The dude that said that Goro & Shao Kahn will probably feel "tacked on" might be on to something ... because I still own MK Gold for the Dreamcast and, when compared to MK 4 for PC/PSX ... oh yeah, there was definately some tackage there, alright. So, the inclusion of Goro & Kahn doesn't boil my blood all that bad. It 's the possibility (perhaps likelihood) that the infinites, collision detection, and imbalanced (*cough* over-fuckin'-powered) fighters will be fixed just drives me RIGHT out of my damned tree. Why? Because that's what I though I was getting a few months and $50 ago!

So, for those of you who'll bite the bullet AGAIN with the GC version .... awww, I eagerly await your rants and raves on here because I know damned well a good portion of you are going to posting shit like ...

"Woot!!! They fixed that infinite!!"

"YAY!!!! That uppercut would've whiffed on the X-BOX/PS2 version!!"

... and that's what I'm looking for as posts like that will prove two things.

1) It'll prove that X-BOX & PS-2 owners of MK Deception should just stab themselves in the eyes and then use the blood and puss to write "BETA TESTER" right on their foreheads.

2) It'll prove that just about every Midway employee above the rank of Janitor or Secretary should be forcibly strapped to a gurney and given a labotomy with an olive fork (except for Dan Forden -- hey, somebody has to record all that screaming).

Yes, gamecube is a kiddie system. I guess, at the age of 22, I should be ashamed of playing Zelda, Mario Party, Pikmin, Mario Sunshine, ect. Shame on me, I am a kid. Where are the mature games to free me from this life of sin... oh wait, they're on the shelf too. Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat; but mommy told me violence is wrong. That bitch.

If you want an honest advice, don't get it just for the two extra characters if you already have PS2 or XBox versions. Chances are that everything else, including Konquest, will be in the game, and I don't know how willing anyone here really is to go through Konquest all over again to unlock all the items you already have in your current game. That's why I never touched my GC version of MK:DA, which I got for Christmas after getting the PS2 version, because of having to do all that crap again for the GC version. There would have to be something to prevent current PS2 or XBox users from having to do all that again.

The controller is no issue either, at least for me, as I can easily play any fighting game on a GC controller, given I get a setup that's easy to deal with. I've done it on MK:DA, Soul Calibur II, Capcom vs. SNK2, Bloody Roar, ect. Practice with it, and you'll get it. If you don't, then I'll ban you.**

This also isn't the first time that Nintendo got extra with an MK game. Remember that the Game Boy Advance got MK: Tournament Edition that included the characters not in MK:DA for GBA, plus a lot extra (though most of it was to make up for the game being on such a much less powerful system).

At this point, just keep an eye on the game and what Midway is doing with it. Would be very wise for them to add much more to the GC version than just two characters, since that's improving nothing much over the other versions.

** Not really. Maybe. We'll see.

I own a gamecube and I was pretty dissapointed when I found it MKD was only coming out for the PS2 and the Xbox, but then I read that its being made for GCN. w00t! Its awesome we are getting new characters, I just wish there were more... I wish Kitana would come back or Frost. Who says the GCN controllers suck in fighting games. I kick butt with fighting games and those controllers, but that might be just me. The PS2 moving buttons are kind of hard to use, I prefer the pad instead of buttons. The X-box is too complicated, I don't know which button does what at times, but again thats just me. So, my point.... HA! We got Shao Khan... I don't really care about Goro unless he is awesome.

To the people who claim that noob/smoke was a horrible sub-boss: I rather found it refreshing for once that the sub-boss wasn't bigger than the last guy. Not to mention innovative use of a character concept. Nice way to introduce what could be a new mode in future games.
I found it refreshing that the main boss was a big bad-ass.

I don't own a gamecube. I have a PS2, without the online play. I would consider the extra characters cube gets as a reward for their patience in waiting, moreso than a sorry we didn't give you online play. Will I buy a cube? Perhaps. Maybe they'll have corrected some of the flaws in the fighting engine, and collision detection. Either way, I enjoy this game. Whether I enjoy it on 2 systems will depend on "other" factors, as opposed to a few new characters.

Personally I don't mind Midway taking an opportunity to recapitalize on their new game. If they could've gone back and fixed a few things after seeing consumer feedback, they well might have altered many things. But that is the driving force behind another possibility or update, that could be named Ultimate MK: Deception.
Hey.. stranger things have happened.grin

I found the "online play " excuse to be lame.

What about the Xbox users who can't afford the xbox live?
What about the users where their ISP are not compatible with PS2 and XBox?

Yes, I know many people who have those kind of problems and it's unfair to them.

Oh well, it's a Business...

this thread owns. You've got a guy telling somebody who is discussing the economics of midway that he can't afford a gc and deception for it. You have plenty of people who are going to buy a gc and deception for two tacked on characters which is one of the two reasons they added them in the first place the other being the amount of time between release for xbox/ps2. You might factor in that tekken 5 will come out a few weeks ahead of it and people with ps2 and gc will be more inclined to buy T5 with it's superior graphics and gameplay. Seriously when have boss characters ever been anything but tacked on. They have never had a full move list they just relied on power hits the inability to be thrown and the ability to break the physics of the game such as attacking/throwing while blocking. Also have to give some props to the guy talking about GC won't be able to prove how good they are. Seriously the game is a 50/50 mix up it's not even rock/paper/scissors I think the game cube owners can live with themselves at not being able to prove they can mix up mid and throw.

The only reason anybody should have reason to be upset is if they fix the gameplay. This won't happen because for them to fix it they would have to revamp the system almost entirely.
hm... i'll be pissed of. Not because there are just two new characters or because it's Shao kahn and Goro. That's not the reason. It's just that the GC version doesn't came out in Europe. That Sucks!!!! But otherwise i think that the fatalities sucks for Shao Kahn and Goro. I just remember at MKT for N64. I'll be waiting and hope that Midway think over the Pal-version..

To all those whining and cursing Midway because "Gamecube it teh kiddie" and "Boon should die"

You guys can go **** yourselves. Here's why:

I'm sick of all you punk ass immature people complaining that Gamecube is kiddie. That it doesn't appeal to your grown up tastes. I have never picked up a game for blood, violence, or because I think it will make me look cool to a goup of people (people you want to be your friends). If I get a game, I get it because I enjoy it. I don't care if that game is Mortal Kombat: Deception (which I have for PS2) or Mario Power Tennis. If it's Unreal Tournament 2004 or Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I play a game because it helps me to relax and take me somewhere new (and look, I don't need drugs to do it either).

You probably think I'm just some kid beating out the ERSB rating system. guess again, I'm a 21 year old game designer for a small developer near Chicago. I am planning on going to Midway's Chicago office around the time of MKDs Gamecube release to congradulate Ed Boon and the rest of the team personally for listening to the hundreds of thousands of Gamecube owners who asked for this.

I got a PS2 around March...I recently had to go buy the Revolution controller from Gamester because that analog stick positioning on the sony controller majorly sucks. I can no longer use a D-Pad for fighting, driving, adventure games. I need my analog stick and the GC has the best positioning, imho, for many games. Give it two hours and you'll get used to it because it's a natural position for you fingers to be in.

I tried online play for my PS2, it just sucked, and I'm on a 150 kb/s DSL (can't say it's because I'm on a slow connection). I can't stand online play, because I grew up always in the room with the person I'm playing against, and there is something different about that and online gaming. (this will get me flamed, but online play is just an excuse to have no social life imho) I preffer to royally kick someones ass in a game, and then go get a drink afterwards with them and maybe talk gaming (or given the right crowd, DnD).

Now, for all those saying "Boon should die", why? Because the guy knows he owes something to Cube owners for ditching them for like a year? I have the PS2 version of MKD, and all I can say is, I'm planning on selling it and getting the GC version, because for me and apparently many others out there, the controller is better, the graphics are better (than PS2 atleast), and you can take your online play and shove it, I'll be sitting in my apartment with friends and gamers I meet around town having a ball, you can sit there talking to a screenname and pretending you're making friends.

Get over your immature console hating days, realize that all consoles have good games (both mature and for everyone) and that in the end, we're all just trying to have fun.

With that I'm done.

Thanks Starfyre... I appreciate that.

Sometimes you just gotta say what's on your mind, rather than some of these people who blindly follow something for image sake.

My DnD group bought my bud a Gamecube because he was a damn good DM. The first game he got, Resident Evil 0. The second game, Super Smash Bros' Melee, The third game, Mario Kart: Double Dash. Why? To play it with the DnD group after sessions.

You people want to know the reason I did buy a PS2? Not for it's GTA games, or online play, or the DVD player, Final Fantasy, or the cool black and blue system case. I bought a PS2 because my girlfriend kicked my ass in DDR Max 2, and I had to practice to try and beat her (I still haven't). I did eventually get all those other games, but have I touched them at all 2 weeks after buying them? Nope, been playing Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Resident Evil 4 demo for the past 4 weeks with friends (or in the case of RE4, giving friend advice that gets them killed tongue ). Can I play GTA with my friends? How about Final Fantasy X? Jak and Daxter? And even if a game does have multiplayer like MKD or FFXI, I can only play with maybe one other person without paying Sony even more money for a multitap or a BB adapter. With the Xbox, I can play a mediocre FPS with amazing graphics with my friends (that I can also get on my PC). Wow! With Gamecube I can take a trip down memory lane in SSBM beating the crap out of 3 friends in some hectic battles that include characters we all grew up with. I can race around the Mushroom Kingdom firing homing shells at my friends as they try and out pace the blue shell I fired a moment before.

This is what bothers me about Sony fanboys, Microsoft fanboys, or even Nintendo fanboys now days. Anyone who thinks a single system is superior is forgetting that gaming used to be about community. Not an online one, but people you met around town. I can remember walking around town in the mid 90's, talking to people about games, and only rarely getting into an argument about console superiority. Games were just games then.

It's this mainstream bullshit that has taken the fun out of this industry. It's the reason Prince of Persia: Warrior Within has departed from the roots of the series (but still sold like crazy). The reason a game with as many bugs and unimaginative gameplay as GTA:VC can become a million seller. The reason EA can release a slightly updated version of Madden each year and have it sell millions. It's the reason I sit here, playing games that have that cool image I'm told I need, wishing I still had my Genesis, or even my NES. Back then it was all gameplay for the most part. Now, if it doesn't bleed and have a cool image, it doesn't sell. I'm tired of it.

As someone who's been working on PC games since 2001 with a worldwide team, I can say fuck all that image crap. If this keeps up in the industry, it's going to become stale and we're going to go through another market crash. And who's that going to affect the most? The real gamers. Not the mainstream people, the image people, the one obsessing over which console looks the best or which is right for their age group. It's going to be the person with both MKD and Mario Kart, Ninja Gaiden and Zelda. The person who held on to their N64 or their Saturn because of a few games they loved.

I'm keeping my NES, my N64, my Gamecube, even my Dreamcast, just so I never forget how things used to be, before image. When all that mattered was, how well you played what you played, not how what you played made you look.
