A top MK9 player at TYM that works at a studio where they did voices mentioned some of the characters in the roster...

He mentioned:

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)

Deathstroke
Raven
Cyborg

He said it was back in November, though,.... so who knows what could've happened since?

EXACTLY THIS!!!! How dare they try to expand their company, us MK fans will never move on from MK9, just give us 4 DLC characters every year for the next 10 years so we can play the same game and never get over it!!

Expanding their company is not the same thing as diverting their attention away from MK. I'd assume expanding means you hire more people to do the work while you still focus on MK. OH WAIT MAYBE THAT MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE FOR IT TO BE PRACTICAL. This silly little game better be a punching bag game to test out features for the new MK.

you're bashing on NRS for trying out something new? Jesus.

I love MK as much as anybody on this site. But this is great opportunity , in my opinion, to expand their company with some DC (Strictly) Based games.

Don't be ignorant about the situation. Be glad that NRS is actually working on something, rather than not working on anything at all.

Here is an article from gamespot that has some of the same info about the game and 3 screenshots in it. It also looks like Vogel is not writing the story for this one.

Ignorant?Ignorance?
Is it too hard to understand that this forum, and the world, is plenty of people who deosn't give a crap about Batman, DC Comics, Super Man and Harley Quinn?
Again, NRS is famous for MK Games. If they want to do something different, they could try a Shaolin MOnks 2 or even a new license, not ABUSING characters from the comic books.
I am looking forward for the gameplay, but as for aesthetics and characters my interest is below zero.
Trying something different doesn't mean forgetting mortal kombat.
I think that xbox360 and ps3 deserve another MK Game, instead of wasting time on this "Injustice".

Yes, quite ignorant. Who says they are forgetting MK? Making 1 game independent from MK and now they have abandoned the series? That is crazy talk. You even said they could try a new license, but why? That would still mean forgetting about MK.

Current generation do not "deserve" another MK game, especially if new consoles are coming in late 2013 / early 2014. Sure, I would like to see and update or patch for MK9 too, but a whole new game is not necessary.

It is possible, even plausible, that most of the MK9 team is working on Injustice and there is a select group working on a next-gen MK. There have been rumors of development kits or specs being in the hands of developers. Working with MK9 as a base would mean that the Injustice's infrastructure is set and less of the team is needed.

http://www.oxmonline.com/netherrealm-studios-hiring-next-gen-projects

A simple search in google shows that NRS is looking / has expanded. Making Injustice, while hiring more to begin the build of MK10. This is good stuff.

Plus it seems they are trying some wild gameplay concepts with the environment. Better they do that with the DC franchise then ruin the next MK because they think it might be cool.

From Boon's twitter. I think it looks 3d because of the goofy angles they show, but the fighting WILL be 2d!

A lot of nonsense from you.
I want a NEW MK Game, I want MK10 for the xbox360.
I don't see the point of a crappy DC game at this point.
And i think it's very "shallow" to use the DC franchise just as punchng bag to test and improve the gameplay mechanics of MK 10.
Damn, MK9 got recognition from tournament player, just improve the hit boxes and keep the basic gameplay, instead of adding stupid gimmicky elements like enviromental hazards and stupid stage transitions.
The only thing I know is that almost all previous consoles had 3-4 MK game at least, but i bought a xbox360 just to play mk9 and no other MK game, this is sad. Very sad.
By "forgetting MK" i meant that they giving too much focus on a decadent frachise...MK vs DC Universe, Batman Lockdown and now this DC fighting game. There' s a huge difference between trying something new, and abandoning MK for the DC.
WB is subdivided into sussidiaries..monolith is working on FEAR games, the LEGO team on LEGO games, the Lord of the Ring team, etc.
I really don't see why Ed Boon's team cannot be the MK team.
And i really don't see how not being interested in the DC franchise is "ignorant".

You're right... not being interested in a new DC fighting game is not ignorant. It's very much your right. However, expecting NRS to work on nothing but MK related stuff IS a bit ignorant. MK is their main franchise, yes... but they are game developers by profession. Perhaps they just wanted a change? They've been working strictly MK for years and years now. C'mon.. you can't expect them to not want a change of pace after all this time.

They'll get back to MK. Let them stretch their legs a bit. Also it is far FAR too early to judge this game by any standard. it's still very early on in the process. Who knows, you might actually like it... and if you don't then you don't have to buy it. No one is forcing you. However you really do have to face the reality that NRS is going to work on other games and there is nothing you can do about it. So relax and wait for the next MK (which will be coming)

The days of Midway forcing out an MK game per year (with really crappy results) are gone. Now it will be more like how it should be... taking the time needed to make the games as best as they can. No rushing. If that means a break or two or three in between before other MK games come out, so be it. I can live with that if quality is the reward.

I actually hoped that the MK team would get another game series to work on to get profit from other things as well, and because the most of the fighting game developers do have multiple fighting series to work on.
Hiring new members to the studios could help the team distributing different works to different people but NRS is basically just one studio under WBIE and it is WBIE who ultimately chooses who does this, who that and who the other. They probably want NRS to add their touch to the DC series, considering how well they performed (sales-wise) with MK8.

Nonsense? You just finished saying they weren't expanding their studio and I provide a link showing that they are. I don't care what you personally want, just don't say NRS is not expanding and benefitting from these DC games then ignore the evidence I provide that say otherwise.

Other consoles may have gotten 3+ MK games, but many of them were not very good. NRS had huge success with MK9 (WB was bought the MK rights betting on this). WB's bet paid off and they asked NRS to do this DC game. If Injustice is a success then NRS will be allowed to hire more people and therefore be able to work on multiple projects--> Maybe MK10 AND A Shaolin MOnks style Movie tie-in. This is a great opportunity for them.

Oh, and let me get this straight. Ed Boon and his studio should be making another MK game for this generation because you bought an 360 just for MK9? Like WB and NRS owe you something.

Can't say that I'm happy for this. DC fans will be pleased.
But everything else about this is a no go for me.

They're still trying to tinker with Environmental Interaction bullshit gimmicks.
I JUST WANT TO FIGHT.
I read that Wonder Woman and Harley is in it. So I was excited at first, and then I saw what they look like.

Wonder Woman has on the costume that NOBODY LIKES. No original? No version with the warrior skirt thingy? Really?

Harley Quinn, WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE WEARING?! They didn't even TRY.
I understand not making her look like the Arkham Asylum/City version, but what the hell is this?! Did she shop at the "Mileena Store"?!
When I look at the screenshot of her, there is nothing about her that screams to me "That's Harley Quinn!".
She looks like a created character with limited resources.
I've seen better created character Harley Quinn's in SoulCalibur IV than THIS.

I'm gonna be Joker laughing when the costumes I want are gonna be DLC.

I...I like the Wonderwoman costume. Harley's too. Their costumes are supposed to be a NRS redesign, but staying kind of true to the original look. smile

MK games usually have an alternate costume per character, so if the character doesn't look good to you(it's an early trailer, a lot of things change from now until release), you can always hope for a more classic alternate look.Personally I still think Harley's classic animated series outfit is the best. So I hope they include that.

This is a different take on the argument. And i Accept it.
Ironically, you hit the jackpot. WB is not Midway, so we are not supposed to expect a MK per year.
Then, can you explain to a ignorant like me why NRS is working on a game with a 2013 release date?

So, basically, Ed Boon wanted to work on something different than Mortal Kombat and wanted to work on it with a 3-4 year time span.
We're at 2012, THEY ARE WORKING on a 2013 game with DC heroes in it.
SO the entire "I hate working on a game per year" is just an excuse.
It looks like they are sick of Mortal Kombat.
The simple idea that I'll have to wait the next generation to play the new MK game drives me mad...sad

No, you misunderstood. What I meant by "A break or two or three in between" was a break from the Mortal Kombat Franchise. Meaning the breaks in between would be other games besides MK... such as this Injustice game. Also, MK was made in 2011, this game won't be out until sometime in 2013 (most likely the later half) so that's more than a year between releases.

If I had to guess, this game probably means that the next MK won't come out until the next gen consoles arrive, which was already a fairly easy assumption to make. Truth be told, I'm okay with that.

I'd read a rumor a while back that NRS was trying to acquire the Killer Instinct license from Rare, so a small part of me is a bit disappointed that we couldn't see that game get made instead of this one, but that was probably never a realistic possibility begin with.

Regardless, as it stands, this game looks intriguing. I don't know if it's a must-buy based on what I've seen so far, but I'm guessing that as more and more gets revealed, my interest will increase.

On a side note, call me crazy, but I kinda would've preferred a fighting game that was solely based on the Batman universe. I mean, a game with these characters would be pretty sweet, I think:

Batman
Robin
Nightwing
Bat Girl
Red Hood
Huntress
Commissioner Gordon
Talia al Ghul
Joker
Two Face
Clayface
Mr. Freeze
Harley
Poison Ivy
Red Claw
Ra's al Ghul
Solomon Grundy
Penguin
Riddler
The Mad Hatter
Phantasm
Catwoman
Black Mask
Scarecrow
Bane
Hush
Hugo Strange
Killer Croc
Deadshot
Man Bat

To me, that's 30 solid characters, and most of them are characters that I'd rather play as than about 95% of the rest of the DC universe. Maybe that's just me though...

Either way, if this Injustice is half as good as NRS last effort, I'll buy it for sure. I just hope that I'll see a lot more in the coming months that moves me from intrigued to ecstatic about it.

LOL Man it isn't called BATMAN INJUSTICE. You gotta revamp that list with some OTHER DC characters. It's my biggest problem with anything DC, there are always like 3-5 Bat-villains and nobody elses. There are so many great villains out there and everyone focuses on the stupid bat villains.

My take on the Injustice Roster including the confirmed ones.

Batman
Flash
Grundy
Wonder Woman
Harley Quinn
Super Man
Lex Luthor
Captain Cold
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Sinestro (Sinestro Corps style)
Necron
Azrael
Atrocitus
Joker
Deathstroke
Nightwing
Bane
Lobo
Star Sapphire
Martian Manhunter
Aquaman
Cyborg
Ra's Al Ghul
Hawkman/Hawkgirl
Swamp Thing
Cheetah
Catwoman
Vandal Savage
Metalo
Professor Zoom
Abin Sur
Darkseid
Black Hand (Blackest Night version)
Poison Ivy

As for the reaction on these boards, kind of expected. Some people excited, some people throwing a shit fit because it's not an MK game, and some throwing a shit fit because they don't like the NRS style for some of the characters.

I'm in that first group. I'm looking forward to seeing what NRS will do with the DC characters, I know there will be alternate costumes for the characters, so if I'm not happy with a character's look, I always have another option. MK9 was a terrific game, but I'm not chomping at the bit for another one since, you know we got the Komplete Edition plus MK:Vita within a year of each other. (guess you people forgot that part)

I will support this game day one if only for the future possibility that NRS can expand their portfolio and not be "Hey, the Mortal Kombat dudes".

DC has needed a good fighter for quite some time now. I think the whole Justice League Movie and the success of the 2 Batman Arkham Asylum/City has really pushed for this, which I'm very excited!!! If I'm not mistaken, when MKvsDCU came out, they stated that they signed on 2 produce 2 games which were never specified as to it having to be MKvsDCU and MKvsDCU2, so I'm happy it's a straight-up DC fighter whereas it could've been another vs game. I'm so proud that they picked the NRS to make this game. We all loved/cherished the MK9 engine enough that DC wanted their game to go in the same direction and I can't blame them. I'd rather they make it instead of say Capcom, they'd just milk the heck out of us by locking half of the complete game.
