Well, if you do a comparison, the very first Onimusha game plays like a Feudal Japan, Action-Horror movie. The latest Onimusha, Dawn of Dreams is like a bad Anime.

And personally, my favorite franchise, period, used to be Resident Evil, yet with their newer games, it seems they've simply stopped taking the storyline and the design elements seriously. It went from Dawn of the Dead, to Dawn of the Rings, with its ogre-like monsters, and lava pits. For me, and many of my friends who were also hardcore Resident Evil fans, Resident Evil has been ruined. No zombies, no T-Virus, no Umbrella = No Resident Evil. But I really don't have the strength of arguing this point anymore, so let's just leave it at that. If you like RE4, that's fine by me.

And although I personally was never a fan, I have spoken to MANY Mega-Man fans, and each one of them said that the franchise has been ruined.

Oh god, Megaman is beat now. Onimusha turned lame. But I will not give you Resident Evil my good sir. I have wet dreams about RE4.

If it's not made by Midway Games, it's not Mortal Kombat. I couldn't imagine anybody else making it. I'd rather them not be made anymore if it came down to it. Midway will be fine. Hopefullyconfused

Well, what if it's Ed Boon in charge of it, working for another company?

It's certainly difficult to imagine any other studio approaching the series with the same design and concept ethic... Yessir...

It would be really cool if Mortal Kombat became public domain. That way, imagine if every company made an MK game... Then chances are, each MK fan that likes one or another certain aspect of MK would probably find it in ONE of the titles.

Acclaim went out of business a few years ago. They released all of Midway's games at their height.

Well, Midway is part of Viacom. Viacom is a giant monster like Sony or Microsoft. This is why Midway wasn't not only buyed for another big company, but also survived.

And right now, it's EA > Ubisoft > Other occidental companies > Activision-Blizzard.

No one japanese/asian company will buy Midway, no one buy gaijin material...

They were in charge of porting the first 2 MK games from Arcade to Home Versions.
It's not as if they actually made the games.

It's a lot of fun imagining Tecmo or Namco picking up the MK characters, though, and incorporating them into franchises like DOA, Ninja Gaiden, or Tekken. Implausible, but fun!

Why are you always trying to be insincere? Its wearing off pretty quickly. In fact, its time is way past.

I imagine either EA or Activision-Blizzard would probably be the ones to pick it up because those two companies are the giants right now

but

I can seriously see SEGA purchasing the license, and using MK as a weapon based fighting game, based of the Virtua Fighter system, Sort of like SEGA's Soul Calibur.

but I doubt it would happen, I imagine selling the MK license would be the absolute last resort for Midway
That's assuming if anyone would pick it up. As i understand it Capcom, Namco, etc. don't take MK seriously. Still, lets hope it doesn't come to that anyway.

Nothing in the quoted post is insincere. It's highly unlikely a Japanese company would care to buyout an American property, but MK characters could probably slide into one of those rival franchises with very interesting and suitable results.

But it'd be great if the games would become more action oriented. I always wanted the games to be more like the Movies. Having free moment and not always be locked-on onto your opponent, so you can use the environment. Like running along or flipping of a wall like Sub-Zero in the first MK. Maybe swing around a pole and kick your opponent into the face. Or like in Def Jam, slam your opponent into objects.

That kind of fighting mode on Scorpions lair from the movie... Now that would be sick! grin And EA must never buy the franchise. Oh the horrors they'd do to it...

For the love of god, Namco needs to get its hands on MK just once.
I'd die of happiness if I could see an MK game produced in their style.

I'd cry of sadness. Tekken is Tekken. If you turned Tekken into MK, you'd make Tekken worse. Just the same, if you turned MK into Tekken, you'd make MK worse.
Mortal Kombat might not have the best graphics or gameplay elements, but it has its own style, its own vibe. And since Namco already has 2 successful Fighting franchises, no doubt they'd just convert MK to their style. And that's just not MK.

Seriously! Divvy the cast up between Soul and Tekken based on suitability, and melt in awe of the MK! It could be very exciting! Kenshi mixing it up in Soul Calibur! Scorpion fighting the Devil-gene in Tekken! Great!

Tekken's probably more receptive to MK than it's ever been, and might even help with the commital to a more fantastic direction. Not that the MK characters aren't malleable enough to accomodate existing asthetics in both brands.

Then again, there's always Tecmo, where Ninja Gaiden is practically ready-made for an invasion and a playable Scorpion, if you don't want to cram everyone into DOA.

I kinda imagine the 3D MK series as a sort of Tekken Vs Soul Calibur with DOA stages. So yeah...

And no game series deserves to be swallowed up in EA's Katamari. Mind you it would be funny to see the remaining MK fans who didn't commit Hari Kiri after the MK Vs DCU announcement, just do it because MK was owned by EA.

It'll be interesting to see if Midway can turn it around.

You're talking like Katamari is EA's only title.
I think Def Jam alone shows that they could make good fighting games, especially fighting games with good storylines.

Oh, my bad. I don't play Katamari.

But if it's between going under and being taken over by EA, wouldn't Midway be better off under EA? They do make some quality games afterall.

Play Def Jam Icon, Marvel Nemesis and WCW games then come back and tell me how you feel about EA taking over development duties for MK.
