The game went live last night. I spent a few hrs playing as Maya and really like her.

Some much welcome changes to the unlock system. Now there is 3 separate rankings. One that is character specific and will be used to unlock colors and accessories. Another that is player specific. Now the game works like a typical FPS where you earn xp for everything you do in the game. Once you earn enough xp, your player ranking goes up. You unlock titles and player cards based on your player rank. Then there is also online rank. Which seems to have zero bearing on any unlocks.

Stages no longer have to be purchased to be unlock. Which also mean shadow jago's stage is unlocked from the get go.

Whatever you purchased from the ki store in season 1 carries over, but there are no longer KI points.

Also an alternate methods to unlocking items, you can purchase ki gold for real money to spend to unlock anything earlier than it would take to earn/unlock in the game.

A bit of a breakdown of Maya's major moves.

Her projectile attack is her throwing her daggers. It can be done in air as well. If the opponent blocks her daggers, they power up, and once they've powered up they gain new abilities. Normally you need to roll, do a special move or input all 3 punches while standing over them to pick them up, but when they are powered up they actually will ricochet and return to her.

She has a backflip, as well as her upward kick. Similar to Sonya's bicycle kick. She also has a leaping air attack where she leeps forward and tackles the opponent. It's essentially a dive kick move, similar to Kunk Lao, command for it is down+HP.

Last, she has a double dash, that is a forward roll. It allows her to get under projectiles, similar to Sabrewolf's hamstring move. But since it's a double dash, it's actually a command normal, and in addition she can cancel it into a neutral jump. Meaning she go from a roll, to neutral jump into her leap attack and cover a huge amount of distance. Her leap attack covers half the screen as it is.

This game is hella frustrating to learn how to play. I have for sure taken MK and Injustice for granted for how accessible they are to beginners. Dojo mode is a God send but I'm even struggling my balls off in that and find it a little annoying that dojo mode is basically a guide to how to play Jago exclusively. At this point i feel like the game is a gigantic cock tease because it looks insanely fun once you get the hang of it but getting the hang of it will take a very long time.

I know this is a scrubby ass post and a crazy question to ask for a killer instinct game, but could anybody be a sweet little darling and post like a generic/basic and most importantly practical Spinal or TJ Combo combo? Just something I can start with and then branch out from. Like I know the basic format is Opener-auto-linker-auto-ender but I just feel overwhelmed by this game I guess. How the fuck do I open somebody up as TJ Combo and since he has just under a thousand special moves with 3 different version each what do I typically start a combo with? Like in Injustice with Lex Luther I'd have my low or overhead starter into meter burned gravity pull and then things could get funky but I always started my combos the same way. I feel semi ridiculous for posting this so if any of you guys can throw me a bone that would be awesome.

Coming from strictly a MK9 and Injustice background with their sweet cake like dial a combo system I feel like a crazy person going into this game. I feel like Helen Keller if suddenly all her senses just clicked on in the middle of a Slayer concert. Beer and chimp like confusion wrote this post.

Before I go into the other stuff, I just wanna say that you're not alone in this. No game has execution that feels anything like KI. I remember playing the game for the first time at the Microsoft store and just feeling like my last 20 years of fighting games didn't even matter.

I worked through it, though. I'm now at the point where I'm more excited for the next KI characters then I am for MKX.

Man, you picked two of the hardest characters in the game to play, lol. My primary advice is to pick your favorite of the two. If you try to learn both, you may get overwhelmed. The community unanimously believes Spinal is the hardest character to use in the game.

As a general strategy, I'd pick your favorite as your main and someone easier as your secondary. Jago and Sabrewulf are the obvious picks, but even Glacius is not that bad, IMO. I don't know why everyone thinks he's so awkward. Just F+MP and Jump+HK all day while moving backwards and use hail in the neutral game. Use shatter for traps and to keep your opponent honest from afar. That's it. Everything else is icing.

To answer your question, I'll try to record something Tuesday night for TJ Combo and Spinal. Till then, the only advice I have for Combo is to get comfortable with his midrange setups. Have a mental list of options when you're half screen and use your best judgment based on what the opponent has done thus far. (DarksydeGeoff just released a really good video for TJ, btw. I'd also like to add that TJ is one of the harder characters to learn because of the new season 2 mechanic he introduces, air recapture. Plus there is no updated dojo mode lesson that covers it. I swear as conformable as I was with season 1, I feel like a complete noob playing him and the game in general since aerial recapture was introduced. It also doesn't help that a handful of TJ's moves from powerline act as baits or cancels when done on their own.

Wow man thank you for getting back to me, very much appreciated. And I am bummed to hear Spinal is the hardest to use, just my luck haha. To me he is the coolest looking character in the game but I will put him back on the shelf for now until I can get a handle on this game. As far as having someone easier as a secondary I've been playing only Jago since I got the game and have spent over 2 hours in training mode with him just trying to practice getting the hang of combo's and the basic set ups I learned in dojo mode (like sweep into a cross up). This game is weird though because I have the feeling I'm gonna be hella predictable with my combos because I'm so use to playing MK and Injustice where you learn your bnb's down to a reflex. Like I'm trying to switch up my autos on the fly but I have a bad habit of using the heavy linker (holding LP or MP so he does the sword swipe move like 3 times) to give myself a second to think and plan my next auto or how I wanna end the combo. Not sure what people typically look for when breaking or if they'll just notice my pattern or what.

For TJ Combo I guess I'll start trying to practice using his superman punch overhead opener more since that video you posted was hypin it up like crazy lol. I still feel all over the place with him though since I don't have dojo mode to kinda organize him out for me. I've only played a little bit of Glacius and do not yet know much about him. He looks fun to play as well though and so does pretty much every character in this game lol. I never see anybody play Fulgore though which is weird because I thought he was like the Scorpion of these games? Also if you wanna help me out by recording stuff for TJ Combo and Spinal that would be extremely helpful.

@Kabal20 I do not know what air recapture is but it sounds complicated and intimidating haha. I noticed it when going through TJ's moveset but do not understand what it meant. Is it kinda like air throws in MK9 only not a throw and starts a combo?? Like is it used to beat out jump ins from the air?

If you juggle an opponent, you can do a move that causes a knock down, it brings your opponent back to the ground and will basically reset your combo animation to allow you to continue your combo on the ground again.

The problem is, not all moves work as a air recapture. TJ's tremor move works as a recapture.

The basic I've figured out so far is you can do TJ's shoot toss (away, forward+MP) into tremor (down-up+kick) as a combo opener, then auto double, linker, etc.

Also watching Maxamillian's Maya ultra video, now you can use air recapture to link multiple ultras and combos together, without having to instinct cancel.

I feel like I have no time for KI or the majority of games I just picked up. I've been tied up playing destiny still. Still haven't gotten into Halo: Master chief collection and just picked up Smash Bro. Wii-U sad. Hopefully this holiday I'll have some more time to catch up.

Can somebody tell me why this is even a thing that was made? I never hear anybody talk about this game ever anywhere except here first time I have seen it.

I am kinda shocked at how horrible this game is. I bought a sunset overdrive white xbox and decided to play it after I was done with sunset and halo. it's god awful and almost unplayable. it is more buggy than the xb1 halo collection onlne is. Nobody seems to play it online it is always dead. I find that odd for a game you can play for free. I would not want to pay for it now but I will play it free.

The game locks up all the time buggy as hell and it is one of the worst looking fighting games I have ever seen mortal kombat 9 and injustice on xbox 360 blows it out of the water. I hope MKX does not look like this game on the xbox I could have saved money and kept a xbox 360.

Some of the characters look like bad Street fighter and Shaq fu fan art, it is really bad. The wolf guy is the worst he looks like a rat and the ice dude looks like a bad halo alien now.

Just not fun to play has less to do than a old mortal kombat game. I quit when it erased my settings.

I used to play the arcade machine of this next to the MK2 machine at the arcade and it was never this bad it was a good time back then. Microsoft should not make fighting games I guess I do not know how they screwed it up or why they would put a game out like this.

I could not even get my friends who had it on n64 to play it with me at halo lan parties they want to play MK injustice or ultra street fighter, smash bros wii u 3ds .sleepsleepconfused

Downloaded the free version the other day. Very interesting so far. I've been mainly in the training modes trying to wrap my head around the mechanics. This game strikes me as a rhythm game trapped in a fighting game shell. I like it so far, but as Temp said, its very different than any other fighter I've ever played. Can't wait to get the other characters when I get a little extra money together.

Started playing with Riptor and she's a lot of fun. Lot of moves though, like a shit ton of moves. Love her stage as well, but the music doesn't do it for me.

Wish they'd release Cinder already...

The little time I've spent with some of the newer characters and I feel Riptor is by far my favorite. She seems really strong. Very versatile with a number of great tools and I love her animations. I feel out of the entire cast, both Season 1 & 2, Riptor easily has the best and most fluid animation.

Are you talking training or Dojo mode? I feel Dojo mode is extremely well done. After playing through KI's dojo mode, i actually went back to Street Fighter 4 and I feel KI's dojo mode help me get a better grasp of Street Fighter's mechanics more. Definitely helped with my understanding of recovery frames and links in SF.

It's actually very well done and offers advice that applies to a number of Fighting games in general. Not just KI or Street Fighter.

- Killer Instinct Gets a Bonus Fighter, Omen

Killer Instinct announced the fifth fighter joining the game during Season 2, Omen, Herald of Gargos.

Omen will be a bonus character, meaning he's not one of the eight characters you'd normally get with the season. At the moment, he's only available to those who bought the Season 2 pack, and Microsoft said it has no plans to sell him individually.

"His moveset has some familiar normals from Jago, some new ones, and his specials are either all-new or ones that only the boss version of Shadow Jago used," Microsoft Studios Creative Director Adam Isgreen said on the game's official forums.

He added that we'll learn more about the character next week, and if previous characters are any indication, we'll probably get a proper look at Omen next week with a trailer.

Omen's gameplay is pretty nuts. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the higher skilled players do with it online.
