i mean we didn't see the full story(shinnok and quan at the end and the fight scnes they cut from the film) and the editing was incredibly terrible.

Are you serious, is that on the DVD? That sounds tight, damn that sux that they took that out.

I disagree the story for MK3/UMK3/MKT was good. It just got completely thrashed when they tried to turn it into a cheap movie.

i thought the idea of following the mk3/umk3/mkt storyline was pretty much the only real good thing about the movie. it wouldve been nice to see a movie about mk2 bout it really wouldnt have served a purpose. they shouldve had mk2 and mk3 in 1 movie, like say the first half hour be pertaining to mk2 then show the events leading up to the invasion and come into mk3. and if they wanted to add all them damn characters then they shouldve made a longer movie so the characters can develope and have decent screen time. i couldve wrote a better script. lol. the only thing i like about mka is that its about mk. other than that its pretty much crap.

I didn't think the story of those games was crap, it wasn't bad... I just think the games themselves were crap. grin Terrible animation (most notably on the static 2-D fatalities that the victim wasn't even animated to receive), bad finishers (Rain's uppercut? Smoke's earth-explosion? Animalities?), boring backgrounds... the whole package was just weak. Just like the movie.

The game of MK2 was dark & oriental, and had that mysterious supernatural element from the first game - the second movie was none of those things. Just a power rangers movie with bad costumes, bad dialogue, bad sound effects and bad actors. I kept expecting to read "Saban" at the end of the credits.
The first movie didn't have the atmosphere of the games either... but it did do it a thousand times better than the second film.

You know what, if Lawrence Kasanoff waited a couple years, developed the scripts a little more... OK, a lot more... We could have had a world wide sensation Trilogy like Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and The Matrix... If he had all 3 scripts ready, and filmed the trilogy all at the same time, it could have been a HUGE hit... Bigger than MK1, Bigger than Lord Of The Rings, maybe!

the only thing i liked about it was

-flashbacks from Mortal Kombat at the beginning of the movie.

-Jax's sense of humor.

I agree about the flashbacks from the first movie.

Scorpion vs Sub-Zero was alright, but if it was more like Scorpion vs Subzero in that town at night in Conquest then it would have rocked.

By the way, I remember downloading a video one point of that Scorpion vs Subzero fight. Anyone have any idea if its available on the net anywhere?

OMG, that fight in Conquest, that was awesome, and the one in the forest... Yea, it should have been more like that, maybe if Sub Zero didn't take of his mask, or something...
try OVERNET. www.overnet.com/

-The music of the movie kicked ass!

-Some well choreographed fights like:

Jax/Sonya VS Cyrax/Squad
Liu Kang VS Smoke
Rayden VS Reptile
Sonya VS Mileena

-The 2 woman that played Sindel and Mileena were very cool. I loved their acting and their outfits were actually pretty good.

-The way they did Sonya’s Fatality.

-Shao Kahns mask.

-The non-stopping action.

-Scorpions costume and spears were actually very good. It didn’t look stupid like all the other ninjas.

-I actually think the story was good. I liked it. Maybe not the Rayden/Kahn thing but, overall it was good.

-The final fights. I liked the idea of having all the main characters have a final fight.

-Sheevas animation was actually very good. Look at her arms. I read this somewhere in the net, and it is true, the way she was done was very good. Her arms movements are even better then Goros! Look closely.

-Sindels scream.

-The line of the elder gods: “The fate of the universe, should be decided as it should be in Mortal Kombat!”

There are actually lots of good things of this movie.
I agree with your list... But it looks like the cons were so bad that it overshadowed all what was positive about MKA, a shame really.

Wha? I didn't say anyone claimed the story was good. I was just putting a positive spin on the movie's utter stupidity by saying that it requires no intellectual effort to watch it. Which can be a good thing if you're feeling too lazy to watch a movie with some actual intelligence behind it.

Not even! How can you expect movies based on a video game that wasn't really said Best of 20th Century to compete with movies based on books whos author who was voted One of the Best Authors in the 20th Century? Eh?
I had almost expected The Matrix Trilogy to pass LOTR, but failed with its sappy ending. I'll still buy the Revolutions DVD, though. They BETTER have an alternate ending!
Far from the Topic. Anyhoo, positives about MKA:
-Had SOME good actors
-Jax's sense of humor
-Opening scene had a dimmed sky. They could've used this when making the Siege of Gondor and Black Gate scenes, like Tolkien envisioned. And its a shame that a crummy movie used this effect and a great movie didn't.
-The guys on horses had very cool armor and weapons.
-Some of the fights were pretty cool.

You guys named some "positive things"
which weren't so positive.

The animality scene:
wtf it was like a scene from power rangers or something.

Raiden being Kahn's brother:
BAD IDEA
not exciting or moving in anyway, makes the movie look like a soap opera.

Most of the positive reasons a lot of you have stated were not positive to me. The ONLY thing I found positive about the movie was Keith Cooke as Sub-Zero.
