I think what nobrainer was trying to say is that different species took what was most important to their survival and evolved it. There are other animals that are intelligent this is true but as evolution progressed nature and their environment did not require them to gain intelligence beyond what they already knew to survive. Humans somewhere became reliant on their knowledge to survive. Create fire, set traps and so on and found this the best way for them to survive so their genes, i guess you could say, focused on that aspect for evolution for humans to progress and survive. In the end everything adapts to life in order to survive and reproduce.

Dolphins are extremely intelligent but nature found a way for them to live and felt perhaps there wasnt a need for them to evolve into say mer-people or something else because their attributes make them as perfect for their environment as they could be.

Also keep in mind that humans may be intelligent in the sense of inventions and so on but please be aware that most things we invented have already been and are already being utilized by other animals in their own ways...some animals use tools, chemical reations, poisons medicines and are far more intelligent then us in a instinct way. For example we have sonar but we are not as intelligent in using it as a bat or dolphin is. We can increase our smell with detection devices but never as good as a dog or elephant...(an elephant can smell water from miles away!!!!)

So i guess to wrap this us every species found something to help them survive, we found it to be our brain...some other smart animals found it to be their beaks, wings, stealth, strength, speed and so on which we do not have...you have to work with what you are given. Yes gorillas as so on are smart but they need their strength, climbing and knowledge of the forest to survive...perhaps we were part of a group that wasn't as strong as the others and couldnt climb as good so we used our brains.......all this is funny because i dont really believe in us evolving from apes...lol thats another story :)
