You really have to just wait till the consoles are out to see what they can and cant do, as they all make up shit at this point and sony would still try to make you believe the ps2 is the most powerful bit of kit at the moment if they thought youd buy it.

Yo, i just coppied and pasted this from my thread, so if someone has already stated this, Im sorry.

As you know, the X-Box 360 comes out in the holiday season, wich is fine cuz thats when consoles come out and games sell the best. But i beliene we PS2 users are going to get shafted because of the spring release.

User problem: do i buy now or wait for the port that i know is comming?

Developers problems: do i develop this for the PS2 and X-Box 360 or the PS3 and the X-Box 360 or develop for both sony systems.

The guys on microsoft's bandwagon dont have much to worry about, because the heavy hitters are guarenteed for the 360. This is a nonissue for those who own both the PS2 and the X-Box, and intend to get at least one next-gen console.

Also this post is nintendo compatable, just replace SONY's product with the appropriate Nintendo console.

It really depends to some compacity. Depending on how big a game companies is, they'll ussually go 2 ways when developing a game:

1) Go with the lowest common denominator with the consoles. Develope for the PS2, and just port it over to the Xbox, Gamecube, and Xbox 360 with faster load times smoother annimations & techtures, and maybe depending on how much development time they have between the release of the different versions, try and bump up the polygon count on the techtures a bit.

2) Develope for the the highest common denominator on the consoles Xbox 360, and PS3, then just trim down the game to run on the current gen-system. Lower techtures, cut unneccesarsy features, turn off diffent graphical effects (lightig, and shodow, etc), etc.

Developers probalby won't go with option 2, until at least next year when all next gen-systems are released. Game developers don't even have final development kits for the next gen systems yet including the Xbox 360, and won't until mid-late july Microsoft said. Game developers can't wait until july for the final built to start working on games, they wouldn't be able to get games done within 3-4 months. Thats why most games that where shown off at E3, and are slated for current gen and Xbox 360 platforms don't look any differnt than current gen games. Like Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, and Call of Duty 2.

I dont care how ugly they are, i'm more bothered about how good they are to use seeing as your not going to be able to use PS2 controllers.

First off, imo I think the ps3 controllers look fine. Second you will oviously be able to use ur ps2 controllers on the ps3 seeing that ps1 controllers can be used on ps2. So if you dont like the ps3 controllers just use your ps2 controllers. wink

Does anyone else find it funny that Nintendo has only been mentioned like 5 times? Does no one seem to care that The Revolution will allow you to download all of Nintendo's back library? That is a lot of good games. Shows no one cares about Nintendo anymore....................

I used to be a Nintendo fanboy arguing with my friends that gamecube was better that ps2. I have finally come to see the truth after a few years.

Every fucking time I see an add for an innovative video game, I look at the systems and it is always "PS2-Xbox, PS2-Xbox". As a gamecube owner I have been pissed off many times by being restricted to try new games because developers don't want to make new innovative games for gamecube. Don't get me wrong, Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, and all those Nintendo guys pwn, but I need more than just the Nintendo classics.

My Next Gen Pick will be based on software. I'm not gonna buy my system for its media functions or dvd playback or amazing specs. When it all comes down to it why do we buy game systems? To play fucking games. I think sony, microsoft, and nintendo are getting too wrapped up in "multi-media functions" and the games will suffer because of it.

Don't get me wrong that shit is great, but I want to have great games too. I mean I can always just do all that crap on the original medium (e.g. watch dvd on a dvd player, watch downloaded videos on the computer, listen to music on an ipod cdplayer, etc.).

I think Microsoft might go over the tope this gen as long as they can get the software support. Had XBox had better games, It sweeps the console wars no problem. But I think a lot of developers are jumping on microsofts bandwagon. Also, It [360] does get the support of Christmas. It will definately be the "must buy" of the season.

Also I have heard, and this might not be true, that Microsoft will counter PS3's release with Halo 3. This would be a big problem for sony, cuz all those kids that missed out at christmas and saved their money, will probably go for 360 and halo 3 and get ps3 later.

If Microsoft, if all this happens, can keep up thier momentum with some more good games, I think they will leave sony in the dust. Also some people might be turned off by Sony's suggested high price of $400. I know I would.

So those r my thoughts, and well yea, we'll see who really wins when the consoles come out.

Well I still care about Nintendo. After all, the original NES was the first console I ever got and it was what got me hooked on video games to begin with. My NES broke down on me years ago and im finally looking forward to downloading all those countless old-school NES games on the Revolution. Along with some of my favorite SNES and N64 games. I have alot more favorite NES games than SNES and N64 games though. Perhaps because it has a much bigger library. I just hope the controller truly is a "Revolution" though. I have faith it will be though. After all, Nintendo was the first to introduce an analog controller with the N64. Then of course Sony copied with the Dual Shock and Microsoft also jumped on the analog controller banwagon with Xbox's controller. Nintendo also was the first to introduce the rumble feature with the rumble pack and of course both Microsoft and Sony followed suite. Thats why the controller hasn't been revealed at E3.

Anyways, im leaning towards getting both the Revolution and PS3 duo. PS3 for my fighting game fix and Revolution for all the classic old-school games and hopefully some new innovative Revolution games.

I just thought you should know that you will have to pay to download the games from other developers it's the Nintendo developed games that are free, Also you wont be able to get any games from Rare as Microsoft now own them so Golden eye, perfect dark etc are ones that you never be able to download unless microsoft say Rare can allow downloads which i doubt seeing as it's for a rival company and Nintendo would have to pay Microsoft for the rights which i doubt they would do.

Well that kind of defeats the purpose.......................

Who's going to pay to play retro games when you can just pop them in on your old system? I know I wouldn't.

Yeah, I heard that as well. Bill Gates is hinting at it.

It's definetly going to be a stretch for people who want to pick up all 3 consoles with the next-gen ones. There looking to be pretty pricey. I have all 3 current gen ones, and it's a streatch for all the good games between them, now the next-gen systems are going to cost more than this generations. Plus the increase in price on all the games. It's going to be hard for people to pick up all 3. Ill probably go with Xbox 360, and Nintendo Revolution. Always go with Nintendo because of their first party line up, plus their online service is going to be free to use, plus downloadable games from past systems. And the Xbox 360 since Microsft has done a good job with Xbox Live, the online experience can only get better. As much as I would love to get a PS3 for Tekken 6, Killzone 2, MotorStorm, FF VII, and I-8. It's looking to be significantly more than the Xbox 360, and some of the features seem to be completly useless, just to jack up the price. Really 7 wireless Bluetooth controllers? Who the Fuck is going to play w/7 people in split screen? Also I heard Sony is going to swap their Memory Sticks for the current memory cards, which is a fucking terrible move on their part. A 4gb memory stick can run $999 from them. Unless Sony plans to bring the cost of their memory sticks, their out of their fucking minds that consumers will embrace them .

I know sony thinks just because their leading the console wars they can jack prices of all their shit. I think sony is going to fall behind this generation if they don't pay more attention to consumer satisfaction. I also might pick up a 360 and Revolution but I'm still undecided. Depends on who imo has better games PS3 or 360.

First off it's not going to cost far more than 360 as Sony has already said the PS3 will be the same price as it was when the PS2 launched, secondly the PS3 can support more than 7 controllers there are 6 USB ports that can use controllers as well, and no one is saying you have to have 7 controllers 7 is the number of bluetooth devices that can be supported this isn't just contollers it could be keyboards, mice, headsets etc the 7 controllers was just an example, thirdly Sony hasn't said how games are to be saved yet, it's just rumours, and even if they did use memory sticks it wont be the 4gb ultra expensive version it would most likly be a version developed for PS3, the same rumours and rants about expensive hardware were said about the PS2 and did that turn out that way, no, the only thing that will most likly increase in cost will be the Games which is what some devlopers are asking for, whether this happens is not yet known.

First of all if you look at it from a production stand point, the hardware is estimated to cost at least $700. If Sony is going to release the PS3 for for the same price as when the PS2 came out, there going to be taking a huge hit, just to move the system. It's already being estmated that Microsft will be selling the Xbox 360 for $300 when it's estemated that it will cost Microsft $375 to manufacture. Secondly Sony hasn't said anything official about the price except that it would be less than $500. They're billing the PS3 as a multi-media device not a console. So they're essentially trying to place the product with a PC. Another think just because it supports 7 bluetooth devices doesn't make it practical. There is such a thing as overkill (If you where going to buy a router to set up a home network would you buy one w/wireless support if you don't intendo on using it?). There's also supprt for 6 usb devives. How many devices does Sony really think people are going to be connecting to the system. As for the Memory Sticks, there isn't any special size for the PSP except the 32mb version that was bundled w/ the system. Sony doesn't even sell them individually. The ones that are sold individually are manufactured by a 3rd party. So to say that there will be special sized memory sticks manufactured for the PS3, doesn't mean anything. There still going to be pricey, unless Sony brings the prices down. The biggest size memory Stick Duo that Sony manufactures is a 1gb version for $200+. Considering that Microsoft, and most likely Nintendo will be increasing the size of their memory cards (Microsoft is going with a 64mb memory card for the 360) Sony needs to increase the size of their memory cards. They want the memory stick technology to catch on, just like the Blue-Ray disk, so that why they are probably going to force people to use them with the PS3, just to get them into the market. But no ones is going to unless the price comes down. Yeah the price of the system, and memory sticks will come down over time, but by how much, and how soon?

I just looked for some games on that list you posted on various gaming sites like Gamespot, IGN, GameSpy, GameDaily, etc and cant find any listing on several games on that list so its most likely a bogus list. Alot those games on that list are confirmed but theres also alot there are not. The games that are not are probably just rumored. I looked for listings of games like Killer Instinct 3, Virtua Fighter, Killing Day, Black, and a few others. Couldn't find lisitngs for any of them for Xbox360. Killer Instict 3 is my most wanted XBox360 game but it almost sounds to go to be true. And what is up with "Virtua Fighter" on that list? No Virtua Fighter 5, just Virtua Fighter? You know thats got to be bogus. And that would be awsome if they made a XBox360 version of Black but I only found listings of that game for PS2 and the original Xbox. Though that game looks amazing and looks fun as hell to play on the current-gen consoles, that would be awsome for an enchanced next-gen console version. Of course, also sounds to good to be true. And I only found a listing of Killing Day for PS3.

that why i put quotes around in the works, because some of them arent' confirmed yet; I'll edit my list.

I think that is supposed to be VF 5, but they didn't put the number next to it. I also added the 3 to PGR 3 and notice how Madden doesn't have the year next to it.

Killer Instinct 3 was straight from the mouths of a person from Rare at E3. Its official. Killing Day is 100% for ps3 and 360. Virtua FIghter is 100% for the 360 because Sega showed vids behind closed doors at e3 of Virtua Fighter, After Burner, Sonic, a Mech game, and House of the Dead 4 on 360 hard ware. And if anyones seen the vids you KNOW they look absolutely amazing especialy for alpha kits. Sonic looked nuts.

Thanks for that info. I didn't know that. I though Virtua Fighter would have been a PS3 exclusive since the the last 2 where on PS2. And I though Killing Day was going to be PS3 exclusive since it was only shown for that system at E3. Do you know if there are any images of the new Sonic on the net? I'd like to see how good the new sonic looks on the next-gen system.

100% false. Confirmed to come out in November. I'm excited about it having the faster GPU this time once again.

This isn't a flame but the PS3 has the most powerful and faster GPU than the Xbox 360, The Xbox 360 GPU is at 500mhz the PS3 GPU is at 550mhz, And is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra's combined which is the most powerful GPU you can get, not only that but the Xbox 360 has to share it's graphical memory the PS3 doesn't, this is if the specs for both Xbox 360 and PS3 are 100 % correct as they claim, we will have to wait until the games come out to see if Sony and Nvidia can back up the specs with the games unlike the Emotion engine of the PS2, although looking at the Unreal and Fight night 3 demos which were in real time it seems that Sony's and Nvidia's claims have merit even more so if the Killzone 2 trailer was developed in realtime as Sony claim.

Wrong. It's only 6x 3.2 Ghz Power PC Processor. Or at least thats what Sony claims.
Xbox 360 = (3) 3.2ghz Power PC Porcessors = 1.09 terriflops proccesing power
PS3 = (1) 3.2 Ghz Cell Processor = 2.18 Teriflops proccesing power

The teraflops are pretty useless to compare them at. PS2 had 6 flops while xbox had 1 and we all know which system is fasterwink Obviously the ps2 isnt 6x faster than the xbox, so the ps3 isnt 2x faster than the 360. Not to mention the flops aren't really even for game calculations. Its just something sony fanboys like to throw around sice the numbers are higher but doesnt matter. Like having 7 controllers. Lame. About the sega footage, I'll try and find the link of the video of the next gen. sega games. The quality of the video isnt too great, but you can clearly see the massive detail of the games.
