Chief Thunder revealed

Hate the look, love the stage, gameplay style fits the character.

You beat me to it. For the most part I'm really liking his design. I kind of miss his mohawk and I do think they went a little overboard with the face paint, but overall i really like it as a re-imagining of him. Definitely more faithful to a native american look. I also love the fact that he is a grappler and it sounds like they are making him really balanced. Safe way to get in close and close distance.
[edit]: A better look at his face.

Also Maximilian already has a breakdown of the trailer: Chief Thunder Gameplay Breakdown

The more I look at Chief Thunder's face, the more he kind of reminds of a cross between Assassin't Creed 3 Ratonhnhaké:ton and the Johnny Depp's Tonto, just a lot more pissed off.

Never was big fan of the original Thunder design, so this is definitely improvement in my eyes. However, he looks a bit like NightWolf in MK9 and his arena reminds me of the Pit.
None of this is a bad thing, though.

Love the new look. I actually think that the war paint is awesome. It fits his character both in look and story.

I kinda wish that they'd stop removing characters projectiles, but I guess he'd be a little too powerful if he had all that he has now plus his phoenix.

I also dig that his story seems to revolve around his brother "whose body was never found." Hidden character or DLC, perhaps? Either way, I think that both he and Glacius have the best looks so far. Sabrewulf looks a little plain, and I'm still not sold on Jago's look yet.

Overall though, I freakin love how this game is coming along, even if a few old KI fans here and there seem to be miffed that every character doesn't look and play exactly like they did 18 years ago.

No offense dude, but that description is a total straw man. No one in the gaming community is thinking like that. I see people who like the game pushing that image on the opposing opinions, but no one is actually waving that flag. As a matter of fact, people who hate one design often love another. People will embrace change if it's logical.

That was totally not the case with Glacius, though. Glacius fans aren't mad because he doesn't look EXACTLY like he did in 1995. They're upset because they reinvented his concept (and then pumped him full of alien cliches).

Pretty much what Temp said. I like Jago and Sabrewulf's designs, but dislike Thunder and Glacius'. Reason being that Jago and Sabrewulf still retain elements from their original looks. (I recognize Sabrewulf's design really can't be done wrong, because he's just a big wolf. But the point remains.)

I can tell by looking at them that Jago and Sabrewulf are still themselves. But when I look at Glacius and Thunder, I don't see Glacius and Thunder. They are completely different characters in appearance. If Thunder had his Mohawk, I'd be a bit more forgiving about the over the top war paint. Since the Mohawk is such a defining part of his look. They knew to have Jago keep his mask, so why was Thunder's Mohawk cut?

No offense taken, Temp. I post regularly over at the Double Helix board and I've seen more than a few people wishing that DH had kept the style/concepts from the previous games. People that don't like DH creating differing playstyles for characters, removing moves from characters, making Glacius in to a zoning character, changing their looks etc.

There's a key difference though. Some people don't like these things because they would've preferred to have seen something different done or would've made different choices on how to update/change certain aspects.

Then there are the people that are angry because things are being done that aren't "faithful" to the original games.

You might think that I'm creating a straw man here, but I'm specifically spekaing to the latter group of people that literally want the 1995 game with updated graphics, and that group does exist.

Of course, not everyone's going to like what DH does and simply would've preferred a different style choice or a different look or whatever and I agree, that doesn't imply that they simply want the 1995 game with prettier graphics.

But I'm honestly not talking about those people. Heck, I don't like every change that they've made and unless you're totally drunk on the kool aid, I'm sure that any fan of the originals can find at least one or two things that they'd change about this game.

I personally don't like the street fighter font style or that Sabrewulf and Chief Thunder had to sacrifice their projectiles for the sake of fitting their archtype. I understand the sacrifice, I just don't like it.

My apologies if implied that people not completely on board with every choice of this game are just people that want it to be 1995 again. I didn't mean that at all. I was addressing a very specific group of people that can't stand the idea of any changes being made from KI or KI2 not because they would've done something different, but because of the mere fact that they are changes at all.

Such groups exist almost in any fandom and they are usually a very big pain in the ass to deal with. CHANGE = SACRILIGE in their opinion, no matter why this change was made.
Even the most obvious changes, like updated graphics because of the advanced technology, changes in gameplay and style, because of the new generation of players and, once again, new technology avalable... Everything met with hate and disgust.

The most hilarious thing, if the new game is almost exact copy of the previous installment, they will whine, that they want something different. If you give them something different - they whine, that things not the same and developers don't respect their fanbase and cater to the "stupid little schoolgoers, who know nothing about TRUE games, since they were stupid enough to not to be born in the 90s".

I am not joking - this is almost exactly how the though process of those people work. I've seen in plenty of times and I hate it, because there is no way to make them a bit more open-minded. Any reasoning, any attempt to call for logic and moderation with such people ends with "it's not like game X, and we hate because of it". The saddest thing, such people usually honestly believe, that after all developers owe them something and everyone who disagree with is not true / loyal / whatever fan.
Screw such people.

5 bucks per character? For DLC that's one thing, but for a free to download game with only one character available that's bullshit. Their best "deal" is paying near full price for 8 characters, costumes, and the original KI. What a complete ripoff.

That really disappoints me.

The price point is dissapointing, but since they said they are going to be making Killer Instinct into a platform, that doesn't really surprise me. Full price for the game plus original costumes and customization and the original KI Arcade game does sound like kind of a rip off. But then I have to wonder how long the game is going to be supported for. $50 US since it's a first party title is hard to swallow, but if I can pick and choose what characters I want to buy later on and spread that out over a period of time, I can manage that. That does bring up the question of, do later characters also come with alt costumes and items, or will they be more barebones like the MK and Injustice downloads.

I really don't consider it a rip-off. $40 seems pretty reasonable for all the game content plus a copy of the original Killer instinct. Plus is this the initial release of the game. Unlike capcom who re-releases their games for $40 for a handful of new characters and content that was originally charged extra for, as part of the previous version of the game.

I kind of wish there would be more than just 8 characters though.
[edit]: I just read that DH plans on releasing an another season pass sometime next year with an additional 8 characters.

So wait. Only 8 characters? We've seen 4, and Cinder, Fulgore, and Spinal are all confirmed, right? So that means just one more spot? It's gotta be Orchid, right????

I think its rip-off, expecially with Ultra Edition, because you pay 2/3 of the cost of the normal game and the some undefinite amount of money for the new content, essentially paying for the game more than 100$, which is, let's just be honest, a bit too much.

If there were less characters or they were cheaper than 5$, it would have been better. As of now - it reminds me about another Capcom scheme, where you overpay for the game. Just instead of paying for the same content over and over, you pay more for what should have been a normal game with a normal price, if not for the crazy scheme.

Besides, I am pretty sure, if there will be an Ultimate Edition (and there will be something like that, I don't see MS passing such opportunity), then all this payment for the F2P content was for nothing.

I am an old school guy in that regard and I prefer to buy complete game for complete price, rather then buying incomplete game and then more money to complete it. I am not against payable DLC, as long it's in the certain limits, where it doesn't feel like 1/4 of the roster was cutdwon, just to be put later on sale for separate price (like in Injutice).

Now that you mentioned it, it also means that there will only be two more characters revealed before the game is actually released. Two of those four characters are going to be released post launch.

I'm really hoping Orchid does return, but I thought DH said there would be new characters as well. That would mean Orchid didn't make the cut and a new character would be introduced instead. sad

I thank Fulgore and spinal will be the final two characters to actually ship with the game and cinder will be released post launch. Cinder is too much like Glacius and I don't see them including him in the shipped roster for diversity reasons.

I can't believe they're launching with 6 characters. That is pretty ridiculous. I get that they are trying to spread the support over time to extend the longevity of the game. But 6 characters?

Agreed. I honestly thought they would have released the game with 11 character, 6 is bad. I'll still buy the game, but I'm disappointed. I'm curious if the port of KI1 will include online play, achievements and leaderboards?

So with this pricing news, DH has once again failed, just in an ENTIRELY different aspect?

These guys can't win and I was actually starting to like this game (but still, fuck Xbone), especially the musical aspect (NRS, please take notes).

I feel like it may be M$'s fault though. They're not above bleeding a fan base dry using some shit they've been hoping to see for almost their entire lifetimes.
