Queve is fully aware of scorpions and subzeros fan base, but IMO i think its getting to his head. The image of him having some sort of thing against scorpion is clear in my head now.

Everyone is independable, but scorpion and subzero IS Mortal Kombat. There the biggest part of MK, they've been with MK since day 1. I hardly doubt they would be taking a seat out of a game, dont forget what happened in MK3. Scorpion is boons favourite, and subzeros story is more important than ever, do you think they'll ever be sitting out a game now? I dont. Scorpion and Subby will continue to be in MK for a very long time. He should understand how that they arent overrated, its not only the fan base, its the role play, originallity, and the fact that they've always been with us. Its only opinion to think there overrated.

There was alot of talk about them at first, But then our hunger was satisfied for a little while with the release of their pictures. And of course there are people talking about Kitana. Just because people like me are die-hard Scorpion & Sub-Zero fans, Doesn't mean that we don't like other characters and hoping that our other favorites make it in. Like Ermac, Kabal and Smoke. These boards were buzzing about them and everyone was wanting them and talking about them. Then they confirmed them AND gave us pictures, Now people are satisfied and are going after other favorites. Well, People are still talking about Smoke somewhat, But only because we haven't seen him yet. But i promise there will be very little talk about him once we see him. And if Kitana was confirmed tomarrow, People would stop talking about her too.
Then you were talking about abilities. I personally didn't care for Shang Tsung's morph and i thought it was a novelty act anyway. It was too bothersome to use his morph, And yet people were angry about him not having it for a little while. The same with Scorpion's Teleport Punch and Sub-Zero's Ice Clone. But everyone got used to it. People still liked Sonya and she had NONE of her original moves (i missed the sonic rings, as i call them).
It wouldn't kill me for them to sit out a game... But it would put me in a state of severe depression and fear.
But really, I don't get this talk about "Story". It has always been about gameplay! Story-wise none of the classic characters have to return, But they do because of gameplay. Like i said, They could replace all of the characters with Gunther, Ernest and Debra-Jo and make the story about them... damn that was the best 30 minutes i spent all day. reading all these post. queve, the reason why Sub and scorp keep returning is very simple. Marketing. Sub and scorp are the most famous faces of MK and the MK world. before the release of MK:DA the popularity of MK was on a very steep fall. before MK:DA was released and MK was mentioned the very first names that people associated it with were Sub and Scorp. to take out Sub and scorp right now would be sucidie(parodn the spelling). with the new release of MK:D i beleive that the popularity of MK will be at an all time high and will bring new faces and many young people who are not as well versed in the world of MK.
so say that sub and scorp were left out of MK:D. some 13-14 year old kid's mom buys him one and all he really remembers of teh mk world os sub and scorp. he plays the game and they arent in it. no matter how good teh game was. to him and many other people in that age range will be disappointed because the 2 most familiar faces of the whole franchise were missing.
same goes for us older kats. we buy the newest MK. the MK team decided to leave out sub and scorp, were gonna be disappointed for the mere fact that no matter what they say we wont here "Get over here", or see sub freeze some fool.

BTW, I also hate when all scorpion fans start to complain about other characters when they try to go blind at the fact his story is just as stale and boring.
Mk simply does not evolve around them, but there is something I dont agree:
The classics are important, they are essential to the games. Just think of an Mk game with no Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3 characters!! Now that would so not be and feel like Mk.
IMO, the Mk1 classics are the main characters and should live till the end, but it wont hurt scorpion to sit one out. He needs improvement, and serious improvement I mean.

I think that to get rid of Scorpion and/or Sub-Zero would be a disservice to the fans and the franchise, since both of these characters were "starting" characters and both are founding fathers of the series as a whole. While I do think the series could go on without them, it just wouldn't "feel" like an MK game. As blasmphemous as it sounds, it would be like a Pokemon game without Pikachu or a Dead or Alive game without bouncing breasts. They're trademark characters with trademark appeal, and they've risen to their almost cult status in the MK community because, as old and classic as they are, they're constantly evolving yet retaining the same appeal and originality that they had when they first appeared almost 10 years ago. Fatality.

Yeah. I agree completely. They are really cool and most of the time the outfifts look amazing but they've become a marketing strategy rather than characters. Also, take out the spear and the freeze ray and they will lose their essence. They got a lot of fans because of their gimmicks in MK1 and their fanbase kept growing.
Now, Scorpion shouldn't sit out another game. He was gone in MK3 (that was the only MK3 version I bought) and that's enough IMO.
BUT Sub-Zero REALLY has to get out of the next game (MK7)!!! He is the only character out of the original six that has never missed a MK game! It's not fair! He even got his own goddamn game!!! Enough of that guy!! He is completely welcomed AFTER he sits out of a single game. It's all I'm asking for... justice!! LOL
I think a good plot for Scorpion would be to kill Quan chi for good, and then the Elder Gods reward him for getting rid of such evil and give him a chance to:
a) Live again as a mortal.
b) Join his soul with his family's souls as long as he becomes an Earth's protector and fight on the side of good everytime evil arises. It would give him a happy ending and a perfect excuse to come back every game.

scorpion overrated? give me a break. hes top of the line in every mk game hes ever been in. as is sub-zero.
they are mortal kombat's flagship characters. to have a game with out either of them would prove to be a poor selling game (mk3 anyone?)do your homework..umk3 outsold mk3 for the simple fact umk3 had a shitload of ninjas...especially the dominate two.
fact is, the characters arent just great to use..and extremly popular..but they are the foundation that holds mk together. no matter what your fav character is, every mk fan knows that.
mk has tried to survive both with and without those two, and look what happened. if you ask me, its characters like cage, sonya, jax, and a few others that need to go and stay gone. they dont, and never will fit in. dont get me worng..i love em..they are great characters, but havent done a damn thing for the mk series its self..you cant move forward without leaving somthing behind. those characters can be replaced. scorpion and sub-zero however cant be replaced.
i cant even imagine playing a mk game without having scorpion or sub-zero in it.
overrated? hardly. they are great characters that just happen to be very popular. blame it on boys and their obsession with ninjas..(yes its true..all guys know ninjas kiss huge ass)..or blame it on the fact that game after game those two characters mop the floor with all others.
if scorpion and sub-zero wouldnt return...do you realize how big of a backlash that would be?..how many angry letters boon and co would get? how many "bring scorpion back".."bring back sub-zero".."this game sucks without scorp" threads you would see across the mk community?

well no scorpion and sub arent overratedif they took away kitana or sonya few are gonna notice it, do you know why arent too many thread bout scorpion that the ones of kitana (yes you probably do but im gonna tell you anyway) its cuz he is in the game and as the boon favorite he is gonna give him the best he can, so there isnt too much bout to worry.
also the reason for scorpion being like 1000000 times better than sonya or kitana is cuz he is one of the easiest to use and the fovorite of the non hardcore gamers of mk. do a try invite a friend that you know that isnt a big fan of mk to play and see wich one he is gonna choose. its almost sure that he'll use scorion and sub zero.
so scorp and sub are the favorites. also if they are out of the game everyone will miss them just look mk3 sonya wasnt enought so they added the ninjas

This thread is funny, we finally really have both sides conceding to one another.
One sides says Scorpion and Sub-Zero need to be reworked. The others agree.
The other side says the other characters are just a bland. Everyone else agrees.
So I'm thinking, why don't we just make as Mortal Kombat with funky little chickens and animals instead?

These guys are what Ryu and Ken are to streetfighter, you take them out it won't be the same. Sub Zero is the only character which had a game after him that did't suck. I thought it was awesome and still play it when I'm bored, it is hugelly underated. When you get used to the gameplay its awesome. And Scorpion, are they going to take him out I mean a ninja spectre from hell who could think of that. The thing about Mk is the chacters have been so cool and will continue to be they've had their share of misses but most of them dominate. Compared to other games and genres the characters are just plain interesting.

Although the game wouldn't be the same without these two, they are overrated. I would also like to see Scorpion get a new God damn story. His whole revenge thing is REALLY pissing me off.
Sub Zero has a good story going right now, with him trying to reform the Lin Kuei. I have always liked Sub Zero's story though.
All in all though, these guys are overrated. I just have to worry about Scorpion ever dying, since he is already dead and all. But Sub Zero, you have to get old eventually. But i'm sure they will find a way to keep Sub Zero in forever.

they are mortal kombat's flagship characters. to have a game with out either of them would prove to be a poor selling game (mk3 anyone?)do your homework..umk3 outsold mk3 for the simple fact umk3 had a shitload of ninjas...especially the dominate two.

Well said Scorpio. You pretty much summed up my feelings as well. I only wish that some of the other characters recieved at least a fraction of the attention that these bad boys have gotten.
But ah well, such is fame.

What makes him a good character is what make others better characters.
I notice how all fans complain about stale stories and predictable endings, same special moves, no improvement in looks or originality ....well, Scorpion is there, like it or not.
BTW, he has only been a deadly character game-play wise in Mkda (top tier) and in Mkt (mid tier). Other then that, he sucked.
