While Cassie, Jacqui, Takeda, and Kung Jin are not horrible when mixed with Sonya, Johnny, Jax, and Kung Lao they do damn well become repetitive with only Takeda having an original moveset.

I am struggling to understand why so many people lump in Kung Jin with the "Kombat Kids" as if he were also an offspring (he's not) with an unoriginal moveset (are you kidding me) who can't coexist with Kung Lao (why the hell not).

Cassie and Jacqui are directly derived from their parents, sure. But Takeda has a much closer similarity to Scorpion than Kung Jin has to Kung Lao. Jin isn't similar to anybody. His family connection is distant. If no one mentioned he was related to Lao, no one would have guessed based on his looks, fighting style, or powers. He's on the team, but he is very much his own character -- he's not even military-looking like the others. Yet for some reason I keep seeing people treat him like he's just as much of a "clone" as the other three, and I just don't get it. Is it the name? Is it really just the name? Because that is seriously, literally the only thing he has in common with Lao.

Cassie Cage taking a roster spot with her parents again, I'd rather have Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage in without their daughter... No Kids in MK11 please, I still hope Cassie is just a Sonya costume... Also don't like the gadgets thing on Sonya Blade, I see Kano use gadgets, but not Sonya, I think they should advance her forcefield/pink-stuff thing more, like a living forcefield.

Also don't like the color-system in this game, Scorpion being blue? Sub-Zero being purple? No way in hell I'm gonna use that.

I would keep Raidens electricity BLUE, but that is just me.

@Scar_Subby & @Umbrascitor.... I agree with everything ScarSubby said. And I also think that both Cassie AND Jacqui could be premiere skins for Sonya going forward. This would give us 2 more roster spots everytime! But I also agree that KungJin (obviously) had an original moveset. He truly only shared the divekick with his Uncle (Lao was his uncle right? its been so long). Now having said that, I do HATE KungJin. LoL. 3 reasons:

1) Everything KungJin said and did in the story mode was cringe-worthy. He, Cassie, and Takeda were ALL 3 competing to be spiderman with the best trolling quipy personality, but Jin always came off more of an asshole instead of humorous.

2) That roster spot damn well should've been for Kai. MKX was a remake of MK4 after all. But also, Everything story-wise could've remained the same and it still would've worked. He is a next generation Shaolin warrior, could still be gay, could still be Lao's nephew (I have every race in my extended family IRL). It probably would've worked BETTER because Kai's "Tiger-Fire" could parallel Liu Kang's Dragon Fire, and maybe he was literally trained JUST to stop an evil Liu Kang.

3) This one is stupid and personal, but I wrote an MK fanfic (LoL) waaay back in middle skool. It was almost identical to the plot of MK11. Kronos the god of time was the boss, so I introduced guys from the ancient past (The Great Kung Lao, etc) and my own version of the future kombat kids. I had my own archer, Stryker's daughter Sable. She was military tho, so she actually looked like a brunette Cassie with Green Arrow/Hawkeye's high tech gear, no magic. So yeah, I hate that guy. Lmao

if that thread about kronika not being playable is very disappointing, i prefer to have the bosses/sub bosses playable then just fighting them in the arcade not a lot of people go in arcade mode to play the games

See, I wouldn't fault anyone for hating Kung Jin in general. You gotta have one unlikable hothead on the team, and that's the part he played at the start of the story... and although he smooths out that chip on his shoulder a bit by the end of the game, he does make a sorry first impression (by design, to give the team some internal conflict). That's a perfectly fine reason to dislike the guy, even if I don't agree that he should be forever held to his first impression. "Self-absorbed asshole redeems himself, learns to be a team player and makes himself useful" is a template that worked fine for Johnny Cage.

I think where the character falls flat is that his being an jerk never has any truly serious consequences. Makes for some bad team dynamics and a botched training session, but that's as bad as it ever gets for him. But... if he had gotten his ass handed to him by Kotal Kahn due to his overconfidence, and he only gets out of the situation alive by using his scholarly knowledge/diplomacy skills to talk his way out of getting Fatality'd, then we can see how that hit to his ego causes him to rethink his approach. Then, after he has a heart talk with his teammates, we can watch him be a badass and feel like he earned it.

Complain about his attitude. Complain about his costume. Sure, whatever. But what I can't get behind are the kinds of criticisms that are obviously wrong if you are actually paying attention to the character, and judging him for what he is, instead of condemning him by association with the real "Kombat Kids" who borrowed moves from their parents, had too many guns, were just regular people, or whatever other knocks apply to them. I seriously saw somebody else highlight the fact that Jin and Lao have the same family name to argue that Jin's just a subpar replacement, and that kind of thinking is soooooo lazy that my brain physically suffers to read it.

I appreciate the effort they put into making Jin into a decently rounded character. He and Cassie are the two team members who seem to have the most fully rendered personalities and character range, so it's no surprise that the team dynamics mostly orbit around them. Other people may not see what I see, and to some extent I'm fine with that. As I mentioned, his narrative arc wasn't exactly flawless and it's fair to say his encounter with Kotal was too easy. But at least that's a criticism I'm leveling at the character as he was actually presented in reality, not a fanfiction version of the character that only exists in some people's too-quick-to-rush-to-judgment imaginations.

Jin and Lao are cousins, by the way.

Hm... my only complain so far is how some Kharacters designs. The face of Sub Zero, the design from Kano... i am not diggin it. It looks a little bit weird to me and i am scared how they designed some other Kharacters which aren't revealed so far..

That it’s a kind of mk trilogy retelling again is a bit disappointing though they probably had to to bring the other half of the trilogy back and there was already a very small chance for 3D era characters.

Sub-Zero's over-Asian face is also very disappointing to me... I thought he was handsome and cool in MKX, now he looks so ugly and like KUng Jin... Same with Scorpion...

If Kronika is not playable, then I will be disappointed.

Also, Takeda Kung Jin and to a certain extent Johnny Cage are not part of the special forces

They are not dressed as special forces operatives in all their costumes except the standard Johnny Cage one in MK X and 11 considering his background appearance.

Takeda wears Shirai Ryu insignia and Kung Jin does the same for the Shaolin.

The only special forces characters are Cassie (only in her standard costune), Jacqui, Jax and Sonya. And I remember people complaining about Sonya's look in MK9 and how she didn't look military at all.

I would rather have the kombat kids (some of the best new characters ever created in the series) and their parents than wasting a spot over Hotaru Darrius, Drahmin or Reiko. I barely can stand Rain and Tremor...
