiden that his soul was being tainted but yet he delivered the amulet anyway. the original sub-zero was not a good guy - i like your idea, but it is entirely wishful thinking with NO canonical basis
sorry if that sounded flame-y - i did not inted it to

I agree, I like the fact that Sub-Zero turned into a wraith after he was killed by Scorpion. I think now that Sub-Zero had turned into Noob Saibot he will be even stronger than ever.
As for the younger Sub-Zero, I hope he runs into his brother in a future Mortal Kombat game. If my brother had turned into something like Noob Saibot I would try to help him, but since Noob Saibot will have no connection to his past he will try and kill Sub-Zero or turn him into one of his slaves just like Smoke.
I also have a feeling that Scorpion will be playing a role in Noob Saibot's storyline and Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Noob Saibot will be involved in a dramatic triangle relationship with Sub-Zero caught in the middle. I could picture this relationship to be just like the Terminator 2 relationship between both Terminators and John Connor. Noob Saibot will be after Sub-Zero with the aid of Smoke, and since Scorpion promised that he would protect Sub-Zero he would interfere with Noob Saibot's plans and fight his old nemesis to settle the score that they had started way before the first Mortal Kombat.
I like this new twist in the story, and I am not disapointed with it because I favored the younger Sub-Zero more than the original.

Scorpion never vowed to protect the younger Sub-Zero that detail is non-canon because otherwise, Why would Scorpion still be after Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat 4?

At the end of Mythologies, Sub-Zero said to the grandmaster, and I quote:
"I vow to honor and serve the Lin Kuei"
He knew the danger. He knew the corruption. He didn't care. I too find it hard to beleive there wasn't SOME good in him, but he is evil. I love this story turn...my long-standing thoery finally true.

Quan Chi manipulated Scorpion into believing the younger Sub-Zero was involved with the massacre of Scorpion's clan and family.
Least that's theory I believe because the idea that Scorpion never vowed to protect Sub-Zero just ruins Scorpion's character and is just fucking stupid IMO.
I like that the original Sub-Zero was turned into Noob Saibot. Adds a layer of tragedy to his story. Quan Chi wanted Sub-Zero to join him but Sub-Zero was so defiant about it. Then he dies because of Quan Chi and is turned into Shinnok's slave.

i juss cant wait till scorpian finds out noob saibot is the original sub zero itll be like battle of tha titans - Spectre vs Wraith its awesome and i really dont mind the original sub zero being noob , it adds a whole new storyline to tha game , i cant wait to see mk7 to see wat unfolds i always thought the scorpian/sub zero story line was the best and now with noob it juss got a whole lot better!
BUT IT IS CANON, AND I HAVE PROOF!
when you look carefully at Sub-Zeros ending in MK2, he could not realized why his life was spared by Scorpion. In aScorpions ending it is indeed mentioned that wowed to protect the younger one.
This happens while Scorpions family is still alive.
After or during MK3/trilogy Quan Chi murders the hasashi family's remnants. Itr is even stated in the bios that Scorpion REANNOUNCES his wow of protecting Sub-Zero (tough I don't know where, but it is certainly in the game, or in the manuals).
After all this deception i'm not sure that Scorpion would hold to his wow, bu then again, seeing how mercyfull the younger Lin Kuei is, he may have a spark of sympathy for Sub-Zero. But never forget, that they are counterparts and they would eventually fight each other for a decisive match (it is time for Sub-Zero to kick Scorpions ass, becouse he lost to him already twice)
A second weird thing is, why would the older Sub call himself Noob Saibot? Could it be possible that the Noob Saibot is the new being what has spawned from the original Lin Kuei? Or is it simply the power that transformed and possessed his corrupted soul?

Although, he COULD go back to his Sub-Zero form again, if he were to use a special weapon like the Kriss....
Technicaly yes, but two Sub-Zeros in the same time would confuse things a little (+Frost, too many freezers in the game).
I don't think that they will give his original form back, becouse that in some way would push aside the younger Sub, which we all love. The thing that the younger sibling dies (non-cannon, but who knows) and Noob becomes Sub again, well, that would certainly give a serious twist to the series-and not a good one by the way.
Sub vs. Noob or Scorp vs. Noob is what I think we shall see in the near future (or Ashrah vs. Noob, but this has lost it's significance copared to this family fight :)

It'll be interesting to see how Scorpion and Sub-Zero react to Noob Saibot's true identity, but I'm also looking forward to seeing what part Sareena will play.
In Mythologies they hinted that she and Sub-Zero may have liked each other. I think she probably did because, as I said earlier, he was so defiant to Quan Chi. She probably liked that because she hated Quan Chi.
So when she finds out he was turned into Noob Saibot will she try to help him turn back? Or will he try to get her to join him and his new Brotherhood?

Noob is Sub! woah, it all makes sense! why wasn't Noob in MKM? in Mk2, when you fight the hidden characters, why didn't it say, "now you must fight an undiscovered warrior from MK1" when you fight Noob? in Classic Sub's MKT ending, it never said who was under the mask, but it did say that it freaked people out and whoever was going to be in the next tournament. Why did Noob have an ice based fatality in mk4 (I've heard so, but I don't remember him having fatalities). And finally, how did Noob know how to mess with Smokes programming in MKD? I think Boon & co had MKD planned since MK2 with all the MK2 & 3 dragon king and Kamidogu sightings

In Mythologies, Quan Chi is responsible for the death of Scorpion's entire clan. I'm not sure where you ever got the idea that Scorpion's family is still alive...they were dead before the first MK even took place. Scorpion's MK2 ending didn't occur completely...endings in MK, up until Mortal Kombat 4, were all under the pretense that the specific character won the tournament. Scorpion did let Sub-Zero live when he saw that he spared the life of an opponent, but he didn't vow to protect him.
Scorpion NEVER renounced his vow to protect sub-zero, because he never made a vow to protect sub-zero. Scorpion's UMK3/MKT bio was "SHao Kahn tries to take the souls occupying Earth's Hell, but the plan goes awry and Scorpion is released. He is a neutral entity.' In his ending, it says that he sided with Shao Kahn but when he saw that SUb-Zero had returned, he left Shao Kahn's side. HOWEVER, I can understand your confusion...Scorpion's UMK3/MKT ending says that he turns against KAhn when he sees that one of the Chosen Warriors is Sub-Zero, who he vowed to protect. But REMEMBER...before MK4, scharacter endings were always under the pretense that the character wins the tournament, and in most cases, events in their endings didn't happen.
The problem with Scorpion and Sub-Zero is that I don't beleive they intended for them to become such strong central characters in the story. In MK4, we realize that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are still enemies. They haven't become allies and Scorpion still thinks that this Sub-Zero is the same one that killed him and, as far as he knows, murdered his family and clan. In Scorpion/Sub's endings, it is revealed that QUan Chi is responsible. Scorpion's MK4 ending occurs...Scorpion defeats Sub-Zero and Quan Chi reveals his treachery. Then, while trying to send Scorpion back to Hell, Scorpion brings Quan Chi with him.
Scorp's clan and family died during the events of MKM. Sub and Scorp, as revealed from mK4 onward, never had an alliance.
As for Noob SAibot, Sub-Zero died and assumed the form of a wraith. He was still sub-zero in theory, but he was a completely different entity now...he was Noob Saibot.
Scorpions family was alive after MK1, just look at his ending bio: "he must never know his family". Take it into consideration that Scorpions ninja clan the Shirai-ryu, altough comes from medieval times, doesn't resembles those clans that are originaly "ninja". It is a warrior sect in the 90's, so it is quite possible that he had his family outside his clans borders. the second thing is that originaly in MK1-2 (but not so sure in MK2) Scorpion was a member (marked for death becouse of treason) of the Lin Kuei. MK4 and MK Mythologies counters this storyline and Midway gave him another clan, what was eradicated by Quan Chi. How could one man eradicate a whole clan? -there must be remnants.
There was no word of his family's death untill MK4, so they survived somehow. The clan was gone by that time tough.
I looked after it, and most of the endings in MK1-3 doesn't state that the characters won the battles. Some yes, but there was no word of tourna-ment winning in most of them.
Gavoks MK history is quite precise, so that could be accepted as reason-ing. Besides, the two theories don't contradict each other, so Scorpion family gone or not 'till won't change a thing. Not even in Noob Saibots his-tory. And it could explain why Scorpion got so mad at Sub-Zero in MK4. You know, if his family would be dead by the time, Scorpion would surely know, and then Quan Chis reasoning in the MK4 ending would make no reason, becouse Scorpion already would have known, that his family is dead. Then again, for all the time, the killers identity could have been unkown to Scorp.
I go with my explanation since it explains Scorpions motivation in MK4.
And Scorps bios in trilogy/ltimate MK3 precisely states than when Khan tried to gather souls from the netherrealm/hell, he was released, and agreed with Shao Khan ro fight on his side in exchange for freedom.
When he saw the younger Sub-Zero he remembered the wow, what he made in MK2 (remember, it is irrevelant that Scorp would win the tourna-ment) when he found out that the new Lin kuei is mercyfulll.

This is sort of why i also came up with this. Because Sub-zero has a different name, like how did this happen. Why he became a wraith of all things? How come he doesn't have his freezing abilities either, but a teleport and cloud like abilities?
Noob-Saibot has always been a engimatic character, and a twist is good, but i thought some reasons could also make it more interesting.
I thank everyone who posted this thread, for showing me another half of the story about Sub-zero i didn't really look at.
But if anyone of you have a little story about Noob-Saibot's origon, then just post it here. I sort of want this to be a thread talking about story potential (wiether its Sub-zero being Callous or not).

I firmly believe that Sub-Zero entered the Netherrealm upon his death due to the treachery of Quan Chi. Care for my explanation?
First and foremost, I cannot explain Sub-Zero entering the Netherrealm upon death due to Quan Chi's treachery without first explaining Scorpion. In fact, I think Scorpion kept entering the Netherrealm because of Quan Chi's lies, too. We all know the Lin Kuei/Shirai Ryu rivalry, and it is CERTAIN that Quan Chi was aware of it. He probably knew the Lin Kuei was much more capable of carrying out Quan Chi's goals of acquiring Shinnok's Amulet than the Shirai Ryu was, and to prove this, he bought the services of both clans, asking for the greatest warrior of each of the two clans to execute the mission of finding the Sacred Map of the Elements. As fate would have it, Sub-Zero and Hanzo Hasashi (code-named Scorpion), the finest assassins of the Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu respectively, were the ones sent. I'm quite certain Quan Chi may have witnessed this fight either from a concealed location, or by way of telepathy. And if he witnessed it from a concealed location in the Shaolin Temple, he could've easily teleported to the Shirai Ryu compound, and then teleported back to Lin Kuei headquarters. Either way, he knew Sub-Zero defeated and killed Scorpion. The Lin Kuei's desired fee for the task was the total elimination of the Shirai Ryu, and to bring the head of the clan's leader to the Lin Kuei Grandmaster. I'm thinking that the Lin Kuei Grandmaster knew about Quan Chi's plan to acquire Scorpion's services for "insurance" as a means to distract him so the sorcerer could strike the Shirai Ryu behind Scorpion's back, otherwise, I don't think the Lin Kuei would've allowed him to send Sub-Zero on this mission without killing the whole Shirai Ryu first. Quan Chi may not have needed Scorpion distracted because of his fighting skills are learned through sorcery, however, the fact that he actually did have Scorpion distracted kinda shows that he posed somewhat of a possible threat to Quan Chi's plans. Scorpion knew that Sub-Zero was breaking into the temple, and he seemed to have a huge vendetta against Sub-Zero even while he was alive. However, I think it was caused by arrogance, because I'm convinced that Scorpion wanted a fight against the Lin Kuei's finest thief and assassin so he could prove that the Shirai Ryu was superior to the Lin Kuei. Scorpion's words, and the fact that Scorpion waited for Sub-Zero instead of taking the map right there and then, back this up. He also entered the Shirai Ryu so he could make enough money to provide a better quality life for his wife and child, so I think he was in the Shirai Ryu only for the money, even though his intentions were good. Let's not forget the fact that he joined the Lin Kuei's rival clan, and since Scorpion accepted a mission from a third party like Sub-Zero did, it's safe to say that the Shirai Ryu's missions are done the same way as the Lin Kuei's. After all, the Shirai Ryu was founded by an ex-Lin Kuei. I think all of that combined is what tainted Scorpion's soul with evil, and as we know, he was tainted when he died at Sub-Zero's hands, and even though Sub-Zero is the murderer, Quan Chi was the mastermind behind Scorpion's death. Sub-Zero, however, did not know that Quan Chi gained Scorpion's services until he came to the Lin Kuei compound. If Sub-Zero's soul had not been tainted with evil yet by this point, I would say that him killing Scorpion when he begged for mercy after defeat would be the first stain on his soul (the first one we know of in full detail anyway), aside from his membership in a clan that profits from missions given by evil people.
The next stain on Sub-Zero's soul comes when Quan Chi sends Sub-Zero to retrieve the amulet for Quan Chi in the Temple of the Elements; he actually accepts this mission, and doesn't know the danger behind it. I'm not going to explain all the crap you do inside the temple, as it's too long and drifts away from the topic of my post, so I'll skip to the point when Sub-Zero defeats ALL the elemental gods in the temple. He completed his mission, but just when he's about to grab the amulet, Quan Chi snatches it, and says all this stuff about Shinnok invading Earthrealm. That's another evil stain on Sub-Zero's soul right there; helping Shinnok's amulet fall into the wrong hands. When Quan Chi stole the amulet, we all know that Raiden sent Sub-Zero to the Netherrealm to get the amulet back because not only did Sub-Zero cause the amulet to fall into the wrong hands, but also because Raiden knew that Sub-Zero's soul was tainted with evil. Sub-Zero accepted Raiden's mission, and I would've thought that this would cleanse his soul a bit. However, Quan Chi sent Sub-Zero on TWO missions, and only paid the Lin Kuei for ONE of them. This is what originally pissed Sub-Zero off, and this was his sole reason for accepting Raiden's mission. This could have been yet another evil stain on his soul. Sub-Zero went to the pits of Hell to get the amulet back, and I think the time spent in the Netherrealm only increased the evil taint on his soul. One thing that could have cleansed Sub-Zero's soul is that when he fought Sareena, he could have killed her after he kicked her ass, but Sub-Zero granted her mercy when she begged for it. This cold assassin actually having an increase in his heart's temperature all of a sudden? You COULD say that, but there's another reason Sareena was shown mercy; Quan Chi was about to give the amulet to Shinnok, and if he has already, Shinnok was about to enter Earthrealm, and time was against Sub-Zero, so he really didn't have time to kill Sareena. However, if Sub-Zero really wanted any cleansing on his soul, he really should have killed Sareena, because Sareena is a demon whose human appearance is caused by Quan Chi's sorcery. Sub-Zero may have had cleansing in his soul when he stood face to face with Quan Chi in his sanctuary. "Join me and my Brothers of the Shadow and worship our dark lord Shinnok." That was the offer made to Sub-Zero by Quan Chi. What was Sub-Zero's response? "NEVER, SORCERER!" And Quan Chi's response? "Then, so shall it be, NINJA!" (I don't think I remember the EXACT dialogue, but I think this is close enough) What exactly can I get out of this? Well, Quan Chi knows that Sub-Zero's soul is stained with evil, and is confident that Sub-Zero will join the Brotherhood of Shadow, so he makes this offer to Sub-Zero, hoping he would join willingly. However, Sub-Zero REFUSED, and RIGHT IN QUAN-CHI'S FACE, TOO! After that, I think what Quan Chi was saying is that if Sub-Zero wouldn't join willingly, he'd join by FORCE. It was obvious that Quan Chi was saying that he was going to kill Sub-Zero, and get his lost soul to join the Brotherhood of Shadow.
After Sub-Zero returns with the (fake) Amulet and Raiden warns Sub-Zero that what Quan Chi said about his soul being tainted with evil was true and that only he could change it, we all know that Sub-Zero was invited by Shang Tsung to compete in Mortal Kombat. Well, there's a possibility that it is a retcon of his original reason for competing in the tournament, which was the asassination of Shang Tsung. Normally, I would go with what makes more sense, but in this case, it is both. See, after Shang Tsung bought Sub-Zero's services for him to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament, one of Shang's wealthiest enemies could've paid off the Lin Kuei to have Shang Tsung assassinated. I also believe that the idea for the soulless cyber-assassin was also given to the Lin Kuei Grandmaster by Shang Tsung, himself, as Shang Tsung does steal souls. This would probably be the final stain on Sub-Zero's soul. And this wealthy enemy of Shang Tsung's has a bounty on Shang Tsung's head that is so high, Sub-Zero felt that this would be his final mission with the Lin Kuei, and would retire from the clan if he completed it. Though it did not happen, his MK1 ending backs this up. My guess is that the "wealthy enemy of Shang Tsung" was really Raiden in mortal disguise. I think Raiden made the bounty high so that he could coerce Sub-Zero to retire from the Lin Kuei. It would've worked had Sub-Zero actually succeeded in this mission. But alas, Scorpion came back from the pits of Hell and extracted his revenge. May the original Sub-Zero rest in peace...
But Sub-Zero's soul is not at rest. He entered the Netherrealm as a wraith, and became Noob Saibot and joined the clan he once refused to join, while his younger brother carried the torch and the name Sub-Zero (or rather, Noob Saibot) once carried. Why do I think Quan Chi was responsible for Sub-Zero's entry to the Netherrealm? Well, for one, he admitted he has forseen Sub-Zero's success in the map of the elements mission and that he has forseen that Sub-Zero was the only mortal who could defeat the elemental gods within the Temple of the Elements. If Quan Chi has forseen that, then there's no way he couldn't have forseen the threat Sub-Zero posed to his schemes. He likely knew ahead of time that Sub-Zero would kill Scorpion, and that Scorpion posed a possible threat against his plans, so I think he set Scorpion up while he killed the ninja's clan and family. Quan Chi probably has a thing for manipulating possible threats if he sees any use for them. First, he saw a use for Sub-Zero, but when Sub-Zero foiled Shinnok's escape from Hell, Quan Chi then saw a use for Scorpion. Scorpion was allowed by demons to return to the world of the living to avenge his death, but Quan Chi was most likely the one who allowed that. However, Quan Chi didn't give a damn whether Scorpion's death was avenged or not. He simply wanted avenge his foiled scheme, and he used Scorpion as a pawn to do so. He likely knew ahead of time that Sub-Zero's soul was already tainted with evil, and he probably knew that the Lin Kuei assassin was a threat, too, so to ensure that he is in the Netherrealm, he made sure that Sub-Zero's soul was tainted with evil before he died. And he was pretty manipulative, too.
And here is Noob Saibot, in the Brotherhood of Shadow, pledging loyalty the same man who was the mastermind behind his death to begin with. He is also a member of the same clan he originally REFUSED to join. Oh, the irony.
Woah, that's deep. I'm impressed.

Hmmmm, a lot of what was posted here is true and some of what was said here is well, confusing...
When Sub-Zero died at the hands of Scorpion, his soul was tainted and he descended into the Netherrealm, free from compassion. I suppose this implies that he had some good in him before dying. As Noob Saibot, he no longer had the compassion and goodness he had when he was human.
I'd like to see a Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot rivalry and maybe even a Sub-Zero/Scorpion team up against Noob Saibot.
Btw, regarding the whole Sub/Scorpion thing in MK2, Scorpion learned of Sub-Zero's return and followed him to Outworld. Scorpion sees Sub-Zero spare the life of an opponent and realizes that's not the same Sub-Zero he fought and killed. Scorpion and Sub-Zero fight each other and Scorpion has the upper hand but he spares Sub-Zero and vows to protect him as restitution for killing the older Sub-Zero. I guess you could say it's part of Scorpion's code of honor.
In MK4, Quan Chi DOES deceive Scorpion into believing that Sub-Zero was responsible for killing Scorpion's family and clan.

I'm not sure what you mean.
Sareena hated the Brotherhood and after her human form was destroyed by Shinnok she was banished to the 5th Plane of the Netherealm as punishment for helping Sub-Zero. She wouldn't be involved with turning Sub-Zero into Noob Saibot.
Bloodline666- Couldn't have said it better myself.
