So I got the game for 360, and it plays pretty well, but the d-pad isn't as responsive as I want it to be. It also makes my character jump when I don't want him to. This makes it really hard to pull off fatalties, and to do combos.
Does anybody know of a 360 controller that has a good d-pad?

I would like to know this as well. I am considering the Hori stick but I don't know if anyone else has tried it.

The Xbox 360 D. pad is horrible for fighting games in general. Just the way it's made I guess. I have VF5 for PS3 and 360, but I can play a lot easier and pull off harder juggles on the PS3 pad than the 360's.

Yes, the 360 D-Pad is terrible. For fighting games and XBox Arcade games I use a wired controller I bought from GameStop. That's what it says on the controller as well, "GameStop" in white/red. It has a true D-Pad which is nice. I can't recommend the controller for any other purpose than fighting games but it will fix the problems that you are speaking of.
Hope that helps!

Say Halo, Fable and all other exclusive Xbox games were for PS3 also... would there even be a reason to have a 360?
In other words... I totally agree.

The D-Pad for the 360 controller is the weak point but the PS3 controller has the left analog in the incorrect position (at least in my opinion). Hopefully, both MS and Sony learn from each other's controller designs for the next gen. Though, I have both a PS3 and 360 and I prefer the gaming community on Live. Much more seasoned for shooters and such but again I think that PSN will have a similar feel next gen (it's come a long way already) after the gaming community has some time to become familiar with online gaming strategies.

I havent played MK vs DC. However, i just use the joy-stick to play fighting games(soul calibur 4, guilty gear, dead or alive 4, UMK) on the 360 and I dont think i've had any problems with it. Does that mean that I will be comfortable using the joystick for mk vs dc?
i can play the actual game using the analong stick just fine although it's ackward having to switch to the dpad when i want to jump and duck but you do get used to it and i'm much better at it today than i was yesterday lol.
i can do all the special moves and most of the juggles but fatalities are a serious problem. the analong stick makes doing fatalities like batmans' very difficult for me. but the dpad is worse, as someone above said the character almost always jumps when they shouldn't be.
usually pressing down, back will make my character jump doing a fatality on the dpad. and similar odd things happen when going from back to forward and vice versa.
but the actually fighting works fine with the analog stick. just not the fatalities.

Look online for a Mad Catz Game Pad Pro for 360. It has a cross type d-pad with a better design on the bumpers.

I find the 360's controller better for everything else but fighting games so yeah. That's the only thing that the 360's controller doesn't feel right for. So I'd take the 360 anyways. I don't need an overpriced blu ray player with shitty games when I can get an HD DVD player with awesome games

Cant you just configure the analog so that you can jump?

Dunno, haven't tried, but I wouldn't anyways. You need precision for fighting games. There is no way I would use a PS3 over this little issue though.
On top of everything else, I use the 360 to control my media center running Vista in another room which alone, to me anyways, is worth a $200.00 console all by itself.
So the Mad Catz and generic Gamestop controller are better, eh?

You can hold LT and move the analog Upwards to jump.
Also, The 360 Controllers is better than the PS3 controller in everything but fighters
all i play is fighters and RPGs anyway. very rarely do i move on to something else so a bad controller was never an issue for me until now. although if i do decide to play something else it would seem the general idea is that the 360 controller is better.
also glad to know i'm not the only one having problems.

I personally never had a problem just using the analogue sticks. That's all I've ever used to fighting games. I mean, isn't it more similar to an arcade joystick anyway?
That being said, if you're a fighting game purist, you'll get a Hori Arcade stick for your fighting games anyway.
But if you MUST use the D-pad, there are a couple of options. Either 1) tough it out, 2) buy a third-party controller like the Mad Katz one, or 3) there's a very good Japanese-orientated Xbox 360 controller available in Japan with a really good D-pad. I can't remember the name (it might even be an official controller), so look around for an import if you want to cough up the cash.

do this stupid but incredible fix:
http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Fix-the-d-pad-on-the-Xbox-360-control-pad-mor/
and transform worst d-pad ever in one of the best d-pad ^_^
i did this (because jap Hori Gamepad is out of stock everywhere) and it works!!!! WORKS!!!! i use wired original microsoft pad with this plastic lid filler (i used a thicker plastic lid like those used in the above link) fix under d-pad with Virtua Fighter 5 and Soul Calibur 4 and it's PERFECT....never a miss, never a bad un-wanted direction, never a problem with HCF/B and QCF/B movements etc
try this and enjoy ;)

Thank you so much for stopping by an Xbox 360 controller thread and giving us information that has no relevance whatsoever. Thumbs up to you buddy.
