If he grabs you, he can do a bear hug and kill the opponent with the waist spike armor.

Well, the mesh is holding up pretty good. You just need to work on the phoenems now. Then again that's only if you plan on speech. I'd work on giving him a more fearsome look. No offense, but he looks like he's trying to take a crap right now.

He's constipated.
I need to add a few more loops to the face for easier deformations.
So I can do more wrinkles like around the mouth, nose bridge and the outer corners of the eyes.
I'll do that today and get started on the armor. The body is pretty much done. All I need to do is make small tweaks here and there when I see something is off.
I'm thinking of putting a lot of carvings on the armor like Roman armor.
Not sure if I should model the detail or just do it with bump mapping. I think I'll end up going with Bump though. That's much faster and easier.

I made a new sketch for the armor design.
I'm thinking some Bronze and chrome with lot's of little carved details.
I think the horns on his waist guard will be made of bone.
I also have a band around part of his horns, like wrist bands.
We'll see though, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want him to look like.

The very first animation test.
I haven't started setting up the vertex weights yet. I just messed around a little with the envelopes.
I still have a ton of cleaning up to do on him.
Sorry, I can't put big files online, I don't have much room in my host.

Also the model is not finished yet, I still have to make his armor and textures, but I need to have him moving today. I have to show it to someone....

For those wondering why he's deforming like that with spikes and stuff.
That's because the vertex points that make up the mesh aren't moving correctly with the bones.
I have to set up every single point so it moves smoothly with the model which will take me a few hours to get right.
If you don't know what a vertex point is, It's the corners of every square on a wire frame. Like a box has 4 corners, so there are 4 vertex points.
The weight is how much the vertex points are pulled by a bone.
The bones are like real bones, when the bones move, the mesh will deform with it.
The purpose of a test animation with him stretching like that is so that I can see what points I need to fix.

I'm remodeling the Arms and chest area. I had some trouble with the edge loops.
It was making animation a pain so I have to fix it.
I'm almost done with that though.
Here is a quick walk animation that I made for him.
It's only the bones moving but when I get the model rigged and ready for animation, he'll be walking.

it's good, but the tail swings a little too much. also, have it swing from side to side (but thats just being picky. good job, dude!

The tail is swinging in a figure 8 it's kind of hard to tell from that angle though. And yeah I agree, it's moving way too much.
