Mk was always about photorealism, and will always be about that. The only games that were not realistic anatomy wise were the 3D ones and they are the worst of the worst.

So, it’s always been about photorealism...except when it wasn’t.

Something different would be photorealism in 3D, done with Unreal Engine 5, or is this too demanding of technology? Keeping MK's roots in mind, this is the future after all and we know they like to try different little things in every game. I think they're in a rhythm with the 2.5D gameplay though. Seems like they like to do things roughly in three's. Look at MK1, MK2 and MK3 then MKDA, MKD and MKA and finally MK 2011, MKX and MK11. They're in a pattern in terms of the look and feel, so a major change may be next.

... Just in time for next gen?

I think they’ll continue to travel down the photorealistic 2.5D trend for a while longer. I also think they will continue to flip flop injustice and MK every two years until we stop buying. Which is fine by me, I’ll keep buying.

Back to OP discussion...

i like the customization but disappointed that the characters can be different colors that stray from their identity color scheme. I’d prefer to have customizable palettes but with color swatches that are predetermined to the characters colors.

Sonya is my only gripe so far. I just don’t think she’s as interesting compared to several other female fighters in MK.

I was also being really hopeful about Rhonda Rousey voicing her, but her voice lines are extremely stale.

  • Roster size and how potentially we will get many Special Forces / earthlings again is my main issue.
  • Kronika as the main boss and her look, she looked better in the first trailer.
  • Just a straight up fight against a boss character. It's time fighting games come up with something new, though MKX's fighting two different Shinnok's was cool (although it was still the same old spamming moves type of boss).
  • We've already seen two Special Forces stages and a fight club that doesn't necessarily fit MK.
  • Customization in combination with the variation system. It seems they've been lazy with the designs for the different variations and haven't done anything substantial to improve the whole thing. I have a feeling plenty of characters will have 3 variations just for the sake of it. The design pieces that you can adjust are part of the problem, but look at those helmets for Baraka, what is up with those? There are tons of great headwear you could make for Baraka that would actually fit his style and face. That Shao Kahn helmet just covers his whole face as it is so disproportionately large. Just a bit odd. I just pray some skins will be fully fleshed out throwbacks and Baraka will have his MKX look with the spikes / teeth in his cheeks.

1. Earthrealm is trying to save itself from being destroyed, so it only makes sense that there'd be a good number of Earthrealmers on the roster.

2. Kronika, as far as I know, looks exactly like she did in the trailer. She may be a bit less stylized because what we saw her in most recently was in-game story mode footage. I don't recall it being konfirmed anywhere that she's the boss, either. But, I'm fine with her being the boss if that ends up being the case. She has a more respectable agenda than the bosses who preceded her in that she's trying to undo all the damage that Raiden's done to the timeline.

3. How do you know what the boss fight will be like this time around? Also, maybe offer up an alternative idea if you're going to criticize the way boss battles have been handled in virtually every fighting game franchise since the beginning of time.

4. The Special Forces arenas have been a bit lackluster, but Refugee Kamp wasn't as bad as, say, the MKX Training Room stage. How does a fight club not fit into the MK universe? This is a fighting game, after all. For all intents and purposes, wasn't the Courtyard in MK1 a version of a "fight club"-type arena? I mean, it had spectators watching two fighters battling it out on fighting pitch. Besides that, it's about time we see an arena revolving around the Black Dragon. Outside of the disasterpiece that was MK: Special Forces, we have never seen a Black Dragon-built arena.

5. I do agree that the customization feature seems a little lackluster. But, what were we all expecting? Personally, I wasn't holding out hope for a second run at Armageddon's "Kreate-a-Fighter" feature. Given how satisfied I've been with the default appearances of the Scorpion, Raiden, and Shao Kahn, my opinion on the current appearances of other characters (and their various customization options) will remain open. I doubt many adjustments will be made, but I'm fine with the default looks because I'm hoping that their customization options are more than just pallet swaps. Honestly, I was expecting to be given the option to give certain characters at least one of their classic attires, but everything has yet to be revealed.

So, on that note, I'll continue to stay hype for the next installment in the greatest fighting game franchise to have ever existed. You do you, though, chief. I'm not gonna try to force you believe what I believe.

People asking the team to strip the females and bring the MK9 porno all over again. #Disgusting !

I think it's weird that people are outraged over Sonya not showing enough skin. MK9 is about the only MK where she showed lots of skin. She did have those weird spherical boobs in one of the earlier games though.

It's weird for people to want some fan service?

I just hope theybdo not take anymore mystique out fof the game ad they did with mkx. In the last gsme there seemed to be a heavy focus on the military and that was kind of bland imo. I like mk for the fantasy. I always like the notion of "outworld" and its purple skies. I think people liked mid so much because it delved so heavy into the fantasy aspects of mk so much.

So far I have no gripes with what ive seen. Imbreally impressed with what weve seen so far honestly. In fact the only thing that is bothering is that they might fold on their decision to sophisticate the ex move button input. I was looking forward to that, I was thinking they should do something like that in the previous games to make it more challenging.

Well, I don't want to say that I'm disappointed in anything yet simply because we flat out don't know a lot about this game at the moment. The game, overall, looks like it will be a good time. The thing I'm worried about though is the roster. I am worried that the constantly under utilized characters will once again be left out in the cold in favor for the usual suspects. That's really the only thing I'm sort of anxious about in regard to this game.

I just want my Li Mei, man. =/

I was also expecting more customization options than the 3 accessories.

I'm concerned about the lack of 3D-Era characters thus far. Boon's already stated that this game will have a lot less new characters than MKX, but I fear they will pull more from the Original Trilogy than reach beyond, making this an MK9-like roster. I have a lot of characters I want more from MKDA and MKD, but at the very least they should include Fujin and Havik.

Sonya's design and voice acting.

2. The mystery from the trailer made her seem much more interesting, especially her eyes. She looks like a human robot now with those pupils. Where have you been? She's the boss...

3. I just know with the standard sub-boss - boss formula. Ow there's tons of stuff they can do.

4. We're talking MK11. Training room in MKX was pathetic and a waste of a slot. There was only one Special Forces arena in MKX, MK11 already has two. They feel like Street Fighter stages to be honest. I do agree a Black Dragon arena has been missing for too long.

5. Just seems limited.

I am actually great, thanks. I'm really hyped for this game, but these things are disappointing a bit. And what disappoints me now can change. I think MK11 fighting mechanics and graphics have great potential to make even boring characters great. They can totally revamp some MKX newcomers. I am very excited since I see potential in plenty of characters from the past too.

1: it.made sense in MK X as passing of the torch between generations, and will work in MK 11 too due to time travel shenanigans. Also losing Jax for Jacqui or Johnny for Cassie makes no sense as their gameplay and appearance is too different from each other. Sorry but there is little room for you oddball as it is fair I'd add.

2. She is still mysterious as we do not know if she is a Elder God or regular goddess or a different species Heck, some hinted at her being from SEIDO. Her eyes are blue like Geras it makes sense.

3. In the end every boss in every fighting game is a cheap spam fest. I don't see why Kronika should be different. I don't see why NRS should change a formula that works or on what your judgment is based on considering that there is no gameplay footage of Kronika so we don't know how she plays. The thread talks clearly about what it is revealed not speculated. This whole ordeal is complaining for the sake of it, sorry.

5. This is your only acceptable complaint, and even then I disagree: no customization at all would have been better

Good luck with pink Scorpion and white Sub-zero.

I know I'm in the minority here, but having a customization system in general was a let down for me. I know, I know, most of you like it, but he lack of cohesiveness just annoys me. I didn't like it in Injustice 2, I don't like it in CoD or Battlefield, and I'm not gonna like it in MK11. Hell, I didn't like that characters switched to their alts in tower mode on MKX. I'm just not a fan, but that's gonna be my issue. All of you go out and have fun with your white Scorpions and fuschia Sub-Zeros. Everyones Chameleon now and I'll have to live with it.

I despise customization as well. It’s ridiculous. The Johnny Cage mime custome was the jump the shark moment for me.

I actually don't mind stupid alts like the Ninja Mime one. It gives a little bit of humor to playing against someone on the couch or casual online matches. What I hate is how they cycled into the tower in MKX. It's bad enough that I'm fighting guests on the tower, but now I have to fight Brazilian Liu Kang and Khrome Jacqui? It just takes me out of it. Also, I'm curious how garish costumes may be treated in competitive circles. It seems like eye-piercing bright pink would be very distracting.

WTF is the point of changing shit SubZeros kunai or Skarkets valves? We already can barely see the shit.

if you watched the video carefully ed mentions kronika as being the first female boss in their games ever

as Sonya says in mkx when you don't do any fatalities/brutalities 'retirement my ass' people need to stop bitching about the roster it's what it is nothing we can do really

i hope what ed/nrs is doing is erasing everything they did that was messed up by getting rid of the 3d era people that everyone hates and fixing the fuck ups they did during the story modes

my only little nitpick/disappointment they need more females in the game mkx had 7 don't really understand why there are less females than males in fighting games most of the time (yes i am that girl who bitches about the lack of females) they make them a lot faster in gameplay. ooh and the hair they really need to learn to have someone guy or girl have long hair and make it flowy and realistic, other games can do it nrs/ed needs to learn from them

but other than that i don't have much of a 'i hate this game' feeling so far i've been liking what i've seen and can't wait for what else they throw at us

It’s pretty much a meme at this point. WiFi Scorpion player’s costume of choice.

Infrared Scorpion in Sky Temple against someone on a McDonald's WiFi connection is the stuff of nightmares, lol.

Honestly, that ratio is probably applicable to that of female fighting game players versus male fighting game players. In other words, the vast majority of fighting game fans are male, so it'd only make sense to mirror that when it comes to the roster. Also, the number of female MMA fighters is a mere fraction of the number of male MMA fighters. This is true in the pro wrestling scene as well.

If hair is your focus in a fighting game, then I feel like you're doing it wrong, lol.

He seems like a Tremor clone, to be honest. That, and I feel his look is very uninspired, almost a simple male version of Kronika with a cheap knockoff variation of Tremor's powers. I'd much rather have seen Tremor's ending turn out to be at least partly true just so could make a return as a loyal servant of Kronika. But, I'm not the one writing the story or building the roster, so I'll have to accept the hand that NRS is dealing.
