Damn dude. Looks great.
Ummm, well you can look for Video game modeling.

Modeling low polygon characters helps a lot to get started.

Modeling high polygon characters is just a matter of adding a lot more detail.

You can go to CGtalk.com and check out the WIP forums and study their wire frames. That helps out a LOT.

Also you can go here.

That site has a lot of good tutorials, on that same page, scroll down to where you see a Green goblin. It has a list of numbers to the right of the picture = 123456789.

That is a series of step by step videos with him talking while he models the goblin. It's VERY VERY good and easy to follow. And it's FREE!

If you want to learn fast, WATCH THOSE VIDS!

He made the goblin in 3Ds max.

Hey, do you think you could hook us up with a wireframe?
In my sig., click on the "Motaro WIP gallery" link.

That is a page with all the WIP shots up to this point.

There are some recent wire frames at the bottom of the page.

How many polygons is the model currently at? Those horns alone look like they have more polygons than most models in current videogames.
I'm not sure, I haven't counted.

This model would never work in real time though, it's too high poly.

Instead it would be used for still renders and FMV's.
Finally, another Update!!!

I made his neck a bit longer

made his abs stick out a little more instead of going in like before.

Added some hands

Started work on the lower body

Made the legs longer

Attached the torso and legs

Moved the shoulders in a little.

Remodeled the connection of the pec. to shoulder.

Now I'm getting exited, it's really taking the shape of what I had in mind.

Oh, and does anybody know where RaMeir is? That dude like... just disapeared. I know he had a Kintaro model WIP...

Wow, can't believe anybody remembers me. The Kintaro project went as I expected. Lookin really good, other projects came up, I finished them and got bored with Kintaro. I can only work on other peoples work for so long before I get sick of it. It really isn't helping me at all so why bother with it. Still, I may go back to it, but it would only be for you guys.

I am currently writing a script for a new animated series I'm going to produce, direct, animate... you get the picture. Hopefully you'll see it on cartoon network.

Now to the matter at hand. Good for you Gabe, I'm glad to see you are sticking with it (Midway I mean). I'll be honest with you, I've never been really impressed with their 3D work. They've always been a step behind Square, Namco, and Capcom. What I mean is, it's not your talent that is keeping you out of the company. Some things it might be: they are on the verge of a major release, there is probably a hiring freeze right now. They are banking alot on this title and Midway's been having alot of financial trouble recently. Things may need to balance out before they pick up new people.

You posted that machine-flesh picture as the calibur you need to get in. Not even close, Midway can't smell art that good. Maybe their individual artists can, but not as a company.

I'll study the picture some more and see if it needs critiquing yet. Bummer on the mesh problems but then some lessons you have to learn the hard way. wink

Take it easy

Holy crap man! There you are grin

Long time no speak.

I'm interested in this New animated series you are making for cartoon network.

Do you have a small animated file, like a couple seconds of animation?

Maybe you have some examples of older animations you've done?

You have me on the edge of my seat!

Did you ever get to animate Kintaro? How far did you get on him?

Hey, maybe if you come up with a new look for him new armor or something like I did, then you wouldn't get so sick of it. That's why I changed Motaro's design, both to keep me interested and to make him more original.

I'd still love to pit these too beasts against each other, It'd make a kool wall paper or something.

Ditto, I've been keeping an eye out on CGtalk but haven't seen you. My artistic browsing has shifted more over there. Z-Brush 2 looks awesome.

All I can show you right now is this. Space Bums This links to some older concept drawings I created of the crew. They predate anything I've posted here. Like I said I'm in preproduction stage right now, working out script details and whatnot so it may be awhile (a month) before I have anything to show.

As for Kintaro I set up a basic rigging (no fingers and toes) to test it out. Good results but like I said other work came up.

You are probably right on the new design. I was mostly working off the originals and ideas I had in my head (Never a good idea, always write it down).

A composite would be great. Here's the tag line, "The time has come, the ultimate showdown."

Ahhh good times, wink

nice nice, looks like a camel toe in that last one tho lol. Dude you think youll be sharing the file once you're done? Id love to play around with him in 3d Studio Max. smile and no I wouldnt use it for anything lol.
Ummm I don't think it's a good idea to have the Max file available for download.

I don't think anybody is going to steal my work, but you never know.

I have to think about it later on. Maybe I'll put the .max file on my site so the game companies can view it.

Not sure yet...

I TOTTALY understand dude, I wouldnt want it out there if I was worried. I just wanted to make sure I knew if you did so I could get ahold of it. smile

you gonna add hair at all? and will you make animations of it?
hehe and look, visit 2222!
I don't have a hair or fur plugin for 3Ds Max. So I'll have to paint the hair for the body and use bump maps. I'll model the main with polygons, It should look pretty real.

What happened to that.. Mechanical thingy Motaro has? Around Motaro's crotch area he has like.. these.. plates or something..

Also, it looks like a lil more detail to his legs/lower body could be made I guess.
LOL, I was thinking that too, it looks like nuts. confused

I toned it down some, but I'm not going to take it out. Real horses have a big muscle there, so I'm going to leave it there.

I worked on the trunk of the horse body added muscles and ribs.

Now I'm gonna start adding muscles to the legs.

the hoofs are not made yet, I'm going to make them kind of big and strong looking, but all in due time.

I am not going to give Motaro the armor he had in MK3, I'm making my own version of him. I don't want to do a straight copy.

You can see the concept sketch here.

Made him taller in responce to a post at CGtalk.

So you want this to go the actual horse way, as opposed to the game way? The front hips are looking a little wide, but that could just be because horse bits and man bits aren't meant to go together.
