Well, if wolves evolved to use weapons, they would need to have hands to hold the weapons. They would also become much weaker as a result of using weapons and brainpower instead of their teeth. The same applies to all the other examples. Easy question this one!
The same thing has happened to us. Compare a man to a chimp. A chimp is way stronger! It could tear you apart with ease! Fear the Chimp!
Language actually stems from intelligent strategies which early hunting humans used to communicate ways of outwitting their prey.
Some animals do use a form of language anyway.

As interesting as what you wrote was, it didn't answer my question because I asked why only humans evolved like this when there are so many other animals that had/have the intelligence to do the same. sad

Even though redexquisite has answered the question nicely, I'll have a go again.
I did try and answer the question! If only I hadn't wrote it so clumsily...

The reason we evolved the way we have done is because we have hands with opposable thumbs. Once you have hands which can grip things, you can use tools. Once you have tools, you can use them to kill your prey or to create something to your advantage (like a shelter) by using them.
After humans began using tools we became weak, because we didn't need strength or teeth to defend ourselves. Using the tools increased our brainpower and on it went, in a cycle of increased intelligence and more complex tools. (Only to a point; a roman soldier is no less intelligent then you or I... Well, maybe me!)

The only way for an animal to use tools in the same way we have is to have an opposable thumb and a precision motor dextrous grip.
It is the main reason we ride around in Cadillacs and Dolphins and Chimps don't.

That's all fine. As long as it has been answered.

Can anyone shed light on this question? (from the post above, but I am compelled to post it agin here)

I've wanted to know the answer to this since I was a little boy.

My Stupid Question:
How many average humans would it take to beat an average family car in a tug of war?

EDIT:

I guess it all comes down to how much an average family car can pull. Since Horsepower doesn't exactly equal a horses power, no real idea can be gained from the cars horse power. Maybe the cars torque measurement would give a better idea along the grip of the tyres. Let's say this takes place on a concrete, flat road. I just know you'd need a hell of a lot of people to beat a car. Anyone got any further insight into this slightly ridiculous question?

Well, i do know from watching those Strongman competitions that Magnus DerMagnussen (which, btw, is the coolest name ever devised) can tug-o-war with a car and keep it from moving. He just holds it in places while the tires peel out on the pavement.

Of course, he's not exactly what I would call an "average human".

Ok nobrainer ill take a crack at your question: (takes a deep breath)

Your question did intrigue me and i searched for a while and this is what i came up with. Your answer has to do with Racing Physics. I found some good info on an Autopedia site.

They take into consideration the torque and mass (or dynamic). I know it's not an average family car but their example used a Corvette weighing 3200lbs. Given the car weight is distributed 50/50 then the back tires are forced with 1600lbs. According to tire adhesion rules tires cannot conduct a forward motion if they are asked to push more than the weight on them...(in this case 1600lbs) Any more would result in burnining out or tires spinning but no movement (peeling out) So this corvettes engine would have to conduct power to equal 1600lbs of acceleration in order for the car to move..any more would cause burnout and any less the car engine wouldnt be strong enough to move the car.

Taking this into consideration the car basically needs to generate 1600lbs of power to move forward....if you can create a resistance of 1600lbs you can stop the corvette from moving...so to answer your question finally i guess you would have to say how much the average human could pull.

According to the University of Kentucky the average human can pull 0.86 times it's own weight. Now you wanted to know how many average human-s it would take? Well (in the U.S.) the average adult male weighs around 168-183, Male teen weighs on average 99-141. (this is only the average...I personally weigh more lol) That means according to the University of Kentucky an average adult male shoud be able to pull or create 312.5-340lbs of resistence. A male teen = 181-258lbs of resistence.
The average adult female weighs 120-140 which equals 223-260lbs of resistence and an average female teen weighs 100-126 which equals 186-234lbs of resistence

With all this which seems like alot: If you have an average Adult male and female and Average Male and female Teen they could create a total of 902.5-1092lbs of resistence...Since for the corvette 1600lbs is only needed then i would say your result would be

On average it would take two of each....to hold down that corvette which equals 8 average humans (if it were Adults and teens) if not then it would take 4-5 adult Males, 6-9 Male Teens, 6-7 adult Females, or 7-9 Female Teens....or any mix thereof.

Wow hope i didnt miss anything

For sugar...yes. Sugar is a drug that you can become addicted to, and can experience withdrawal symptoms from

From: http://www.stress-free-weight-loss.com/February-4-2003.htm

"The symptoms of sugar withdrawal can include headaches, fatigue, depression, drowsiness, skin eruptions, and mucus or throat discomfort."

I personally am a caffeine addict.

A: IMO, it would be "'make' someone kill you." I mean, if you tell someone, I don't see why they'd just say "Ok", and do so, but if you give 'em enough reason to make 'em wanna kill you (as in, you piss 'em off BIG TIME), who knows.

The only reasons I could think of are the following;

-A horse that can't walk (pull objects, run, etc.) is useless to begin with;
-It can take an extremely long time before a horse can walk again, especially since it has to use all of its legs to move about;
-It could take a lot more money to keep a crippled horse around and rehabilitate it (vets aren't cheap these days).

As far as I can tell, it's only by choice people kill crippled horses because they don't want to take the time and effort to heal them.

That just answered a shit load of questions I had, but nvm now.

ummm, ok:

What would happen if we ate ourselves?(say in a starving situation with nobody else around)

Why do some people believe that the our fate is inevitable, while others feel that we choose our own fate?

BTW, grinningdeath, to answer your question, I would say God speaks all languages since he's GOD. smile

i'll take your questions on...
1. if you tried to eat yourself, you would have to be totally psycologically devoted to it, because most people cannot harm themselves in a way that harmful. depending on where you ate, wou could either pass out from pain, die of blood loss, or die of eating a vital area or leaving it exposed.
2. people, i belive, follow whatever they want. people who dont like making descisions would usually belive in fate being unavoidable and inevitable. or people who want a reason for certain things too happen. more take-charge people would like to keep their fate in their own hands. wheather you know it or not, your subconsious (spelled that wrong) has a say in EVERYTHING you do. if you think you wanna do something, but dont do it, your subconsious decides for you. it controls you, and is what you would call a "conscience" if you belive in that sort of thing. heres ome questions of my own;
1. what is stealing/cheating if you dont get caught?
2. when is there going to be a new episode of family guy?
3. since i live on a diet of ALL fat foods (meat and sweets, all the time, always) shouldnt i weigh more than 130 lbs (im 13 and 5'10, muscley)confused

This thread must be rescued!

I'll answer scorpionrulz's questions:

1. What is stealing/cheating if you don't get caught?

That's the attitude of a criminal. It's still stealing/cheating even if you don't get caught.

2. When is there going to be a new episode of Family Guy?

When Hell freezes over?

3. Since i live on a diet of ALL fat foods (meat and sweets, all the time, always) shouldnt i weigh more than 130 lbs (im 13 and 5'10, muscley)

You must have a fast metabolism that enables you to absorb and process food energy without getting too much extra fat. Besides, you're thirteen and most people have quick metabolism at that age. Be warned though, metabolism slows as we age.
I'm eighteen, 5' 11 - 6' 0 ft, and I weigh a mere ten to eleven stone. I don't eat alot, but it tends to be crap as well. Then again I work out, so that must balnce it somewhat.

And yes, Scorpion rules!
