But if it's between going under and being taken over by EA, wouldn't Midway be better off under EA? They do make some quality games afterall.

I can imagine a lot of MK fans enjoying an EA made Mortal Kombat.

Heck, if MK was to belong to any other company, I honestly can't think of a company I'd trust with it more than EA.

I'd probably trust any random Japanese company with the MK lisence. Only question is, would they touch it?

And for anyone saying MK wouldn't be MK if it isn't made by Midway. As long as it got blood and Fatalities you'd buy it anyway.

Actually, I'd trust a NON-Japanese company more. I don't want MK to turn into an anime.

Agreed, that and Japanese companies definition of a story, and my definition of a story are two horribly different things.

Rather an anime than a bad american cartoon. Developers are professionals. Just because in their homeland anime and manga are a big influence, that doesn't mean they'd cram every game into that category. Just look at some other games done by Japanese companies. Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Residen Evil, Yakuza. And they can do bloody, especially in the games I already mentioned. Or look at Ninja Gaiden, there like hundreds of Ninjas that get sliced in it with all kinds of different weapons.

If a Japanese developer would get their hands on the Mk license, I'd trust them to respect the source material a lot.

None of the games you mentioned are fighting franchises.
However, every single Japanese fighting game that I've ever seen has a large anime influence. Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, and even Tekken, although with a slightly more realistic approach, still uses major Anime conventions.

My point was just that they can do games that aren't all anime like. And if they'd get their hands on a franchise that made it's reputation as a gritty, gloomy and brutal fighting game, they wouldn't pull a 180 and give us shiney backgrounds and put Hello Kitty in there as a hidden character.

Besides, the franchise got a pretty cartoonic look with MKDA-MKA anyway. I don't see how being a little anime like would be so shocking. Anway, point is, I trust professional companies to respect the source material.

Well, to be honest with you, I have more respect for North American cartoons than I do for Anime. So if MK is a bit cartoonish now, at least it's in that 1992 Spiderman cartoon sort of way, not in the Dragonball Z sort of way. (Not that I didn't like Dragonabll Z)

And I'm not saying that a Japanese company would necessarily turn MK into an anime, I'm just saying there's a higher chance of it, and I personally wouldn't trust them.

I mean, companies like Namco might absorb MK into their other franchises, which would mean the MK characters woul have to blend in with Tekken or Soul Calibur, which would mean a visual conversion.

They certainly seem more than qualified to ensure the same clunky, homogenized standard of gameplay that can be associated with MK. I'm sure, after gauging opinions of the fanbase, they could handle colour swaps and minor iterations on shared character designs, as well.

Just think! If a Namco got hold of them, they might all start to fight and dress with some sort of conceptual grounding and logic. *phew* Crisis averted!

Hey if Midway did sell the rights off to any company.I rather it go to Microsoft and hear me out for a moment.

At least at this point it would be with a company that really doesnt have to rely to much on money and if there were to ever be another cross over game we probably have a better chance for MKvsKI.Granted the down side to this would be that MK would probably only be on Microsofts system and PC.If I had to think where else it could go I would go with Capcom or Tecmo. And they wouldn't be to bad either cause they don't like to change the way their old games play so I think they would keep it fine and with Tecmo or Capcom we probably have a good chance at the game looking a lot better then what it has in the past.

I do think its crazy about the entire situation.

except for the sucking Def Jam icon thing EA neverg gets inot the fighting genre,so yeah 'id pick the EA choice for MK.
however considering how well TNA impact already sells(and the game is out just for a week) and how many good games are still in production(the wheelman and this is vegas) i can assure you that Midway will not fail even tough MK vs DCU will turn out to be a flop.
so take it easy...

I don't see why people don't like Def Jam Icon. I mean, it wasn't AS good as Fight For New York, but it was still decent. It had good graphics, storyline, and similar physics. They just changed the gameplay around a little bit, eliminating spectators and weapons. But I honestly don't think that's enough to turn it from awesome to "sucky".

I wouldn't mind Microsoft picking up the rights for Mortal Kombat. They have a good talent pool of developers. Admittedly they are closing a few down...

The trouble with EA getting a hold of MK they dont have any studio's that can make a good fighting game. They closed the one who did do the Def Jam fighters. And I think they got rid of the guys who did the Fight Night series as well. They recently released FaceBreaker a cartoony boxing game. And it was shit.

Anyway. Things will probably work out ok. I suspect Ed Boon could afford to buy the rights to MK if things got desperate.

Well, the problem with Microsoft picking it up is that it completely isolates Sony or Nintendo owners. That's hardly fair.
Hey, maybe Sony should buy out Midway!

Mortal Kombat with Def Jam mechanics? That could be interesting.

Hey, what if Square-Enix took over?

That would be extra cool!

Okay, how about...

Namco? From looking at the MK characters in Soul Calibur IV, it just might be kinda cool.

Someone should make a "What company (if any) would you want to take over MK if Midway collapses" thread. Unless it exists already.

The only problem I have with EA fighting games is the only one I've ever touched. Something: Rise of the Imperfects.

If Namco,EA,Capcom, ect. picked up MK, it just wouldn't be the same. Granted they may do a game with better graphics, or longer gameplay.....but I'd rather see Midway show us that. MK has always been perfectly flawed, that's what attracts me to it. Midway let's Boon do almost anything. Could you really see EA or Namco creating brutal fatalities.......doubt it. I really don't wanna see them drawn like Japanese anime either. I was kinda disappointed with the Batman Gotham Knight movie because of that.

Capcom, is the only one I wouldn't mind seeing make MK. Start out with an MK vs Capcom game. Then mature into something just MK. I'd like to see Leon from RE4 and Rick from Splatterhouse fighting my favorites of MK. That would be cool...and brutal.

If the guys at Midway need money, maybe they can focus on a reimagined MK movie. I was really disappointed with Annihilation. Shao Kahn wore the helmet for like 2 scenes....dumb? The movie was just bad altogether. Who could forget about Raiden's haircut at the end of Annihilation. That was just one of the dumbest things about the movie.

Konami could use a good fighting franchise, I can't think of one that they own. Konami is the only Japanese company I'd trust with MK.
Capcom's disappointed me way too many times, Resident Evil 4 being a major one, so to see Leon in a _ vs. Capcom game would make me stay the hell away from it.
