This is coming from someone that has been highly skeptical of the whole “secret character” thing from the beginning.

Yeah this is just another notch in the "leak was pretty spot on" column considering Game Informer also gave us insight into Cetrion's family tree (which was also in the leaks). So I wouldn't necessarily say the roster is 100% bigger than 25 with secret characters but it's looking pretty damn likely.

I've been an MK fan for years. I remember coming to this forum back in the MK5.org days. And I must say...MK11's roster reveal has been the LEAST exciting in all my years of being an MK Fan.

It's missing the dark mysticism the classic games had. There was something special about the aura of Mortal Kombat.

I'm so tired of seeing Johnny & Cassie Cage sarcastic jokes overshadowing these intros. (And I love me some Johnny Cage). MK always had humor, but it never overshadowed the dark undertone in the classic games. D'vorah is garbage. Who TF invited Jacqui Briggs back? She's basic AF. Sonya was so badass in MK3 & MK4....now she's annoying. I love Jade so much....this whole revenant thing needs to go away. It's so dumb and i don't care if i can customize her costume. Skarlet? GURL BYE. Like...this is so whack. The stages are ok. Nothing special.

I hope Mileena returns. Would be nice to see some other classics like Rain, Fujin, Reptile & Sindel. (I know, I know - I'm sure you've heard it all).

And he also is arguably one of the most requested characters today. So much so that he became the most popular MK character a couple of years back on this very forum. Better get used to it.

On a sidenote, I'm glad I'm not the only one ranting about a pile of garbage that is MK11 roster.

I agree that MK has lost its mistery vibes, some special atmosphere. MKDA and MKD still had it, maybe even MKA to some extent. I don't know it it's the influence of WB of they just lost their creativity.

Looking at pictures from the site, when I think about it more clearly it aligns perfectly with 25 clear roster spots (including Shao Kahn) and the squares below gradually increase in lightness which does indicate "more to come". I am leaning more toward there not being secret characters now to be honest, which is a shame but I'm still super hyped for this game.

Everyones complaining that new characters are garbage... Come on guys. D'Vorah is cool. Skarlet is cool. Kotal also. Geras and Cetrion seem promising so far. What rhe hell is wrong with yall?

Yes. Why leave out the OGs when you can keep them in AND add the new ones? And why are Smoke, Rain, Mileena,...left out but boring Briggs' are in?

Really wish NRS would just update the roster section on the website and mark the extra boxes with DLC to finally put this argument over roster size to bed.

But even if they did people would still bang on about Mileena being a super duper secret unlockable. I am willing to believe that she may be DLC but not Shinnok, honestly that guy shouldn’t even be base roster let alone DLC how disappointing would that be!

I suppose they'll have different kinds of characters as DLC. Shang Tsung and Shinnok are a little similiar so I doubt the latter will make it as DLC.

The only similarity I see between Shang Tsung and Shinnok, is that both their names begin with an 'S'. MK4 days are over, Shinnok has his own moveset and his relevance story wise is bigger than it was before the reboot.

They haven't been similar since 1998.

It's easier to keep to a sense of mystery with a minimalist presentation. The more they were able to do with the games on a technical level, the grander the spectacle and more detailed experience they could make, the more the world of MK was depicted full and alive, the more you see what's under the masks as characters progress -- the less "mysterious" it all seemed.

It was easier to keep secrets when games were simpler things. It was easier to leave key information in the subtext, or scatter bits of development through short-form bios and endings and attract screens, so you go searching for connections. The bigger and bolder the games got, the more of its simplicity was lost, and a lot of the nuance that is best achieved through a simpler format. You can watch this slowly happen over the course of the series, with a pronounced spike since MK9 when they could suddenly create an EPIC! experience.

Look at the kinds of games that have the most gripping atmosphere these days. They're usually founded on simple concepts, an uncomplicated premise, and straightforward art direction. MK has grown a bit too big to fit that mold anymore.

Overload of Special forces and injustice like characts like Geras and Kronika are killing the mystical asian eastern horror vibe. Thats whats up.

While I do agree with you, but just because there is no trophy for secret kharacters doesnt mean anything and the designer at NRS already said Shao kahn is not a base roster kharacter, he is pre order only plus they seem to be doing things alot different with this game. Not to mention the 29 slots on the offical website kinda screws with everyone’s minds lol

Shao Kahn is said to be one of the 25 base roster characters in a lot of the leaks, including the true leak everyone is basing most of their speculation on.

He's also listed as DLC in official places (like on the website when it went live a day early with some outdated errors).

So this just points to him being on-the-disk DLC.

Oh well. I am very pleased with the development of mk11. I can’t wait to get my hands on the game.

My my only two complaints are the number of special forces characters and only 3 male ninjas.

Oh. Well if it's the mystical Asian horror vibe you're missing, then you can thank MK3 for killing that. Literally half the original roster was composed of high-tech Earthrealmers. (Hell, there were only three Outworld characters out of fourteen. Four if you count Kano.)

To be honest i would be more as fine if mileena sits this one out. Especially seeing we will have jade, skarlett, kitana and frost. I love mileena but bring her back for mk12.
