Okay, so rumor has it an original character will die. Let's be logical about this people. Let's take this on a character by character basis.
Okay, 1st, Kano, Sonya, Cage, Reptile, Shang Tsung & Goro aren't in the game, so it's probably not them. (Though you never know)
Now, Sub-Zero, if you'll remember, is the 2nd in his line, and didn't debut until MK2, and thusly is not an original character, so it's likely not him.
As for Liu Kang, rumor has it that the Zombie will beat the soul, and thusly lead way for evil Liu Kang stories, so since they supposedly have plans for him, it's likely not him.
Now, the only two characters remaining are Raiden and Scorpion, and I believe that for the reasons outlined above, these two are the only possibilities.
Now Raiden could make sense in that it's finally his end. He's released his godly essence, and is vulnerable. Maybe it's finally the thunder god's time to get struck down. He's taught the earth warriors all they know. Classicaly, after a mentor archetype finishes leading the hero(s) in their quest, the only thing left he can teach them is experiencing loss, so he dies. Just look at Obi-Wan man. Let Darth Vader take him down, knowing Luke was watching. Maybe Raiden is finally walking off into the sunset. (Thus also leaving Fujin room to grow)
Now Scorpion also has the perfect opportunity to die. In this game, he's rumored to become a good-guy, a champion of the elder gods. Maybe he complete's their quest, or delivers their pizza (bezou is funny) or whatever the hell they want him to do, and is thusly finally lifted of his tortured soul curse, they certainly have the power, and thus he's allowed access into the heavens, rather then the room he's been renting in the netherrealm for 10 years. This would make sense, as if he is finally at peace with his family, he would have what he always wanted, and would never have to return to kombat.
That's just my take on things. Personally, I think whether they say it or not, no original character will be gone more then a game or 2. Especially not Sub or Scorpion. Just look at 3, they tried that game with no ninjas and it bombed. They had to remake it with the ninjas.

The only three originals in Deception are Raiden, Liu Kang, and Scorpion. Funny thing is Scorp and Liu are already dead. Spectre, zombie, same thing. Raiden is immortal, unless releasing his god-like essence means he is no longer a god thus no longer immortal. The dead man could only be Raiden.

A very logical, well thought out idea/theory.. i like it.. I think you might be right dude... i think it's Raiden's turn to say byebye and get killed.. but you never know what Boon and Midway might pull out on us... We'll just have to wait and see..

Sub-Zero was in MK1

Sub Zero in MK1 was a different Sub Zero then the one in 2. Actually, the one in 2 was japanese, but the one in 3 was American...The american one...Is the older brother? or what?

I believe that both Sub-Zero brothers were American (Nationality Chinese?). The older brother was in MK1, UMK3 (?), and starred in MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero (Though they gave him the scar for some reason). The Younger brother was in MK2 - MK:D.

I also am thinking that the character bowing out this time around is Raiden. Looking at things from a logical perspective (as mentioned above) he definitely makes more sense to go then any of the others. Now..if you'll excuse me, I'll have to hide from tgrant for agreeing that his FAVE character is going to die.
Also IOLKW: I believe you are 100% right. When her FIRST pic came out (the concept art one) She did have a RED dragon shaped tattoo on her arm. Didn't think anything of it at the time...and perhaps it could mean nothing because at the time of her Concept drawing they could have been planning her as a Red Dragon member since neither Mavado or Hsu Hao were in the game. I still think you are right though, why else would she kill two of her Clan members?

Tom, I agree. I always though Kira was a Red Dragon character (I hope she is), specially because of her hair (I know it doesn’t really mean much but come on! Red hair, red dragon tattoo?)
Not only that, but also the little fact that so far, no Red Dragon has been announced.

Wait. The character could have died before the game starts. Isnt that a possibility?

Well, you all remember Ed Boon saying that he would never create an MK without Scorpion and Sub-Zero. So that kind of leaves them out. We don't really know that Sonya and Johnny Cage aren't in the game yet. They could be Super Unlockables, but even if they aren't, they can still be included in the storyline.
If it is a person that is IN the game though, that you can select, then i'm going to have to say it's Raiden that is going to die. Don't know how he will die, but it's probably him who is going to die. Then that sets up for Fujin to take his place.

Kano's the dead original. You said that Mavado's ending happened. Kano died in Mavado's ending, so putting 2 and 2 together, it's most likely Kano.

ok, two things
1. I thought Kira was black dragon with Kabal (though that may be wrong)
2. You're all forgetting the eighth original character from Mk1. What if it's Reptile that dies in Deception. He has been turned into Onaga, so is it really that big of a leap to say that he dies in this one? You know, due to the fact he's the big bad guy at the end, I mean Shinnok died when he was the boss.

I just got back from lunch with him and his brother Jordan, and as soon as I'm done helping my mom with some stuff around here, I'll post what I found out. GOOD STUFF TOO!! LOL I'll try not to keep you guys waiting long!!

Okay, I had a talk with his brother today during a lunch we had, and he told me that there definately ARE more playable characters than we know about. He said to find them, all you have to do is look around for people's costumes that have changed a little or majorly and if you don't feel like doing that, there are hints ALL OVER the place. He said that the Midway team has been trying to drop hints to the fans forever now. This leads me to believe that 2 of them will be Fujin (see the other topic about the word 'Fujin' in the clouds) and Rain (the Konquest picture where he had a symbol now on the forehead area of his mask and when that guy in that interview said "especially Rain" or something like that about Konquest mode). He said that the characters that were CUT from the game that my friend told me about (see earlier page) were VERY VERY well planned out and they probably just cut them from the main cast list.

Blaze (this is what his story comes down to, he has been gaurding the egg, it finally hatches. if he is going to become a full blown character now is the time to do it)

My guesses are Fujin, Sektor, Rain, maybe Kitana, and a new character possibly the rumored shokan.
