Well, I looked up Beat the Blade, and I decided that the question of the week gimmick is a good idea. I'll make the QOTWs simple in the preseason, and on Kickoff Sunday the 10 point question will be "Who wins Super Bowl XLI?"
For all other weeks, the QOTWs will be worth 3 points and will count towards the weekly total.
i say leave it the same format. honor blade with it. should be done like it was
Alright, I'll make you a deal. I add the preseason games, the weekly DP prizes, and the point spreads in the regular season, and I'll keep everything else the way Blade had it, such as the bonus points for the featured games, the QOTWs, and the like (if you want, you can help me out).
We still have quite a while to decide this, so we can talk all we want about it for now before finalizing things.

i'll help run it. personally, i'd rather not see pre-season and no spread but simple like blades like the matches and you pick the winner and keep a record. and whoever has the highest record wins some dp's. you'd have to talk it over with crow with the dp distribution though. maybe have the grand prize be rank up. or if you get the super bowl right. but i'll help

I already have the DP distribution lined up. I'll keep pre-season but eliminate spreads. IMO the pre-season will be more unpredictable than the regular season with players not playing the entire game. However, I'm going to keep the point total tiebreakers and weekly prizes.
10 points for Week 1 question, 4 points (also with a bonus) for all others if I'm not mistaken?

Buffalo:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: Willis McGahee. This guy is a do-it-all back in a division where the running backs are not exactly breathtaking. If the Bills decide to play smashmouth football and give Willis 25-30 carries a game, I can see them with a shot at the playoffs this year.
Why they won't: Too many questions everywhere else and the Dolphins are much improved this season. The Bills are still a year away in my book.
Where they'll finish: Last, or tied for third with the Jets. I'm undecided.
Miami:
Why they'll win the division: Take the already solid offense, and add Daunte Culpepper. Give Ronnie Brown a full season without distractions, and the Dolphins offense is looking very, very good. Olindo Mare will have another solid year on field goals.
Why they won't: The defense is aging, and fast. These guys just aren't what they used to be anymore, but can definitely still get the job done.
Where they'll finish: Second, however I feel that they have a real shot at a wild card this year, and I won't be surprised at all if they get it.
New England:
Why they'll win the division: Tom Brady and Co. haven't lost a step from 2005, but they have lost their big leg. Vinatieri may be gone, but the Patriots can get by without him, just watch. The offense and defense will still be fine, and Belichick will have this team playing great football.
Why they won't: Actually, I have no reason here. The Pats will cruise to another East title.
Where they'll finish: Deep in the playoffs. Another Super Bowl appearance? Possibly, but without Vinatieri they won't win it.
N.Y. Jets:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: Well, the offense isn't so bad with Curtis Martin and Laveranues Coles on the offense, and my goodness, the Jets finally have a defense. Kimo von Oelhoffen will have the daunting task of replacing John Abraham and Ray Mickens returns for another stint with Gang Green along with Andre Dyson to shore up the weak secondary.
Why they won't: Well, they're the Jets. They'll still get burned on more big plays than anyone else, and they won't be able to get the big 3rd down stops or convert them on offense. The QB situation is up in the air with Pennington, Ramsey, and Bollinger all vying for the spot. The loss of Abraham will mean that Shaun Ellis has to pick it up.
Where they'll finish: Either in third or tied for third with Buffalo, my Jets are still a year away from being big players again.
San Francisco:
Why they won't contend for anything: Because they have lost their best receiver, didn't improve anything in the offseason, and if they're expecting rookies to save them, well... Here's hoping they win 4 games again this year.
Where they'll finish: With the #1 draft pick. I have changed my mind, the Niners are the worst team in football... again.
I hate you.

AFC North:
Baltimore:
Why they'll win the division: Steve McNair will take this offense to a completely different level with his dynamic play on the field. Kyle Boller appears to be trade bait now (49ers, maybe?), so the Ravens can finally move on with a competent QB. Now, all they need is a gamebreaker receiver (Todd Heap doesn't count).
Why they won't: Basically because of the problems mentioned above. Pretty much everything else is fine with this team, however maybe the front three needs improvement (if I'm not mistaken, the Ravens run a 3-4). Also, someone among the receivers needs to step up and have a big season.
Where they'll finish: Third, but in contention for a playoff spot in Week 17.
Cincinnati:
Why they'll win the division: Carson Palmer appears to be recovering quickly from his torn ACL (which was a blatant cheap shot IMO) and Rudi Johnson had a breakout year in 2005. The receivers are all back and Chad Johnson's mouth is still moving.
Why they won't: The defense is still shaky IMO. They had a hard time stopping people last year and it's a wonder that they won that division. This year, they can't expect to win games by simply outscoring people. The defense will have to step it up.
Where they'll finish: Most likely second, and I can see these guys back in the playoffs this year. Rematch with the Steelers, perhaps?
Cleveland:
Why they won't contend for anything: Maybe the Dawg Pound should play and the Browns should watch, they might have more success that way. It's funny, I had to look up that Charlie Frye is starting for them this year. I had no idea who the QB was. The only significant addition they made was Joe Jurevicius, but last season he had almost half the passes thrown to him.
Where they'll finish: "With the third pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select..."
Pittsburgh:
Why they'll win the division: They're the freakin defending champs. They're not going away anytime soon. Roethlisberger will be even better than last year, sans broken bones, and I think without Bettis the Steelers will be more willing to air it out. The defense is still solid and the special teams are intact.
Why they won't: Without Polamalu, who's going to be the killer on their defense? Certainly not Joey Porter, his bark is way worse than his bite. Also, will they run in short yardage situations without Bettis? Finally, losing Randle El means no more gamebreaker on punt returns.
Where they'll finish: Either the AFC title game against Kansas City or Super Bowl XLI against Carolina. Side note: Anybody else find it funny that they let Plaxico Burress go, which everyone thought was dumb, and then won the Super Bowl?
Now on D, they added one of the greatest Lb's in history to there team, In willie Mcginnist, drafted two great linebacks D"qwell Jackson, and Kamerion Wimbley, and still have pro bowl linebacker Andra Davis.
With Orpheous Roye still there, and added veteran Ted washington at nose tackle, this is going to be a great front 7.
THey still have Gary Baxter at db who played great last year, and daylon mchutechon, but the secondary is the only place that worries me for cleveland. But Romeo Crennel has put together a great team.
Last year with less the guys they added in Free Agency, they were 7-9, add everything they've done and I can see them going 10-6, 9-7 and barely missing out. There are far worse teams than this, Green Bay, Detroit, San Francisco, Oakland, and Buffalo to name a few.

wat bout this i'll take votes between yahoo espn or nfl.com if you perfer more then one site then thats fine what ever site or sites get 10 or more i will start a leauge on if all 3 get 10 or more then i will put a leauge on all of them. if you want to join all 3 then thats fine we still have a few months until fantsey begins but i will end voting on aug 21st this way we can have the drafts before the rush where everyone is rushing to start a leauge.

Houston:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: They can now stop the run and get a decent pass rush with Mario WIlliams, although that's about the only improvement to their team. They didn't need Reggie Bush all that badly anyway, given that they have Domanick Davis.
Why they won't: BUT... you don't pass up that kind of talent. And besides, this is the same old Texans offense, with the same line that puts David Carr's life insurance to work every season with all the hits he takes. Carr can't win games from his ass.
Where they'll finish: They're improved, and I think they can finish third here.
Indianapolis:
Why they'll win the division: Peyton Manning is the new Dan Marino. Why? The Colts are going to passing about as much as the Eagles were last season, and Manning won't win the Super Bowl this year. All kidding aside, the Ponies have the best receivers in the AFC, and that means trouble for the pass-happy conference.
Why they won't: The Jaguars keep getting better and better, and without Edgerrin James in the backfield I think this is the year that Jacksonville finally breaks through.
Where they'll finish: Tied for first. They'll win a playoff game along the way, but mark my words, the Colts will be kept out of the Super Bowl again, even with the magic foot of Adam Vinatieri.
Jacksonville:
Why they'll win the division: Everyone is back from one of the best offenses in football (well, except Jimmy Smith, but they'll be fine without him), and with the Colts vulnerable and one-dimensional this year, the Jaguars may finally get the South division title.
Why they won't: No real reasons. They've replaced Jimmy Smith, the defense is still great and Fred Taylor is healthy... so we think.
Where they'll finish: Tied for first, and hopefully they don't get owned by New England again in the first round. The Jags will go deep into the playoffs.
Tennessee:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: As much of a mess as this team is, the receivers are good enough to make big plays and the defense is improved with Chris Hope and David Thornton added. Also, the Titans had a great draft that saw them bring in Vince Young AND LenDale White. If they hold on to those two, they will have a good tandem for years to come.
Why they won't: Your starting options at QB: Vince Young, Billy Volek, or Matt Mauck. I'd hand it to Volek, who at least has some experience. Also, can Chris Brown prove he can carry the load?
Where they'll finish: This team is still probably two years away. Last place until they can prove me wrong.

AFC West:
Denver:
Why they'll win the division: Tatum Bell can now assume the tailback role on his own and not have to look over his shoulder for Mike Anderson replacing him. Jake Plummer is back in the saddle for another year with a very goor receiving corps and an excellent offensive line.
Why they won't: Plummer is known for making mistakes as opposed to winning big games. He did it in Arizona, he did it in Denver until last season. Can he sustain his success?
Where they'll finish: Second, with the #5 seed in the AFC.
Kansas City:
Why they'll win the division: They have all the pieces to win the Super Bowl this season, they just have to put it together. Trent Green and Larry Johnson are prepared to put lots of crooked numbers on the scoreboards around the NFL this year, and the defense is looking very tough.
Why they won't: This is probably the most talented team in the AFC, but they are still inexperienced when it comes to big games. KC is going to have to beat some good teams on the road if they want to go deep into the playoffs.
Where they'll finish: First, and they'll wind up with home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs IMO.
Oakland:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: Art Shell is a good coach. The AFC's Dennis Green will have the Raiders contending this year, and if they should fall out of it they'll be an excellent spoiler game. The Black Hole has reason to be excited again.
Why they won't: This is a poor team talent-wise, and very old, save for Lamont Jordan. Teams will be able to key in on Randy Moss because he is the only viable option in that offense.
Where they'll finish: Last, but they will compete in this division.
San Diego:
Why they'll contend for a wild card: LaDanian Tomlinson is on this team, and any team he plays for will instantly be a competitor. The league's #1 run defense is back and looking to repeat and defend their title. Antonio Gates will be a huge option again for the passing game.
Why they won't: If Philip Rivers gets off to a slow start, the Chargers may have to throw in the towel early against a tough schedule. They may wind up like the Ravens with Boller, having to rely on Tomlinson to produce nearly everything.
Where they'll finish: Third, and I think they'll be there at the end of the regular season.

As we all know this division has been ruled by new england the past few years and last year they surprisingly only won the division by 1 game over miami who won their last 6 games of the season. This year people have miami as a team who can advance far in the playoffs. Alittle to much in my opinion but its justifed as they made moves in the offseason. The jets and bills look to be the bottom feeders of the division but its this is clear. New england won't dominate this division this year.
Breakdowns of teams opposite of last years rankings
NY Jets: Really one of the worst teams last year. The jets offence was 4th worst in the nfl last year. Chad was injured again. Just nothing was right for this team. The jets d was ok as it was 12th in YPG and 23rd in PPG. This team over the past 2 years lost an oline which was really good now with a new coach who learned under belechick he has done one good thing. Rebuild the oline. Which lost Kevin Mcawe to tennessee. Between the draft and FA they have gotten 4 olinemen. Curtis martin was injuried for some part of the season 2 years ago he lead the NFL in rushing. Even though hes getting old i expect him to come back a stronger runner. They still have no recieving core and questions at qb who will start. It can be pennington ramsey or bollinger maybe even the qb from clemson they got in the draft. I personally think ramsey will start the season. The d has lost its anchor DE John Abraham who went to Alanta. They really didn't do anything to improve their defence who basically had to play with bad feild position for them becuase of the crappyness of the jets offence last year. My predicition the offence will struggle to score again. The D will be decent but be overshadowed by a crappy offence. I see them with 4-12 season just because they have an really easy schedule and last in the division again but don't wrry jet fans i can see this team as in a buliding season planning for the future and bufflo will either finish with the same record or a win or 2 better.
Buffalo: Wow last year i thought they will have a great deffence but it was the opposite it sucked i mean really sucked. After being in the top 5 2 seasons ago they were ranked they were 4th last in YPG and and 24th in PPG. Now they lost 2 of their anchors in Milloy and Adams. There offence was nothign special either. It just was a terrible season for these bills. This year the offence got periceless price back they had alot of quality signings nothing great but good quality signings. There draft was one of the worst i really think they messed up their first pick and it just trickled down the rest of the draft for them. My prediction They will be better but not good enough to compete. An easy schedule will help them finish one game better then last year at 6-10.
Miami: A team that finish just as hot as their temperture in a summer day miami they finished 6-0 and now they are the hot pick to rise in the AFC. Miami didn't really do nothing in the offseason besides getting dantue clupepper from minnosota and switch corners with the giants (sam madision went to ny and will allen went to miami). Young Ronnie Brown is going to have to carry the load all season. They still have a good reciver TE combo in Mc Micheal and Chambers. This will be a good offence. They have a decent d but they lost a few key players including junior seau but there D should be solid. Prediction for miami is there are not going to make the playoff this year but will have another good season. There schedule is farily easy they will finish either 9-7 again or 10-6 but won't win the division or wild card because 11-5 is going to be the standard for the wild card this year.
New England: I won't question bill belecheck i wouldnt' be surprised if new enland had a down year but i don't think they will. They lost 10 players to free agency including willie mcgunist to the browns. But they restocked and now have a potentional #1 reciever in Chad Jackson from Florida who many considered the best in the draft and they got a minnosota rb in the draft. Tom Brady is one of the best qb's in the leauge and they still work from the line up and both offensive and defensive lines are solid. They don't have Vinnateri any more. There defence other places were bad there were suprising bad on defence besides the line and they done not much to improve their defence. My predicition They will win this division because it isn't that good. But barly like last year they will win by one game. There schedule is easy this year Brady will be a canidate for MVP he must be otherwise this team won't make the playoffs. There d like last year will hold up just enough. record 11-5 and 4th seed.
Why and Why nots?
NY Jets:
Why will NY Jets compete for anything?
Skip this question next
Why they won't compete for anything?
They have a medicore offence and defence is not good enough to carry them. hey even the baltimore defence that won the superbowl couldn't carry an offence like this. I do like the direction the jets are heading though this will be a rebuiilding year.
Buffalo:
Why they will compete for something?
Umm again no reason lol.
Why they won't compete for anything?
They lost their only good defensive players and still don't have an offensive Mcgahee won't carry them hes not good enough to do that. Passing offence is just full of slot recievers no deep threat and Price won't return to his glory days. Did i mention the qb has no skills lol.
Miami:
Whey they have a slight chance of winning the division and making the playoffs?
New england is no where as good enough as it has been during the super bowl years. Miami seems to be on the upside while new england is going down but if everything is right for miami there offence will be good and the defence will play well enough just to bring miami to a divison title, plus an easy schedule.
Why they won't win the division or make the playoffs:
There defence has gotten worst from last season. They lost alot of key players. Who knows how dante culpepper will fare in this season will he be the 2 years ago culpepper or the last year culpepper befor his injuryi. They won't have a 2 back system because of ricky's suspension so Brown will have to carry the load and new england will barly beat them out.
New England:
Why they will win the division:
They are still the patriots. Only miami has a chance to even come close to them. They have lost alot of players but they did this before and still played well. Brady will have an MVP type season and his new #1 reciever will have a big year. Dillion will get back to form and forms a nice duo with Melony and the d plays well enough to win them games. Decent schedule but they are over rated this year i see it on tv.
Why they have a chace of blowing the division and the playoffs:
THey lost a lot of players and the coach doesn't coach well. Brady has a decent season not mvp type and the defence competely just is terrible. It is possible it won't happen but its possible
This will be a decent division thats a 2 team race alway through.
AFC North
This division was won finally by the cinninati bengals hopefully they won't get arrested thsi year and celebrate like they won the superbowl and they can definally win this division again. Of course the defending super bowl champions are here and have somethign to say about that and the ravens getting there d back and mc nair and even the browns show promise this year. This will be a tough division this year. 2nd best in the AFC behind the west.
break down from worst to first in last year rankings. Clevland will go first just because they have the same record as the ravens.
Clevland: For a defence who was ranked 11th last year in PPG they made a few moves in the offseason to help improve that defence getting former patroit Willie Mcguiness and DT Ted washington from oakland. Romeo cronel has done wonders with this team and Charlye Frye will be in his second year starting and has shown improvment from last season. They also one of my favorite players Joe Jervious I explained last time y hes one of my personal fav players. There recieving core is alright NOrthcutt has to increase his play and Jervious will be the #1 here. they lost a few players but kept their core around unlike 2 years ago they gave there whole line to the broncos lol. Of course the offence is the question here i think they will improve in that area. Droughns and Green are a decent 2 rb for their team. I think they will improve offensivly and there defence will stay solid. My prediction is a 7-9 record for this team because the schedule is tougher this year but there coach has them playing every week. They will finish 3rd yes third in this division. NO where near play offs though.
Ravens fans prepare to flame me with your might because you won't like this preview.
Baltimore: There defence is back Ray Lewis is ready to bring the hurt. They extended the contract of the best safty in the leauge in ed reed. There defence with additions throughout Fa and their first round pick is going to be a top 4 defence but now the reason y even this defence won't get this team to the playoffs. There offence is going to blow the season for them again. Yes everyone might liek the moves getting Mcnair and Mike anderson but i dont' think it will help them one bit and heres why. Mc Nair will get injuried unfortunly early in teh season. I don't think hes 100% healthy and they have no qb after him. They have no true #1 reciever mason is good but not a #2. Mark Clayton isn't a #1 either. I think Anderson was a product of the denver rushing system i don't think he will do to well in baltimore. 800 yards for him and 700-1000 for Lewis As much as i do like there TE todd heap he won't carry this offence. Plus the schedule is bad bad very tough. They will lose to 3 of the 4 teams in the AFC west and 3 of the 4 teams to the NFC south. thats 6 loses already atleast 1 time to each of their dvision rivals thats 9 loses and then one other lost. My prediction is a 6-10 record as i said and worst in the division even though talent wise they aren't the worst.
Pittsburgh: They are the champs of the super bowl but not champs in the divisioh huh. Well they barely made the wild card over KC and a injury to Carson Palmer( yes cinninati would have won that game if Palmer wasn't injured and some questionable calls by refs in the superbowl: seatle should have still won that game even with the bad calls by the refs) and they are champions. Bettis retires randel el goes to washington. They pick up another reciver in the draft to have a nice 1 2 combo with ward and they got the up n comming te in Heath Miller. There offence will be good just lack of trick plays that cower will love to run. There SP will decrese with randel els dissapearence. There Rb attack will still be potent with Parker and Staley. There D basically stayed in tact they lsot a few players but they still got the core that won teh superbowl. My prediction is they have a tough schedule but they can win 11 games and finish with a 11-5 record and 2nd in this division but top wild card spot.
Cinnanati: These guys are the defending champs and maybe were happy to finally win the division to concentrate on the playoffs. I believe Palmer will be back for the preseason and be ready for the regular season. There offence is the most balanced in the NFL and they can say they have the second best recieing core in the NFL. Henry does need to be adviod getting arrested. Of course Marvin Lewis will have this defence even better though they had alot of int's they also gave up points. They picked up a few players help there defence not many but crtital including sam adams. I think the defecne will play well enough so this high power offence can win this division. Just think of them as the colts a few years ago and yes the can be that good offensivly. I predict a 12-4 record winning the division and 3rd seed again in teh conference playoffs.
Why and why nots of each team.
Clevland:
Why they can contend for a wild card:
They would have to play perfectly to have a chance.
Why they won't:
The offence is getting better but still not good enough. Defence isn't like baltimores in the division but its still pretty good. This division is tough and they have a tough schedule (but easest in this division) coaching will help but won't get them over the hump.
Baltimore:
Why they have a chance to win the division and get to the playoffs:
There defence can get them to the superbowl. The offence needs to play decent to well. Mcnair stays helathy they maybe pick up a good r eciever todd heap becomes a top te. Jamal Lewis and Mike anderson both havve 1000 yard seasons.
Why they WON'T get to the playoffs:
I can't beleive their offence will preform well. I don't think anderson and lewis will have great seasons together. I don't think Mcnair will be healthy. There recievers are sub par at best. mason i would normally say hes good but hes getting up there in age. Like i said there defence will play great there offence will cost them alot of games because they won't score enough agaisnt teams who can score like kansas city pittsburgh cinninati denver san diego carolina alanta all teams they will face in the season there d is great but not un scorable. The offence will make turnovers and teams will capitalize. Sure they will have alot 9-6 or 10-7 games but they will be on the low end of those scores. Maybe my mind will change in preseason i have to see them play but as of now i just can't. I got to see it to believe it. Plus both cinnati and pittsburgh are better then baltimore.
Pittsburgh:
Why they can win the division:
They still have the core team from their super bowl winning season. Thye lost a few players and got some. Cower get some lucky breaks and they can. There team on both sides is solid.
Why they won't win the division:
They lost 3 things that help them win the super bowl. The big back on the short down situations, trick plays and special teams with randel el granted they can run the tricks with hines ward it just isnt' the same. It will take alittle bit of time to get use to it. The schedule is hard but the can over come it.
Cinninati:
Why they will win the division:
Offence is the word here yes i think there the colts of a few years ago. They have a nice balance attack i don't think many defences can stop chad johnson as much as he talks hes still one of the top 3 wideouts in the NFL. Running game is solid with rudi johnson. Carson palmer has emerge to be a top qb in the NFL. I beleive personally and yes baltimore and washington fans should know this. Cinninati defence will play better. they just have to alittle bit because this offence is explosive.
Why they can not win the division:
There defence plays poorly. Palmer comes back at start in the season and he needs time to warm up. besides that i think they can win.
Like i said this is the second best division in the AFC so expect good and competive games in this division and from all teams in this division. And baltimore fans let the flamming begin lol. Mos3pth giants are not one fo the worst teams in the NFL lol there way better then 17. Its just hard to believe that they won this division last year. (btw was tied for the best division in wins last year along with the afc west and they were 8-8 against each other so in a way they tired) they improved their weaknesses still have a top 5 offense the 1st or 2nd best de duo and yet there 17th best it just confuses me. Teams won't be able to full pass at will on the giants like they did last year.

WTF?!?!?!?!?!
Belichick is by far the best head coach in the NFL, the man is a mastermind.

Which team do you think will surprise everyone this season?
My pick: Same as last year, I go with Arizona.
