Activision-Blizzard would make MK into an MMO. Then my life would be ruined.

A part of my soul would die if that happened.

I would much prefer MK to be based on weapons AND empty hand fighting, the way it's been since MK2. Also, if they threw in a WWF No Mercy/Def Jam:Fight for NY format with all kinds of game modes that all run off the same engine I wouldn't complain at all.
MK Forever

Naw... MK's fighting system could use some work, but if anything, I'd rather they got RID of weapons. Mortal Kombat, to me, has always been about hand to hand martial arts. Punches and kicks.

C'mon, MORTAL kombat. That means, to the death. It's a lot quicker when you have something to sever heads with
I can see where you're coming from, but if I was making the game, I would make sure that all hand-to-hand and weapon styles worked equally well and that you could just as easily have no-weapon matches if you wished. And a chicken in every pot. Vote for me.

Well, that's the problem. In the ideal world, everyone would have the ability to CHOOSE the kind of gameplay they want. Unfortunately, publishers, those vampires, give deadlines.

Well, GOOD publishers recognize what a developer needs. And if Midway does indeed go the way of the dinosaur, MK may just get that.

Well, the developers get paid by salary. So if they were to extend the deadline, the MK team would have to keep getting paid for it, and if Midway can't afford it, then what choice do they have?

MK is dead people. Even with the release of this game.
Lets hope if there is another game, they get more serious and take it more seriously in the future.

Well, I guess Midway just doesn't have the cash to play with the big dogs. Which is why the MK franchise needs to be handed over to a publisher who will be able to do more to ensure a bright future for it.

But then, I don't want MK to become another formulaic game which has no thought behind it. As much as I didn't like a few storyline choices in Mortal Kombat, the only reason I complain about them is because I care. If I cared half as much about Tekken's storyline, I'd probably complain even more about it than MK.
EA I could see. So far, I've enjoyed the storylines in Def Jam games, and I have no reference of any other fighting franchise on EA. But I could see EA doing right by MK.

As long as they get AKI on the job. For those that don't know, they're the guys that put the OOMPH in Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy, and the first 2 Def Jam games. Those guys are real artists.

If Boon was to stay in charge of MK... I wonder how much he'd accomplish with a new team. I mean, imagine a bunch of skilled programmers and graphic artists... Working for Boon on the next MK game.

Pretty much.
If by some chance Midway goes under, I don't see that many game corporations clamoring for the MK license.
But I suppose there always remains a thread of hope.

MK gets a lot of criticism, but it still ends up becoming a Greatest/Platinum Hit. So I'm pretty sure that it's still a well sought after franchise.

But the odds of Sega, Capcom, or EA wanting the license are extremely low.
...not that I'd want them to get it or anything like that.
Edit: But then again, EA's monstrous hunger is Unquenchable.

I don't think Sega is a big enough entity to buy something like MK. And yes, I don't want Capcom to own MK.
But I don't see why someone like EA or another big North American company wouldn't want to buy MK.
I mean, afterall, Mortal Kombat has been a successful franchise for many years. Imagine if news came about that EA bought Mortal Kombat. I think if nothing else, it would get tons of buzz, just from the curiosity about what the new company would do with the next title.

Oh man...EA buying MK. That would be crazy as all hell. The MK team would have to retain all control over the series for me to be down with that.

About Me

Well, nobody knows MK better than Boon, so I don't see why they wouldn't rehire the team... The problem is, EA Chicago went under. So they'd either have to re-establish it, or the MK team would ALL have to relocate.
It's always been a personal dream of mine to see how would Mortal Kombat fare if it was given to Japanese developers. Capcom,Sega,Aksys,SNK (fuck yes!) - as long as it's not those hacks from Namco,I'm alright. What would they do with it? Would they keep it ultra-violent? Would they bring the game back into 2D with huge, gorgeously animated sprites? Would they speed it up? Would they put time and effort into voices, signature poses,post-battle quotes and other things that make Japanese fighting game characters so alive and vibrant? Think of the possibilities.

Oh god, this would be the game to finally break my complete MMO abstinence. It would also completely demolish my chances of ever graduating from college. Such powerful forces must never be trifled with.
