Threshold is producing the film on their own now, and it will most likely be a independant film for straight to DVD release. The budget is 50 million.

Well looks like that makes THREE new MK films and their all going to be independant films, even if Threshold has more money.

That interview just doesn't feel right to me.

For one,
Boon said the other day in a interview that there is no director. Not saying that mink isn't it or maybe boon hasn't really kept up but just saying what i have already heard.Another thing.50-60 million for a MK movie? That my friend,is freaken amazing if it is actually true.Sadly,I don't think their in a situation where they can risk it for a straight to dvd release.

So while it is nice to see a brand new interview, some things on there seems off by a lot.I hope its half true, cause atleast then it would mean that we would actually get a new movie. But if they really have a budget that big, then theres no reason in hell to for them to make a bad mk movie.Their budget on the tv show was way less and that was a million times better then the second movie.

Yeah, if it's going to be just a DVD release movie and not being shown in theatres, then it's not going to be worth seeing at all.

To be honest, unless it's a really terrific take on the MK universe, I'd rather it not exist at all as a straight to DVD. I only want the third movie to get an MK theatre experience again!

Just because its DTV doesn't mean its bad. They could make the movie theatricle and it can suck and they can make it DTV and it can suck...or it can make lots of money and put the series back on the map...yes a little ole DTV movie can do all that. DTV is becoming a major market and isen't like it was two years ago. It all depends on the people who are making it. Its very ignorant to judge a film only because of it going DTV if thats the case you'll miss alot of BRILLIANT films.

As is the usual case, I don't really see what point you're trying to make.
I said that unless the movie is brilliant, I'd rather it not exist as a straight to DVD. Why even bother with it if it's just going to be average?
On the other hand, if it goes to the theatres, I wouldn't mind it being average because I'd still get what I want - the epic theatrical environment that you can't get at home.

And in case you missed it, the first movie was in the theatres aswell and it was far better than annihilation. I don't get where you're going.

It seems to me that the german interview with Ed Boon is more relevant than this news piece. People should try to get attention to that thread rather than this one.

Jack Burton is a bit skeptical about it being a "straight to DVD" release...but hey, I won't pass judgment on it until I actually get to see it. I'm just afraid they may not put as much effort in it if they know beforehand it won't be in theatres, ya know?

First of all Mortal Kombat Devastation is not being released direct to DVD. It is being released in theatres. Also if it is direct to dvd then it would not take two years to make. Second the budget hasen't been confirmed yet. Now that we're off that subject let me tell you the real news on the third mortal kombat movie a.k.a Mortal Kombat Devastation. Now it has been confirmed that the script is finished and they are currently casting. The movie is said to be released in 2010.

Also it has been confirmed that MK:D will be a more violent gruesome movie thanthd past 2 movies. And it also rumored that the man who played Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat Conquest might appear in Mortal Kombat Devastation. And for the record the new MK movie is not called MK3, it's called MK Devastation because it's not a sequel it's a remake of the MK movie franchisefuriousfuriousfurious

Do you have evidence contrary to what was first posted in this thread? If so, I'd really love to see it. Secondly, it's taking so long to make because some of the set locations were destroyed when Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf back in 2005. Edit: Okay, now I've heard that the current delays in the film production are due to creative conflicts between Midway and the filmmakers, therefore I must partially retract my comment on Katrina...although it DID destroy some of the set locations.
too right!

All this wait is just ridiculous. Both Threshold and Midway, clearly do not give a flying fuck about a third movie (and they suck at not giving a fuck about it). I mean, it is impossible for a single movie to cause so much confusion and be delayed for like a decade.

I see so many shit movies coming out, SO MANY OF THEM, that i realize that or the producers are preparing a great movie and taking their time for it, or they just don't give a fuck.

Talking about video game movies... a Tekken movie is coming (and it is gonna suck big time), a second Street Fighter movie is in the works, a King of Fighters movie is in pre-production, even a fucking Dragon Ball Z movie is coming, and NOBODY gives a fuck about DBZ (other than 13 year olds)... yet MK has been swallowed by a big, black void.

As a franchise, MK is much bigger than any of the refered sagas (well KoF is pretty damn big, but.. yeah).

I say they turn it official and reveal the movie has been cancelled, or they confirm it is coming, and turn 2010 into a real release date (one year and a half is more than enough time to make it... also, they had 10 years to make it, so, there's no excuse).

I don't know in what Portugal you live in, but it can't be the same Portugal I'm in. A lot of people love Dragonball.

I know they do, but it's just that i don't see a Shounen anime series turning into a live action film, and being good. It just sounds silly, to me at least.

But that may be just me, who never really liked DBZ, mainly because of its mainstreamness.

Dude, you need to seriously stop with the angry attitude on here and calling people who are oppose to this "Thrid Movie" story not true MK fans.

The only reason why people are not waiting is what I've stated on another thread that talks about the third movie.

I'll believe it when I see it. They better stick to the damn storyline or this will be another MKA.
