I could do without Scorp for a few games, but Subby is THE fighter in MK. He's the one that the non-hardcore fans look for(he's the only one they know), he's a fave even among the hardcore, and his presence guarantees sales. MK needs Sub-Zero, and there will probably never be a game without him.

In terms of stale and boring storyline, Jonny Cage wins out, hands down. Followed by Jax and Sonya, whose 'Get Kano and the Black Dragon!' needs to be ditched immediatly. They even created a new black dragon character for MKD, yet they continually mention throughout the past games the Black Dragon is no more, and all members are dead. Please. Those three characters should either never return, or bow out for a game or two while something new and fresh is worked out for them.
Regarding Sub Zero, his changes have been slower moving than most other characters, but he's definatly improved along the way. Even with that in mind, there is a level of overration that exists with him, I feel.
Scorpion, while a great character and great player, is in dire need of new story. I've often found myself wishing that the next time he does something heroic to save the Earthrealm as he has done at some point in the past (at least I think...), Rayden, or the Elder Gods or something would elevate him to the status of Earth's new Fire God. It would certainly fit I think, plus it gives new story and new moves potential (firestorm, anyone?). His look wouldn't need a huge amount of changing, and I see no reason why he'd loose his spear attack (let's face it, they'd be stupid to remove that anyway). It would get rid of the endless dying and ressurrection saga he has now, and as a protector of Earth, revenge (which he isn't likly to ever get anyway) would be a far lower priority to him.

Boon has already stated that, from now on, no MK game will ever be without Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Scorpion is Boon's favorite character. Most people want Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the game. They will always be in, so whether or not their absence would hurt sales doesn't matter.

The least he could do is refresh Scorp's story. By the time we get around to MK 10, everyone will be sick of his story, I'm surprised there are some who are still not bored by it.

I have always been a Scorpion fan. And I understand about how stale it is with his storyline. But to be honest, if they did not have Scorpion or Sub-Zero I would not buy the game I would rent it out.
If you want to get rid of the old characters like Scorpion then you get rid of everyone in MK2 such as Kitana, Jax, Cage if you want more characters.
I think they need keep these characters in because it would not be a Mortal Kombat Game without them.

As someone just said a few posts up. They would not buy or even rent if scorpion was not in. The game would not sale better if one of the games icons were left out. MK's story may not revolve around scorpion but the truth is what brought a majority of MK fans were Fatalities, Sub-zero, and Scorpion. Were you around when MKDA first came out and all over the internet, stores, ect people didn't buy MKDA because it had one fatality per character? Or do you realise there are such people known as casual gamers that buy not by intelect but by what they think is cool? Ask everyones first memory of MK and it's that ninja that spears, yells get over hear, sub's freeze, shadow kick, or fatality. Just the knowledge that Scorpion is gone would affect game sales. Since the game is sure to be rated 18+ a good chance the younger(16 and below) crowd is gonna be the ones who are not quite as mature to handle no scorpion or not caring. Just cause the few here say they could care less doesn't really mean anything. There's quite a bit more who do care.

I personally think Scorpions story has stayed pretty good. He's completed half of his goal(avenge his death), now he's trying to finsh the other half(avenge family and clan.)
I agree with whoever said Cages, all the special forces, all the black dragon, were done to death. Liu always had a reason to fight since he was the MK champion. I've said this before but I think if the special forces were left to SF:Sonya and Jax and the black dragon gone with kano on his own like he was in MKDA I'd say it was good. Let Cyrax be his own character and not just another agent. When Kenshi joined the Special Forces I'm sured alot of people thought that kinda dropped his coolness a little(still a badass character).
My point wasn't really about their storyline being boring or good in a game but more about what the fans want. I like that Boon does that. He hears but my main problem with this topic is the title. Nothing wrong with the topic don't get me wrong. But the topic is biased.

I know queve didn't focus on the words I bolded but he made it quite clear he wants these character out of future games and is not being fair and just about it capitalizing specific words. It's a sort of poisoning the well since the fair and just remark implies the rest of the sentence is a consensus of the fans. Queve, you're a buddy of mine but this topic seemed more of a nice way of writing "I don't like Scorpion and Sub-zero, don't want them, who will back me up?"
I understand a character chat wouldn't be as effective but maybe a "who's overrated and who should sit out a game" would be fair and just. How fair and just is targeting two specific characters and no one else?

But if Boon, Suprisingly, decides to let Scorpion go, then Im guessing that he will step out when his hellspawn body rest in peace by Killing Quan Chi, but I think that Quan should stay longer than Scorpion! So, If Quan Chi goes, Scorpion goes, Cuz Scorpions only Enemy is Quan, so he would serve no Purpose in MK!!!!
Now to Sub-Zero, This Is kind of Hard to Say, I mean, In My person al Opinion, Besides Kabal and Sonya is one of the GREATEST Fighters of all time! I mean come one, He is in a Fued with that traitourous Sektor, with the Red Dragon, and a Friendship with Smoke, so he has a lot of things going for him!!! That meaning that I think that subby will stay for a long time!!!
But, of Course, The Greater number of Enemies, the Greater chance of getting Killed! So there is a chance og Sub getting killed Soon, but dont get to excited , cuz Boon Loves both these Characters!!!!!!

I only see the story every time I beat the game. I doubt see it through out the game or when I play my friends.
So the story isn't that big of a deal.
Oh and Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the mascots for MK. It's just like SF always having Ryu and Ken.

Hey redsoul, don’t worry bro , I understand what you say, even though I disagree with the way you elaborated your theory of the reason of this thread.
It is so unnecessary to make one thread that says that I don’t want these characters in another game (not all mk games, just 1, 2 or 3, even though I wouldn’t care if they were gone forever) or how I “dislike them” because I have already done billions of posts about it. So, no, it’s not a nice way to say another thing.
Also, it is fair to focus only in these 2 characters and not everyone since that’s what this thread was about. To discuss and hear opinions about them being overrated and all. Them, not the others, just them since they are the icons of mk, the awesome ones. Awesome, but overrated.

In regards to the subject at hand, plenty of people have already provided excellent reasons for why Scorpion and Sub-Zero should stick around so I don't need to elaborate, but being that both are personal favorites, I am inclined to say that Mortal Kombat simply isn't Mortal Kombat without those two classic characters.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that they are each worth any five characters that were introduced in MK4 and MKDA. If not more.
In a nutshell, they both need to stick around.
