Th story got modified over the years to make it darker. Batman was simply a dude that loved toys and had fascinations with bats and was always in Gotham. But like I said, over the years that got modified to make it seem darker.

Unlike MK, which has its base story rooted far beyond earth.

Actually, I think Batman started out dark. He did use guns at the beginning and killed enemies from time to time. Then he got all kiddyfied and now we're back to making him dark again. Though he still doesn't kill anymore.

Batman's not dark? Batman was some kid who liked playing with toys and bats?

When he was 10 years old his parents were shot to death right in front of him. As he grew, becoming an expert martial artist, he became Batman, who used the gun that killed his parents to kill other criminals. Don't tell me this has been modified over time, because that's just what he was like in Detective Comics #27 and onward, until around the mid-1950's and 60's, where he was kiddified. If you actually picked up a comic book off the shelf today, you'd see a Batman who's been driven to near insanity by all the trauma he's endured over his days. In many respects, Batman at it's core is darker than anything any Mortal Kombat game has had to offer. Just because there isn't blood and guts all over the place doesn't mean it's not dark in tone.

I suggest "The Killing Joke" where The Joker shoots a woman in the back, is implied to have raped her and taken photographs of her naked battered body, and tried to drive her father insane by projecting the photographs in front of him.
