I think it will go to Street Fighter IV... especially now with the announcement of Gouken, that game is a definite must buy.

Its a contender for sure, I was highly disappointed with SC4's online, character creator, story mode and the fact that there's no tag mode even though the functionality is there. SF4 doesn't hit consoles till next year so MK VS DCU has a good shot.

Dude unless Mr. Ed and the Midway team get off their lazy asses and actually put time and effort into the game i dont think any MK game would win BFGOTY.

Yeah, SF4 comes out in 2009. So I think this game has a decent shot.

But I'm not one who listens to critics.

MK vs DC probably won't win. If they put some really cool things in it like Dark Knight Costumes for Batman and Joker and other dlc, they might have a shot. The fanbase would eat it up....like me With know Dark Knight game to please fans, this may sell better than expected.
The sales may get MK vs DC the win.

The game looks fun to play for sure. SC overall didn't impress the critics. They liked it, but more or less were not willing to say that it's the standard by which all other fighting games are judged. Everyone who's played this game is acting like this is MK's second coming, so i'm sure it's got a good shot of winning.....plus

MKvsDC has as much chances of winning best fighting game of the year, as I have the chance of being the next President of the united states.

Breaking News! Nathan just beat Obama and McCain in the presidential election! Who is this guy? We don't know! Where did he come from? Who knows! How the hell did he win the election? No idea!

Seriously though... you guys are right Street Fighter IV is '09 -- so now MK vs DC has a much better chance of winning... at least in my book.

Soul Calibur was great... but other than the graphics, sound, and music the gameplay was similar (which isn't much of a bad thing) and the story was pretty stupid for each character.

DBZ? Not a chance... Naruto? Not a chance... Unless of course Super Smash Brawl is part of the competition... then, as much as I'd hate to say, that would have a much better chance of winning.

I think you're probably right because the people who distribute said awards all have no idea of what makes a good fighting game.

Only contenders i see that truly fit the category is Soul Calibur 4 and MK vs DC. MKvsDC judging from vids dont look like it is gonna match up to the quality of the likes of SC4 or DOA4 or VF5. so i believe Soul Calibur 4 probably will, and if not probably should because for this year... it is the best.

really i am a MK fanboy, but im not ignorant, naive, or just down right bias when it comes to comparing fighting games. if i dont know too much about a certain fighter then ill probably not talk about it much, but for the most part i play just about every big time fighting game. (i mean REAL fighting games. yeah i like FNR3, but that is a BOXING game, its different. and SSB is a party fighter.) .........

anyways MK vs DC has looked to possibly be the best MK ever gameplay wise, but when you compare the fighting engine and mechanics of SC4 and MKvsDC... from every thing we know of MKvsDC..... SC4 is the clear winner... and really ONLY real flaw in SC4 is too many small arena's which ppl will abuse Ring Outs to cheaply win. and i say cheaply cuz they wouldnt be able to win if it wasnt for that... (mainly those kind of players use a specific handful of chars so if ya spot that type of player at least there are 2 arena's with no RO. but still that is weak.) honestly though if you're playing against another honest player, the whole Ring Outs issue isnt as much of an issue, but still annoying that you gotta worry about it so much when fighting at the smaller arena's which there are a bit of in the game. overall though the game is pretty damn well balanced and the series continues on having the great fighting mechanics and engine it has always had.

MKvsDC now.... well Free Fall Kombat unless toned down or changed in some way, it looks like it could be a big flaw in the game and looks way overpowered. see how it works is that you can punch or kick while on the way down if on top and that makes a special meter go up. half way up you can finish the sequence with a special move, or continue smacking them to fill the meter more. more the meter is filled more damage is ultimately dealt at the bottom of the fall. first off takes off about 3/4ths health if meter is all the way up from a vid i seen. though where the real issue i think is is that the character on the bottom can do nothing till person on top meter is full, then counter them once and then just do nothing and land on them dealing out all the damage to them and not receiving any even after being hit like 6 times in mid air before the counter... Free Fall Kombat = flawed imo.

Klose Kombat im just not sure if i like the idea, but then again it maybe not bad? i dunno i think it is just some thing im not gonna be sure about till i try it.

anyways MKvs.DC still looks to be some what stiff like MKDA-MKA. its hard to judge, but let me just say if it is stiff like MKDA-MKA then that will be a big negative for sure.

um..... wake up game.... for player on ground looks like have just same wakeup game as MKA which i think looks stiff and actually just looks horrible imo. and i dont think it was that great really... but at least it looks like the player still standing will be able to deal more damage while opponent is still on ground which is some thing important... that lil thing not being able to hurt a downed opponent, but they can attack while getting up in Armageddon was horrible.

control scheme... the whole thing using one thing to duck and jump and another to side step... basically knowing this control scheme tells that the engine clearly does not have full 8-way control or let alone say 8-way run...

speaking of run... thats another thing come to think of it MISSING! there doesnt need to be a "Run Button", and really just being able to RUN can fasten the pace of the game for the better. has there been ANY evidence to characters being able to run in this game????

k some thing else... the grab system... well "Klose Kombat" they have described as kind of a interactive grab.... thats what it kinda is but more you actually doing striking moves just way more up close.... from what i understand characters will have a real grab or throw move as well.... but lets take a look at the grab mechanics of DOA4 and SC4... DOA4 has a rather kinda deep grab mechanic id say... some characters just got real basic type of grab moves, but then there are the characters with more advanced grab move that will have like 2-3 parts to doing the whole thing... but then there is the few characters that are more highly advanced just having like a lot more grab moves and also having like best counter moves that are like grab moves. (not sure if that best way to decribe what im trying to talk about, but yeah...)... kool thing though is that the defending player can escape throws like the throw combo's that have 2-3 parts by doing the same thing the offensive playing would have to input..... anyways with SC4 mostly characters just are able to grab a standing opponent no matter what way they facing, but they also got like ground grabs (grab opponent while they are down) and air grabs ect, but these are more character specific kind of grabs. (maybe say some thing like Jax with his air grab in the old games it just a special kind of grab i guess is a way to put it.)

ok to my point about this with MKvsDC.... i think MKvsDC the whole Klose Kombat thing could turn out to be sort of a good substitute for having some thing like DOA4's grab mechanics. i mean in the end they dont really look similar, but in the end they have the same function pretty much. what im talking about is the ability to counter out of the Klose Kombat... but here is where it is really different as well and may possibly be reason for me not using much or not liking that much... it is just a guessing game pretty much when trying to counter. and as for the regular throws... assuming they still have actual throws of their own.... only seen a couple, but they dont really look impressive... and really they just havent shown that their grab/throw mechanic is at least as diverse as the likes of SC4's basic throw/grab mechanics.

basically what i expect from the gameplay when this game is released... from what ive seen... it looks basically like playing a 2D fighter with 3D graphics, but with just 2D mechanics except being able to side step. though control scheme... seems lil weird...

seriously ppl i dont think this game is gonna do any thing better or as good as its comp. sadly i believe thats the truth. im still a loyal fan though... i feel like im part reason why MK is even around still... i mean ive supported no matter what, but wow.... every thing gets old after a while....

It'll be fun. Broken, broken fun. Thats all. With the best story mode ever to grace a fighting game. Which is so sad, I might cry.

With the exception of story mode Soul Calibur IV will probably be better than this and it depends on whether you consider Street Fighter IV's arcade release a valid entry in this award ceremony for the Best Fighting Game of the Year.

No, Public beta testing does not count. I think MK Vs DCU has a better chance than most people may think given that SC4 just more of the same with major issues: The character creator is just a glorified costume designer which in turn makes the Tower of Lost Souls pointless and the sub par online just adds to the disappointment. if you own SC2 there is absolutely no reason to own SC4.

I don't expect it to. The game is built on gimmicks and gimmicks can only take you so far. The fighting looks okay and the graphics are fine, but compared to other games using the U3 engine it's not that amazing.

Gameplay might be able to score it some points, but I'm sure the voice acting is going to be rather awkward or silly, kind of like other MK games. Story...well I think the idea is just bullshit but maybe the critics will be more forgiving than me.

They will be using professional voice actors for the characters, minus Scorpion, who will be voiced by Boon. I heard in an interview with voice actor Richard Epcar, that he would voice Raiden, and the Joker. He's a good voice actor, and I have confidence in him. Also, the story is jointly worked on by MK story writer John Vogel, and DC writers Jimmy Palmiotti, and Justin Gray. Everyone gets their voice done right, and the cutscenes do look interesting, especially that seemless transitions between fights and cutscenes.

On the graphics, I think they're fantastic. They may not be the absolute best, but I think they're great, and they work. Character damage, arena damage, it all looks good. The gameplay looks good too. I like the "gimmicks". Making a fight more interactive does seem to capture a bit of fluidity, instead of breaks in the fight. Also, it does look like the fighting's been changed up in a good way, though I'd like to try it myself to see. As for run, mentioned earlier, I think I saw some vids showing running, but I don't know if it was a run button, or just a double tap in direction. Balance wise, they had mentioned that they were working on balance several times during the course of the game, so, hopefully, the end product will be well balanced,

The winner of fighting game of the year will most likely be between Soul Calibur 4 and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

Oh, I hope so. I never understood why running and block were on separate buttons. You should run by double tapping foward and block by pressing back..

It's always annoying to get used to the controls first after having played other fighters for a while. I always get schooled by the NPC before I adjust to the fact that I have to press certain shoulder buttons if I don't want to get hit in the face.

I'm kinda used to the block button but yeah the run button had to go. The guy from E3 that confirmed it also said that there were some running attacks like in doa & tekken, but I haven't read anything about them ever since.

for all you saying that mk vs dcu doesn't have a chance and keep talking about street fighter, let me give you something to think about.

mk vs dcu has alot of things to offer. major changes have been made. things have been added.

what other game out there has what mk vs ecu has to offer?

close combat
free fall
rage
story mode ( it's like a game within a game)
dcu involved (who will not want to play as batman or the joker or any dc character?)
realistic
mk had create a fighter before sc4. nothing new
there are somany things to mention.

name something NEW that street fighter is offering?
what other games has what mk vs dcu has?

mk is all about being different and that's why I know that mk vs dcu will win in 2008 and 2009.

once again, what do these other games have to offer that hasn't been offered by mk?
