And I say goddamn, that 'c-c-c-c-combo breaker' yell is so fucking satisfying to hear in person. No online vids do it justice.

So which version of the announcer is better? Chris Sudderland as the original, or the new one they have?

In Max's 2nd In the raw video, during the second match they have Chris set as the announcer and personally I don't like it. I don't know if they din't finish processing the audio or what, but it doesn't sound like the only KI games one bit with him. I personally prefer the new announcer.

The other fighters in the game would agree with you........If they were able to survive Orchid's Flashing finisher, that is.

If anyone was concerned about Existing fightstick not working, you can breath a sigh of relief. Existing (current gen) fightsticks work on XBO.

So long as these units are final retail units and not devkits or PC's, it looks like current gen fightsicks will work on the XBO.

Double helix is showing off the port of KI1 on the Twitch steam. they have various graphics filters (none, smoth, rgb) and there is there is even an option to switch between the final 1.5 build and the classic/earlier build that has all the glitches and infinite still in it.

Spinal looks amazing!

And that said, can we stop with the teasers now? Just wait a month and put together a full-trailer. These teasers suck the life out of the actual combo reveals. It was okay with Sadira because the girl in the teaser wasn't actually her. It was kinda permissible with Orchid because the game is so close to release, but no one is going to be able to play Spinal till, like, what? March? And if you're going to make a teaser out of him, put it in an official Orchid trailer! Don't screen cap it! SCREEN CAPS ARE NOT HYPE!
EDIT: Fair enough, the teaser is actually FROM the Orchid trailer, but my point still stands.

Look at the Noob Saibot reveal and the Wii Fit Trainer reveal: THAT'S how you reveal a character. This is all sorta half-assed, but nonetheless, Spinal does look very good. Looking forward to Maximillian's analysis of Orchid's gameplay and Spinal's design.

I prefer the teasers.

MK9's pre-release advertising was so ass. Like, the worst I've ever fucking seen. We barely got to see like half the roster before the game came out and things were ALWAYS late...or even flat-out lies, like Mileena's bio on the official site changing, or having a space on the page for Kahn, then on the date his stuff is to be shown, suddenly changing it to Shang instead. And remember that time there was a countdown timer...for a second countdown timer!

If there are hidden characters, fine, don't spoil them, surprises should be a surprise, sure...but don't be cute. Mystery is overrated when we're talking about the basics. if you've got like 20 weeks until the game comes out and 20 characters on the starting roster, I expect to see 20 god damned somethings: renders, videos, release a fucking bio, whatever, just do SOMETHING for each character, one a week until the game comes out. I don't NEED to see their combos right away, I just wanna know they're in there and what they look like.
And it's nice to have a little time to speculate about what moves they MIGHT have before we get to see what moves they DO have, especially when the devs are paying so much attention to community feedback.
How the Brawl website did it back in the day is the way it should always be done in an ideal world, but KI Is doing fine. A lot more spread out, but also a lot more detailed, and with such a tiny starting roster, it makes perfect sense. Plus I love that they're sharing so much through Max, who's essentially just some fan on Youtube. I do wish they had something to say about story though, but perhaps that would spoil season 2 characters. Can't talk about Jago or Orchid's story without talking about Fulgore...

Everything should be released by March, but DH did say they where shooting for sooner rather than later. And if you think realistically, the characters have had about a 6 week time between they are initially teased and then actually playable in the game. So we could be looking at mid Dec. for Spinal's release. Plus players that buy the Ultra edition of the game will have early access to try him out and give feedback, so he might be available to test out even sooner.

B. Orchid looks great, and seeing her go toe to toe with Saberwulf in a rush down vs rush down match was awesome. I think the guys over at DH have done a great job with the character. But I think one of my favorite parts from the stream was seeing the accessories that you can put onto the characters. The steampunk/chemist style for Saberwulf is probably my favorite one so far.

The thing with MK9 is that they were sitting on finished content with no release trailers. That was a lose-lose for everyone, and I have no clue whose idea that was. However, I do think they revealed Smoke last because they knew the hair looked horrible and they were trying to fix it. And failed.

This is different, though. When they revealed Orchid, her moveset was most likely not finished, and given how close they are to the launch date, I'm alright with that teaser. Not Spinal, though. Despite Maxmillian's thesis that Fulgore is the poster boy (which I guess he literally is), the picture of Spinal on the side of the arcade cabinet is the defining image of Killer Instinct for a lot of people.

He's the one character who I feel they should have rolled out the red carpet for. Also, he's not a launch character. I was okay waiting an extra 3 or 4 weeks. That's nothing compared to how long we waited for Kabal or Quan Chi.

RazorsEdge701 Wrote:

I agree with all the above. Even the part about the combos. I don't necessarily think you need heavy gameplay to make a great reveal. Some normals and a special move would have gone a long way. Though if waiting three more weeks would have meant a full combo exhibition, I would have been all for it. We have so much content already.

I don't quite agree here, but that's personal preference. To me, it's more fun to see the move and talk about how it can be strategically integrated.

That sounds plausible, but wouldn't that mean a good chunk of his development has already been completed? If waiting three more weeks would have meant a bigger/better character trailer, that has my vote.

I guess I don't see Spinal in the same light you do, he strikes me as second tier in popularity/importance.

Which is why I figure that radiation symbol stands for Cinder and they're saving Fulgore for the beginning of season 2. S2 needs a Jago/Orchid-level "must have".

I mean, Riptor and Combo are cool and all, but if it was just them and the stupid cavemen from KI2, I don't imagine sales would be as strong for season 2 as they will be for the initial release.

Fulgore is the one I'm most looking forward to. That and who or what is gonna be the boss this time. I hope if it's someone new, they end up being as cool as Eyedol was.

I really don't see the point. MS was insistent the game be a launch title, which was the reason for the digital only model. So releasing a new character a few weeks after the game launches isn't a huge deal. I could see your point if it was an actual physical release of the game to hold it back. But the entire game is getting release via 1 medium, regardless.

I hate to burst your bubble but this was posted on the Double Helix forum a few days ago:

It's the Ultratech logo on the back of Fulgore's heel.

I gotta say, the heel of your robot's shoe is a weird as hell place to put your brand logo, though.

I got to hand it to Double Helix for taking such an obscure refference in the first game and turning it into the Ultratech logo for Fulgore.

Spinal looks fantastic in that trailer. He'd def be my main for sure.

If im not mistaken I think he does play big part in the story of the KI series.

Now here's hoping his boat level makes a return, the 1 with the skeletons rowing. Think it was in Gold or KI2.

Not really...to my understanding, he's just kind of a mindless henchman the villain creates/raises from the dead. He's sort of the Baraka of the KI story. Also, I'm pretty sure the Spinal in KI1 isn't even the same one as in KI2.

Though there were hints in KI1 that Spinal is the undead version of some important character from someone's backstory, like he's Thunder's brother or something, but that was always confusing because he's also supposed to be 1000 years old.

I think something got lost in translation here. Whether Spinal's released in March or December, it's probably all the same in regards to the reveal. I was only asserting that they should have waited three more weeks, skipped the teaser, and given him a full trailer. I did say that if it the six week development time is clockwork, then a large portion of the character is already done, but I wasn't trying to assert that "there's no way Spinal can be released in December."
