One day NRS will eventually get their adventure games right. Even tho SM was mostly uncanon I enjoyed exploring the stages of the old games in 3-D; fighting bad guys like shawdow priests or shang stung's guards was epic(also long over due).

I honestly hope NRS takes a break on MK and give some deep thought on an adventure game that ties into MK10. Maybe have stories like:

ermac: quest for redemption
sheeva: leading a resistance against shinnock
reptile: assassin for hire
cage:
sonya:

IDK i just want an adventure game starring characters besides Kang,Lao,Scorp,Sub,Noob. Let others shine you know....

When you make a game like that, you have to appeal to the larger fan bases. A game centered around Ermac? Wouldn't sell. The same goes for the others. Marketing agencies know who the popular characters are and if NRS went to their bosses with a game involving the above characters they'd be shot down and the game wouldn't even make it to development. A game featuring a lot of characters is another matter though.

Hardcore fans would probably buy it (I own Special Forces BTW) but that's a small number of people compared to what is considered a success in terms of sales. There have been 3 action games and not one of them is considered spectacular by the general gaming community. Shaolin Monks was a step up, but it wasn't good enough to garner any type of sequel.

At the end of the day it's all about sales. Scorpion sells more than Sheeva.

I didn't just vote for Jade & Reptile cuz of tits....but it was a plus. I like Team Shaolin but Jade has been one of my favorites since UMK3 & Reptile since his first appearance in The Pit.

I think you underestimate how much of a fanbase Ermac has. He's consistently a top placer on plenty of MK polls, not just for popularity, but for most wanted characters for things like merchandise. Ermac could sell, they just need to find a way to tool it to non-MK fans as well

He is BADASS. He even LOOKS badass. I imagine a game centered around him would sell pretty decently. He's pretty awesome. That's what would draw people in about him- character design. And the fact that he can kill people without even touching them. With his miiinnnddddddddddd.

Why do people like Scorpion? He looks cool. He is cool. His head is literally a flaming skull. Same as Sub-Zero- he's got his ice powers and an awesome backstory and cool demeanor. But, what they have on characters like Ermac or Havik (I think Havik is really cool looking.) is the seniority. A game centered around Scorpion would probably fly off the shelves because, well, people like Scorpion. I like Scorpion. He's been there since MK1 and he's been the second most popular character since MK1. He's recognizable, very much so. You can tell he was the yellow Sub-Zero, since yellow is still his main color. Same for most of the color-swaps (I say most because Ermac's main clothing color is pretty much black now, not red, and the accents are definitely more of a maroon color than the bright red)

I agree that a new game would need to have more popular characters to really sell, though. People who aren't as into it see Scorpion and Sub-Zero, maybe Mileena and Kitana but not very many others.

Personally, an adventure game sounds pretty cool to me. I really liked MKD's konquest mode (although I rushed through it really fast and now it's like 'what do'), and an adventure game where you could play as multiple characters would be awesome.

I'd be fine with MK10 being a similar set-up to MK9 too. I quite liked the 2.5D. Pretty characters, nice backdrops, and dodging in 3D planes confuses me to the point where I continuously lose on Easy on MKD because I use all my breakers too early :'D

MK9 pulled in a lot of people. I imagine most of them would stick around for the next game, no matter what NRS does. I know I will. I'm pretty excited for it.

That topic bounced a bit. But what I'm saying is yes, you're definitely right that Scorpion sells better than Sheeva in the long-run because of popularity. But you can't say that Kitana, Mileena, or Smoke wouldn't appeal to the less hardcore fans as well. I'm sure a lot of them would be interested!

I totally agree and respect you guys opinion, but the reason I mention certain characters such as sheeva is because of characters such as kung lao and princess kitana.

They were not even thought about during MK1. It was scorpion's catch phrase, sub-zero's coolness, Raiden's eletrical capabilities(love the old raiden. didn't have to get up after a knock down, jus teleport), goro(nuff said), shang stung's 110% triple skull damage, and let's not forget the champ lui kang.

Next mileena, kitana, kung lao, and shao kahn step in and overshadow some characters in popularity(kitana>kano) or go neck to neck in popularity(kung lao=lui kang). Some even got their own game.

Point is, UM FREAKIN TIRED OF SCORP & SUB ETC. This is MK, not Lui Kang and Kitana's Legacy of MK. I really believe ermac or smoke could draw in sales. Hell maybe Sheeva could too if they put her out there right. Really risky but i know I'll buy the game.

Lui Kang and Kung Lao are overated and get to much credit! They get their own game? That wasnt right, AND they kill most of the good characters. So undoubtedly, my vote is for Reptile and Jade

Actually, no. We got hit by some of the worst, least subtle spam voting we've seen during either contest. Liu Kang & Kung Lao pretty assuredly won, even if it was close. We could default to a pre-spam number, but that didn't seem satisfying. It's disappointing, but it doesn't look like we're going to be able to unpick the spam votes without completely stalling. We'll push on as normal today, but it's been a disappointing turn. Haven't decided how we'll progress, yet.
