"How could MK improve upon how it is now?"
"MK is better."
"MK has things other's don't."
"MK isn't any other game."
"MK is just different."
"How do you compare different games?"
""How do you decide what makes a game good?"
What is good?"
"What is the meaning of life?"
Properties. Look it up, you'll probably find it at a site concerning a serious fighter, where the majority of threads are about character specific strats, rather than the majority of threads being about unloxing teh sues.
MK does have things other fighters don't, but it also lacks some of the most basic elements of a game worthy of playing, as opposed to a Tekken, or a VF, which doesn't have those things MK has, but at least has the basics of a fighting game worth playing for the 'fighting'.
This guy clearly likes to have sex with men because he has a different opinion than you? Yeah that's great.
I'm agreeing with him about quite a lot of things, and reading this thread is enough to make me as bias toward MK as he is.
In fact, reading this thread is enough to make me want to not ever leave general again.

Well since everyone is putting in their two cents, I guess I will too:
1. He is dead on balls accurate about the fighting system. It's just not that good.
Actually, its not that bad either. My only complaint is how open you are when your opponent blocks. I have sene that weapon styles are alot more used in this version.
2. Frank from Fightersgeneration has always made it obvious that he doesn't care too much for the MK series. He does on the otherhand love SNK's King of Fighters games and Street Fighter(So he does have good taste in games).
Sorry. I just got SNK vs Capcom Chaos, and while its fun, its the same horrible 2d graphics that have been seen for the last decade and a half in those games. Same moves, same graphics, same fighting styles, same everything...except it has like 50 characters in it...whuppy. Street Fighter stopped being the King of Fighters in about '95. And the Street Fighter EX series doesnt count. Thats just 2d with polygon models. Ryu vs Ken got old after the first 7 years.
3. So what if he's harsh? If what he said really affects your opinion on the game then that's your problem.
Yes, but its fun to bitch to faceless people.
4. Obviously people here are going to have an uproar over this. But let's face facts people; Mortal Kobat isn't exactly top tier gaming. Hell it's barely second tier gaming. So when he say's it good for a "casual game" he isn't far off.
Actually, IMHO, the MK series (despite MK3) is the only series I find myself still playing. Even Soul Caliber and DOA don't continue to draw my interest much anymore. Theres just always been something about MK that has drawn me to it. Don't get me wrong, DOA and Soul Caliber are great games, but their replay factor is the same as most fighting games.
5. The way he describes the Konquest mode was the same way I laughed about it. The VO in MKD is laughably bad, but of course I'd find that funny just look at my avatar and sig combo (those who'll catch the reference).
Eh, I had fun with Konquest. At the core of it, its just a trainer. Good thing you dont have to do those retardly long combos with Raiden or Frost to pass it:)
6. The score. Yes it's harsh. Yes I feel it was a little too low (I'd have given it a 6), but he bases it mostly around the figting engine, which is pretty piss poor.

8. If they had fixed the blocking thing and kept the stupid fatality distances out, it would be a 9.5

I'm sorry, but what is the classic mk feel? The story and fatalities. I would be totally for a new engine. Hell, give it the vf4 fighting engine, and you would get best of both worlds. I was horribly disapointted when I saw that the game was running on the MKDA engine.
1- The lame fluff for the kids who want blood, fatalities and secrets
2- a very solid fighting engine for people who actually want to play the game for what it is, a fighting game, and not a violent pikemon collect-a-thon

"Mortal Kombat is, and always will be." I'm a fan of the series, a die-hard, too, but I'M also an AVID fighting game fan. I love and own Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Bloody Roar, Soul Calibur, King of Fighters, Battle Arena Toshinden, Samurai Shodown, Guilty Gear, etc. But, Mortal Kombat is STILL my favorite series, and STILL the most fun I have playing. I could care less about another person's opinions, but an attack on what is MY token game I take to heart. But, well, I DID dress up as Sub-Zero one Halloween. But, still, if people on this site have a problem with MK... why don't they leave? And why does someone who never liked the series delight in degrading it without taking an open mind. Story HAS been MK's highest point, and I still believe it's presented well. The graphics, no, aren't Tekken 5, but they're still good. The stages are without a doubt the most interactive and interesting environments ever conceived for a fighter. And, all these "lame" character designs are easily superior to most other generic or standard fighter's. While I do agree that characters like Hsu Hao, or, for more relevance, Kobra, Dairou, and Darrius, aren't very good. But, "black" Raiden, "armored" Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and many others are not just original, they're breath-takingly memorable. And, for the combat, ah, the combat, I still love MK. It has its own unique brand of fighting that is part K.I. (a love-it or hate-it game), part Street Fighter (a love-it game), and even if it does have dial-a-combo... so what? Dial those combos. Like Resident Evil and its flaws, you learn to tolerate it and accept it as part of the standard. Still, you can't win in an argument with a fan-boy. Fatality.

what is so bad about MK:Deception gameplay?
Soul Calibur sucks compared to MKD because there is no fireballs, and not as much fighters. In what does the SC2 gameplay is deaper then the MKD gameplay? there is less moves in SC2 then in MKD... no deathtrap, no fatalities, the list goes on and on. In SC2 and Tekken a button masher can win any fight, not in MKD...
Street Fighter however as much as I hate the game is like MK in that aspect, it takes skills to be a top player, not just going crazy with the controller.
MK is a game for skillful players, Soul Calibur is a game for kids IMO.

O.k. Here I was just reading and enjoying everyone’s opinions. And then you come along. You, who OBVIOUSLY have absolutely no fucking experience related to gaming whatsoever. Your ignorant use of the word “fireballs” for projectiles alone is cause to give one suspect of your unimaginable lack of intelligence and knowledge of fighters. I can tell by your next statement that you have NEVER, and I mean NEVER played SC2 in your life. You are probably the kid who sits there wishing he could pull off a buffered launcher after a guard impact with Ivy. Following it up with a turn around kick and and an Ivy lick to drag their asses screaming back to the ground with pain grimacing on your opponents face. Only to finish it off with a beautifully buffered summon suffering or calamity symphony, the GOD of all throws in any fighting game. Sit down and tap your buttons on your mommy-bought ps2 and keep your mouth shut, please. From one MK fan to another I am asking you to do a favor and stop insulting the rest of us fighting fans with your mindless regurgitation of fanboyism and blind ignorance.
And for the record, I have never flamed anyone, nor do I care to do so in the future, I just won’t sit idly while a fellow MK fan does nothing but insult a beloved fighting game with blatant non-fact.

anyone who is a fighting game fan will not like mortal kombat, it snot a traditional fighting game. so. comparing it to straight up fighters would be like comparing doom3 with counterstrike. counterstrike is a team oriented FPS multiplayer game, doom3 is a fps..but thats hwere the similarities end.

I've never liked that guy, I think he has terrible taste in video games, and appearently no life, that guy has a 10 page review for every fucking fighting character for every fucking game out there.
That pathetic mutt wouldn't know a great story if it crawled up his ass. Mortal Kombat has by far the most interesting characters, the most flashy effects, and the greatest story of any fighting game out their. Sure, the fighting engine isn't as clean as maybe soul calliber, but that game has shitty characters and no story in my opinion.
Mortal Kombat is so unique it makes other fighting games seem like piss poor quality to me, I like street fighter, but I hate their character designs, it's so bland and lame. And moves, so boring and overdone.
Mortal Kombat excells in special attacks, Sub-Zero's freeze and Scorpion's harpoon are by far THE GREATEST special attacks of any fighting game in the world.
So, whoever this guy thinks he is, 'the guru of fighting genre', or some masterminded little fuck that can name off every fighting game character from A - Z in less than 10 seconds, only one truth prevails.
He has no taste what so ever.

Bah, dude, get a life, he can use whatever word he wants for 'projectiles' here.
Soul Caliber doesn't have any missles
Soul Caliber doesn't have any throwy things of hurt
Soul Caliber doesn't have any ranged strikes
Soul Caliber isn't any fun compared to MK.
No discussion.

Although I consider myself an avid fighting game fan (as well as a fighting fan), I never understood what dial-a-combos were, and why everyone says MK sucks for having them. Did you know that pressing the same buttons to do most combos in MK games, especially the later ones, will give you a combo in damn near every other fighting game made past 1999?
And why argue over such trivial things? Who the heck cares if you think Soul Calibur sucks royal balls (I find it "cool" at the best - I don't find its entire presentation that great)? We're all Kombat fans here, and that's what counts. Word.
And Frank is quite nuts, I agree. I don't understand how he can rate MKDA higher than MKD, when it's clear that MKD is an improved version of the former. Or how he rates all of these Capcom and SNK games (which, don't get me wrong, I love and play a lot, just I don't hold in higher regard than MK) with HIGH scores, even if they did just throw in one or two new moves or characters. It's like in his eyes, those companies can do no wrong... His character section did rock, though. I remember him giving Sub-Zero a high rating as a character, so WTM. But if he's so worried about server traffic, why doesn't he just make mirrors?

Just a question that poped up in my head about the average age of people who have posted in this thread, I'll take a guess at 7.
