It looks like some retailers are starting to ship out the day 12 Month XBL subscription, that includes the free edtion of Killer instinct and the exclusive Shadow Jago character. I just recieved mine today :

[edit]: Since the final launch character, Orchid's gameplay has been shown off. Who does everyone look to be main-ing in the game?
I'm still leaning heavily towards Thunder, but I think I'm going to look into Saberwolf/Sadira, since I like rushdown characters. I'm liking orchid as well, but I'm still iffy on how she plays. I missed a good portion of IGN's steam yesterday.

No worries. I had a feeling that's what had happened.

But to answer your question, I'm still maining Glacius. I still hate the artistic direction, but it's well-executed enough where I can see past it. More importantly, his toolset fits my style. When I heard Glacius was a zoner, I was like "are you fucking serious!" He's totally not a zoner, though. If you look at the footage, he's a low risk/reward offensive character, which is exactly what I'm looking for.

My secondary will be determined by how Spinal ends up playing. It's probably either going to be him or Orchid.

I just took that to mean that Spinal was probably the one who killed Thunder's brother Eagle in the previous KI tournament, which would go along with the fact that KI2 mentions that Thunder destroyed Spinal......Anywho, I guess this means Cinder, Combo, and Riptor are the S2 headliners.

I didn't see the newest Q&A stream, but according to the EventHubs comments, Spinal is confirmed in January the final season 1 character is confirmed for March.

Sounds plausible, but again, that came out of the Eventhub comments, so keep that in mind.

I'm dying to know what kind of playstyle Spinal is going to have.

I watched part of the steam yesterday. Both Spinal and Fulgore where confirmed as the final 2 characters. spinal is expected to be released in January and Fulgore in March. also story mode won't come until the final character is released.

So the two poster boys aren't even in the launch roster. Weak. But at least they're in the first wave.

I wouldn't go as far as to say he is a posterboy. He was on the original KI arcades, but that's about it. Orchid was on the KI2 arcades along with Tusk and Kim Wu. But Fulgore is the one who has been on every game cover.

You don't have to be on every Arcade Cabinet to be a poster boy. Spinal is one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise, and one of the first people that comes to mind when you think of KI.

You shouldn't assume what other people's brains think of.

When I think of KI, Spinal's one of the last characters I remember. He's ahead of Thunder or TJ Combo or the dumb KI2 characters...but that's about it. I even think of Cinder and Riptor before I remember Spinal exists, and they got left out in 2.

Jago, Orchid, Fulgore, and maybe Glacius are definitely the main characters/"poster boys" of the KI franchise.

It's a pretty safe assumption with his face plastered on the side of an Arcade Cabinet. But you have a point, it varies from person to person.

I've heard "He's on the side of the cabinet" as an argument in popularity contests before with various games, but I've never understood why that matters, what reason there is to take THAT of all things seriously as a measure of importance or popularity.

Johnny Cage is on the side of MK1 and he's popular, sure, but he's no Scorpion or Sub-Zero, y'know? Hell, Raiden and Liu Kang are way ahead of him too. Johnny wasn't even in MKvsDCU, a game whose roster was specifically designed to be the top ten "most iconic" characters. Some arcades, you can't even see the sides of the cabinets because they're lined up beside other cabinets. Advertising like that isn't really a valid measure IMO, it's just a throwaway thing that MIGHT be an eye catcher for some people and might not.

It's the first thing people see when they look at that game. It's the face of the game. And because it was the first thing I saw when I played I always associated KI with Spinal. Same goes for a lot of other people.

Whenever I think of KI, I always think of Fulgore and Combo. That's just me though.

The four characters I always think about when thinking of Killer Instinct is Orchid (of course), Jago, Fulgore and Glacius. Spinal never influenced me that much. But that's just my personal view. ^^
