Ok, as weird as this already is.... I'm just wondering what type of porn it was that you were watching to lead you to believe that a couple of gay MK characters would be a good idea.

I dont really recall SF having a gay fighter, since zangief is bisexual (he has a girlfirend). About MK, well if it's done in a dark satyrical way than I can picture such depraved powers like Shao Kahn being gay, but rather bisexual. How longegr does the world deny it's historical context of homo-sexuality (I am not supportive of the stuff in real life, but it is a phenomenon we have to deal with, and it would add more merit to the characters any-way)?

MK having a gay, leasbian or bisexual character is a somewhat trivial and pointless issue. The best that info would be good for is just to add a little personality to a character.

this isnt 1990 and earlier, most gay men now~a~days are masculine, atleast in our age group. quit sterotyping.

I'm not suggesting they SHOULD make a character like that, just that if they were to create "token gay guy" that's likely how he WOULD be made. I could care less if a character in MK turned out to be gay, but I think it would be a really stupid trait to build a character around.

Well I do think this thread brings up a good point. There are over sixty characters in the history of MK, and taking away the non-humans we still have about fifty left. Surely statistically one of them should be gay, lesbian or bisexual? But I don't think the fighters' sexuality should play a large role in the game. It's a fighting game with a backstory about magic, war, martial arts, friendship and ancient rites, not sex or romance.
I also agree with Chrome though that if a character is 'evil', it is probably sexually depraved as well, and adding that dimension might help to make the games a little more mature.

Imagine something extravagant and completely eccentric like Shang tsung, surely such a man keeps a facade before his sophisticated intellect as a wall. I am pretty sure that while Quan Chi is a straightforward and brutal executioneer of plans, Shang is more subtle and adds more on pro-per style . Someone who is emotionally richer than most of the evils -pro-bably- is pretty sure to have tasted not only the pleasures of the mind.

Wow! Homophobia's quite rife on these boards.
Being gay myself, and not being biast, but I think it would add some diversity to the characters, whether they be male or female. I always had the sorta feeling Jade is a lesbian, Don't ask why, its just something i've thought about her from the day MK3 came out. It just suits her personality and it gives her that edge. But yeah, having a gay-orientated character would be awesome, i'd rather it be a current character as opposed to a new one. But yeah, I agree with some of you on the fact it shouldn't be made inot a huge issue which take over the entire story of the game, just a little personal story boost for someone. MK needs diversity and that would just be another point for it.

I agree with you. Think of that: Liu loves Kitana. Kung Lao loves Liu. Kung Lao kills Kitana. Kung Lao turns evil.
Love is one of the strongest human feelings...I'm not suggesting turning MK into a f****** Melrose Place saga, but some diversity would help improve on characters personalities and making it more fun. I think it would be a really mature and complete saga of videogames. Just a thought.

Good points and I can agree with them but lets take a look at it this way.
Given the reaction in this thread and the many closed minded persons there are wthin the world and amongst the MK fans, to find out your character was suddenly gay (and for some unknown reason homosexal males aren't accepted yet lesbians are), would that fact turn you away from that character and stop them from being your fave?
I can see many a person suddenly hating and despise Sub-Zero, Rain or Scorpion or whichever male character because they were suddenly confirmed as gay. I doubt anyone would need to assume this would be the case as it happens in reality.

In Street Fighter, Eagle was confirmed gay. In Guilty Gear, Venom was confirmed gay. Are they both femme or like to wear pink? No. Eagle is a cop who likes to beat up people. Venom is mad and crazy. Thats all i have to say.
Having a sexual orientation doesnt really matter at all. If there is a homosexual character in a game, that means they add some depth into the character's personailty.
In Mortal Kombat, Ermac can be gay since Ermac is nothing but countless souls in one body. There might be one gay person in there.
Haha, and Chrome, we had this discussion already about Shang Tsung. I doubt hes gay but there is a possibility that he absorb one soul that is gay person into his body which kinda consist hes gay (not really, im just throwing things in).

Well a not very well know fact is that a lot of Shaolin Monks were indeed bisexual, so it's very possible that Kung Lao and Liu Kang could have had some kind of attraction somewhere down the line.
Then again, this is a fighting game where characters don't even talk or taunt before the match, so we have no idea what the fighters personalities are like at all really. It wouldn't add anything to the story apart from a little bit of character development, in a series where the main objective is to cut each others hearts out.
It'd be a nifty idea, but I just don't see it happening.

I agree with what your saying. I hate stereotypes and dislike it when people stereotype also. It's plain irritating.
Shang could be a secret cross dresser. Morphing into females must have it's arousals to him and stuff. He's probably got a secret stash of high heels somewhere. Lol!

Street Fighter has gay fighters, I don't see why Mortal Kombat won't have them.

Vega is just flamboynt! and Dan pink karate outfit is a symbol of him either being a weak character or a joke character like Johnny Cage.

A gay fighter would be interesting, but I wouldn't want one of the under-appeciated characters to come out, like Reiko, Smoke, or Stryker. Maybe Johnny Cage could be a homosexual, considering he's the only character we know who is divorced? Maybe Raiden (he's a god, maybe he can change how he looks when he becomes mortal)? Heck, maybe even Kintaro (Goro has seven wives, so unless he's in the closet, I doubt he'd be homosexual)?
Shang Tsung being a homosexual would be funny, but I think if he was bisexual, it'd suit him more.

Even the straight guys are wearing pink now -a-days. I went to Club Monaco the other day, as soon as I entered everything on sale was either pink or had some pink in it. Pink is in style apparently.

Um...Quan Chi is anything but straightforward when it comes to his executioning of plans. In fact, he's quite subtle and sneaky about things.
Anyway, my views about this are more or less the same as tgrant's. I think that they would somehow make him/her very stereotypical just like how Jax was quite stereotypical in MKSF and MKDA.

This is an interesting thread. Someone had made the same suggestion about this a long time ago, and my opinion is still the same.
Its pointless.
It’s a nice touch for some sort of trivia element (like their fave movies, songs, food, etc), but other then that it makes no sense and I can only see a lot of problems coming from this.
If he gets killed people will complain (They did that only because he is gay!), or if he gets a crappy storyline/set of special moves (They did it on purpose). Gay protests among fans/no fans will be heard, as ridiculous as it sounds it can happen. Now days people complain for everything and for nothing, and accusing/suing a company because of their homophobia is just as likely as anything else.
Im not against it, but I don’t favor a gay character in the series either…its just, unnecessary, BUT it could work out VERY well in the end. Who knows?
I think it would be COOL to have a powerful gay male fighting for earth and all, he doesn’t even need to be from that realm, he could be a “good role modelâ€? for the community who supports him, and Im all for that, it would actually be a great thing to see, the team showing their support towards the gay-community (imagine a Gay being the next CHAMPION, Ima ll for that); but not everyone will be pleased, and by that Im also talking about the homosexuals who might find it offensive in many ways.

I never knew there were videogames (specially fighting games) that had gay characters....thats very new to me. Can you give me a link to some of that info on those guys Libra? I would like to know their stories, how they play, and how the fans of the series reacted towards them being gay. Are there more gay characters out there in videogames? (confirmed)
On a side note, if SF already has gay characters, people will just bash Mk for copying the other series. You know that always happens.

The only way I would start hating a character for being gay is if they were to use the homosexual part about them in a unsafisticated way. Like if they started to make Sub-Zero or Rain for that matter, as a joke, just cause they are gay.
