MK is probably going to be the same way with the Retro DLC's already being on the disc. So are you not going to buy that either? Just buy the game. There is enough content already unlocked on the disc to have more than enough fun until Mortal Kombat comes out anyway.
You can complain about the content already being on the disc all you want, but this is not the first game that has done that. Did you know that in Castle Crashers the "King Pack" and "Necromancer Pack" was already on the download of the game and people paid Microsoft Points/PSN cash just to download a KB FILE for the code to unlock those things. It was worth it though because the characters were decent enough to be worthy of paying for. I'm sure if you are mad enough to not buy a game because two characters are not available to you, they must mean enough to you that if they weren't on the disc you WOULD pay for them so just pay for them anyway.

I don't get it. What's so wrong with doing that? All it does is make the purchase and installation of the DLC content way faster. Seems like a completely ridiculous thing to complain about, would you rather the content NOT be on the game and you'd have to pay for it ANYWAY, only it would take longer to install?

I think he would rather it be free. Which it should be. If I bought a music CD and had to pay extra money to access tracks 4, 7, and 12, that would be messed up. Or better yet, if I bought a Snickers bar, but had to pay extra to access the peanuts.
The whole point of DLC should be to sell fans EXTRA content, not content they already own.

Just a reminder, guys. If you haven't done so already, vote for who you want to see for DLC. If you haven't signed up for Capcom Unity, be warned that their confirmation email often gets caught in spam filters. If you don't get the email soon after registering, don't forget to check that.
Finally, follow the rules. Don't get your post deleted over something stupid. Also don't forget to vote for Psylocke. :P

It IS an extra you're paying for... The fact that the characters are already in the disc means nothing.
If you guys can't see the logic behind it, I feel sorry for you. You're letting something irrelevant bother you.

First of all... the above isn't a counter-argument. You made no attempt to explain why it's okay to buy content you already have.
Second of all, that just doesn't make any sense. You have the software. You physically own a disc with the content on it. You're buying a sofware key to unlock shit that you physically own. Would you buy a house and then pay extra to have other doors to other rooms unlocked? That makes no sense!

Marvel Pack

I know 10/8 per pack is not going to happen but they can always split it up and make several packs.

There is a natural expectation for a consumer to have full access to the product they pay for. The DLC material was produced for and released as part of content on the disc. Obviously Capcom are well within their rights to determine the parameters of their content, but it's perfectly reasonable for consumers to perceive this tactic as an after-the-fact attempt at profiteering and a denial of the broad expectations of the product market.
Granted, Capcom did not create reasonable expectation that this spceific material would be available upon immediate purchase, but that does not negate the fact that it is content in the possesion of anyone who bought the disc. Content that could've been made freely as part of the basic product, but is denied to the owner by an arbitrary stop. You might be confusing the former fact as a reasonable argument, but it is in no way an unimpeachable rebuttle to consumers who feel cheated. The house/rooms analogy really should be enough to make it clear.
Consumers want the maximum available content for the best price.
Withholding content on the disc should be perceived as an antagonising strategy. The only distinction between this "DLC" and content available on the day is an additional price tag. It isn't extra material if it's already on the disc. It's not our job to be accomodating to the provider.

I'd really REALLY hope for Emma... I think the psychic/diamond forms duality would b a lot of fun!!! She could start the diamond form that gives an x-factor like bonus, no flinching, super strength and stamina, but she cant use any of her specials or enhanced moves.
And the telepathy could b a lot of fun... I was thinking traps would work amazing, but Jean and Trish covered that, but she could do confuse moves, and I'm sure the boys at capcom would have great ideas on what to do w her.
And if they where saving her for a DLC that would explain how her name went back and forth so much yet she was one of the first to b said to not b in the starting lineup...
yeah... fanboy fantasies... dont take those away from me

Wow...I was so ready to buy the game, but, after reading all the negative facts about Capcom's sucky/insulting/cheating strategies towards their costumers and fans, I will definitely wait till its worth less.
Everyone out there makes it sound like the game is incomplete, short, and lacking severely content that should have made the final cut, not as DLC. Can anyone else confirm this, please?
I hera the gameplay is fun, but:
Can anyone tell me if the game is really worth the +$60?
Does the game feel incomplete? Like, lack of arenas, lack of extra content, lack of modes, etc that should have been there already?
Am I better off waiting a few more months for a cheaper used copy?
I will definitely not be buying DLC for this one.
Looks like a fun game though, so, I want to give it a shot (STORM!!!!).

i find the game to be great and addictive as hell. i do think marvel vs capcom 2 is the best in the series because of the huge roster though. marvel vs capcom 3 is the easiest in the vs series to pick up and play and the graphics are gorgeous in this game. the beserk or rage feature is neat and can actually change the tide of battle unlike tekken 6 rage mode.
so far the only modes i have played are vs,training. i do not own this game but have played it for a few hours at gamestop with a friend. played it on the ps3 and think the control scheme is better on the ps3 than it is on the 360.
i did hear there are problems online but capcom will have it fixed within a few weeks. servers are crashing and people are losing there connection fo the sheer amount of players.
i would gladly buy this game if i had a current gen systom but i will agree that dlc for this game is cheap. and some dlc attires look plain crappy.
i did wish there were more arena's to choose from also but some of my favs are daily bugle, asgard, and the darkstalkers level.
my best teams are
1.Morrigan/Felicia/Hsien Ko
2.Ryu/Hulk/Spiderman
3.Wesker/Sentinel/Zero
honorable mention characters.
Chris
Dante
Trish
Chun-Li
Arthur
Akuma
X-23
characters i thought i'd like but sucked.
Magneto
Deadpool
i did not play all the characters but i did play more than half of the roster experimenting with different assists and various teams. the game is very balenced and did find ways to beat various spammers who like to throw projectiles the entire time along with people who like to spam teleport moves. also found some ways to eliminate players who like to rush and even defend just to lay out a super.
can't wait to play it again. me and my friend will go to gamestop on his day off and play the shit out of this game.
next time i play it i will play the rest of the cast and will let you know what the rest of the game is.

The game is worth $60. Not the $70 for the CE because the "Free DLC" that comes with it is not early access to the characters, it is just that when they come out in a month you get them for free. I was supposed to get that version but when the gamestop in my mall closed, my pre order was transfered to the one across the street from the mall (i know... across the street) and they messed it up to a normal version. I am glad about that now.
The game does not feel incomplete. It is basically MvC2 with a new fighting system and a bit smaller roster. The levels look good so I don't mind having not 50million of them. People bitch and moan about the Jill & Shuma being on the disc thing, but you can read my post where I quoted Garlador to figure out about that. Game modes? I don't think there is anything they could have done but didn't, unless you wanted to see 2v2 and 1v1's, instead of 3v3.
I would suggest buying it now since in a few months you will be playing Mortal Kombat, and WE ALL KNOW you won't get off of a game with Sonya to go play MVC3

I've played the game at a friend's very thoroughly. Everything is opinion, but I personally am going to wait. I DO feel the game is incomplete and rough around the edges. And here's why:
- Locked characters: I'll get this out of the way first, 'cause I already mentioned it. Both Jill and Shuma-Gorath are already on the game, but Capcom is charging most users more for the right to play as them. Fighting games thrive on their rosters, and intentionally blocking two characters, putting them on the disc, and then outright claiming "we know you want them, but you'll have to wait a month to play as them and pay us a premium because they're "beyond the scope of the original game"" strikes me as shady, underhanded, greedy, manipulative, and ultimately leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Again, hackers are already playing as Jill and Shuma for free, but legit customers will be exploited for that right.
- Locked outfits: Like Street Fighter IV, a large portion of characters are getting costume packs, in many cases of their classic or most popular costumes, and like Street Fighter IV, they're on the disc too at $5 per pack of 4. Costumes are superficial, and I can live without them, but it still sucks that they're right there on the game disc for hackers to play with for free while legit customers will have to pay an additional $25+ to access.
- Missing modes: Honestly, MvC3 is very bare-bones. Capcom has hinted that several modes they "didn't have time to include" are coming out... for a price. "Shadow Mode", fighting against developer AI, is already announced, but other classic fighting game modes like Survival, Time Attack, and even basic vs. CPU modes aren't in the game. Compared to even MOST fighting games, the variety is blatantly lacking. Do you want anything more than Arcade, ranked and unranked? Too bad. That's it. Online is as bare-bones as it gets.
- No Story Mode: This was a bold-faced lie many of us were told. I still have the interview with the creators talking about how amazing their story mode was going to be (Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be a "living comic" with a Deep Story). Well, they must have scrapped all those plans, because story-mode is non-existent, unless you count the comic that only comes with the limited supply Special Edition of the game. Endings were just some non-voiced still images with some text. There simply IS no story... and rumors are suggesting that Capcom may add a story mode to the game.... as DLC for a price, of course.
- Broken online: MANY people are having online problems with the game. This is the only thing Capcom themselves has acknowledged and said they are working to fix. Until then, though, you're going to be waiting for matches and losing connection very frequently.
- No Spectator mode: Do you like watching other people fight while you wait your turn in the lobbies? Or would you rather sit there and watch two cards hump each other. The lack of a spectator mode is something so many people are baffled they didn't include that I wouldn't be surprised if that was patched in later.
- Training mode underwhelms: While I'm glad there is a training mode, the game's training mode is a bit underwhelming, only really showing what buttons to push, but never when to push them (and that damn teeny-tiny unreadable font makes a return for SDTV users). Honestly, "Mission" mode is best for learning a few effective moves and then button-mashing the rest. Which takes me to...
- Unbalanced Gameplay: While complex combos and strategies exist, MvC3 is one of the few games where casuals can easily defeat more experienced players with the right roster and characters (here's looking at you, Sentinel). Right now, the game is just very unbalanced. People made fun of MK games when, weeks after the fact, infinites were discovered. Well, there are already dozens of videos of infinites in MvC3 in the first few days alone. Some people told me "infinites are part of the fun"... but I have yet to have fun when I lose a match against somebody just because they hit me first. I'd wait for some balancing patches.
- More DLC characters on the horizon: While Jill & Shuma are on the disc, data hackers discovered Frank West and Doctor Octopus have residual data there prepping the game for DLC. That, and Capcom has asked people to submit their ideas for their top 3 DLC characters. If that's the case, that's at least 4 characters for both Marvel and Capcom, and 8 characters total that they may ultimately add to the roster. DLC certainly would ensure we get the characters we wanted the FIRST time (Strider, Venom, Mega Man, Phoenix Wright, etc.), but if nearly 20% of the cast is DLC, I'd wait for some "special edition" of the game to come out and include the COMPLETE roster, rather than pay $5-10 per character (because you know they wouldn't charge less, and that'd be at least a $40 price hike).
- Only 8 stages. Do you think for a second they won't release more as DLC? The original Mortal Kombat came with 7 stages... and twenty years later, a measly 8 stages seems staggeringly low. I think people are gonna tired of the ones they have very quickly.
MvC3 is fun. Make no mistake about that. The visual style is unique, the characters that are in the game play well and are often quirky, and its sheer existence is celebrated... but MvC3 is still in many ways inferior to MvC2 and many other fighting games. It's either missing or withholding modes, characters, stages, costumes, story, variety, balancing and netcode patches, and more. While the basic game IS fun, I'd in no way ever suggest someone pay full-price for it. In terms of content, it greatly pales before the scope and variety present in Blazblue, prior Mortal Kombat games, Tekken, Dead or Alive, and others. Even Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix has more content, variety, stages, extras, and options.
If it was at budget price of $30-40, I might recommend it. But for a full-priced game? I don't think it's worth it. Yes, it is fun, and for many that'll be all that matters, but if you want and demand more than the most basic of modes and online, I'd wait. Knowing Capcom and their habit of re-releasing games with all the characters and content fans INITIALLY wanted later on is a strategy my gut tells me they'll implement again. It depends on how much patience you have, I guess, and how much you want to see the epic battle between M.O.D.O.K. and Crimson Viper go down.
For my money, I'll wait and see just how much stuff gets added/unlocked before I'd commit to the game. I'm hearing mixed things, from people that love it to people that outright hate it, and I'd probably wind up in the middle, enjoying it but also feeling disappointed and growing bored at the lack of variety. I'm disappointed already from the little I've played (I don't HATE it... just disappointed).
That, and Mortal Kombat is on the horizon. I'm confident once that arrives, my fighting game itch will be more satisfyingly scratched.
