So, we know which ones came first right? (Law and Order 1990)
So, do you think Law and Order, Oz, and or The Wire, affected the creation of Dexter?....Any other Staple series'?
I mean the idealism of it? How it came about and all that. Do you believe that in order for the latest "big" show to come about, that there had to be one that came before it first?
Quick opinions, Quick thread here....
Me and my cousin have "differences" right now. lol

Law & Order I've been a fan since the beginning.
R.I.P. Jerry Orbach aka Detective Lennie Briscoe
Love Dexter. My friend got me into that show. I've read the Jeff Lindsay novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter", and half of "Dearly Devoted Dexter"

I love Law and Order! I haven't seen any of the other TV shows mentioned cuz I don't usually watch TV... but whenever L&O is on I always keep it on and watch the whole show.

Law & Order reigns over the others in my opinion, though I haven't watched Dexter. It's longevity hasn't been matched by any other drama and I don't think it will in the near or even foreseeable future. However, let's see how many more days Jack Bauer has to go.
In recent years there have been I think four spin off's with only two having lasting power. I think this is a credit to the writing. However, one problem has been the writing. A lot of the stores have been "ripped from the headlines" inspired one's and I've gotten tired of them in the sense that they've gotten too predictable. The Mel Gibson inspired episode w/ Chevy Chase for example.
I think the flag ship has done alright for the most part, but has become stagnant. I love Criminal Intent simply because of D'onofrio's way of solving cases and use of psychology. The fact that his personal issues have been put into episodes showing his frailty rounds him out more which makes him an interesting character to follow. I have no idea why they brought Noth back and split up CI in to two different detective teams. I can only stand him in doses before his familiar act gets tiresome.
Now SVU has been that unexpected gem that's helped keep the flagship relevant, I think. They've had so many great episodes and the acting has been stellar. I like how they added Adam Beech to the cast and I hope they get to use him as they should. But.... what happened to Munch?
I watched the first two episodes of the new season and I'm impressed to see the direction the writing is going. There's a new and familiar D.A. and a brand new A.D.A. played by British actor Linus Roache. Is it just me or are more British actors getting acting gigs partially cause they can pull off American accents, specifically N.Y. accents? He was in "Find Me Guilty" w/ Vin Diesel and did a good job. I think it's due to that role he got this job for L&O. I can't wait to see how his character progresses.
