I loved Freddy ever since he got Johnny Depp eaten by his own bed and used a kids arterial line to turn him into a puppet.

I'm making this post with a calm, level headed mind. I've attempted to read every page up until the last one to try and estimate the overall reaction was to his inclusion, but I got bored (and slightly put off) by the antics of members of this forum. All I can do is an offer an opinion which will be most likely glossed over in a sea of complaints.
First and foremost, I can't differentiate which is more surprising. The inclusion of Freddy? Or the spite shown towards other fans within an online community? Members here are more interested in deliberately rubbing salt into others wounds as opposed to actually talking about a guest character they claim to like. Which is why I hate the idea of guest characters. There are members who like Freddy and are happy to have him included, but there are also members who are just as entitled to voice their complaints as anybody else. To make potshots at them when they're fully entitled to do so is not only quite childish but incredibly tasteless.
Many members have posted with comments like "your tears are delicious" and "lol u buthurt?" rather than actually contribute towards a discussion, and I'm begining to notice that it's often the exact same members doing it on a repeat basis. If this is the prevailent mentality on MKO lately where people are relishing the opportunity to fan the flames and troll other unhappy members then I can completely understand why other members like Jaded Raven (regretably) would leave the site. This is why I'm openly against guest characters as in most cases it just encourages a parasitic mentality in a lot of "fans" of the franchise where they feed off the character's disdain and do their best to encourage it. The exact same behaviour emerged with Kratos's revelation, and it's nothing to be proud of.
Having said all of that, my own personal feelings on the matter are mainly just confusion. Freddy? He just seems like an odd choice to me. He's bested by powerless teenagers in nearly every movie he's in and displays no combatitive apptitude or talent unless his victim is asleep. Though he's a hollywood classic, he hasn't been in the public eye or truley relevant in a good few years and as far as I'm aware he's not due another movie appearance any time soon. It's just a bit of a random choice to me, which I can't really understand.
The only plausible reason I can think of which validates his inclusion is that WB know he'll generate interest from horror fans due to the fact he's a household name and hope to draw in more consumers by including him, which to me, does sort of portray itself out to be a sell out that they'd use a renowned hollywood horror villain to make a profit in a mythical fighting game. You'd never look at Freddy in one of his movies and ever think to yourself that he'd fit in as easily as Quan Chi, Sub-Zero or Jade to the Mortal Kombat mythology. He just seems very out of place bar from the fact he likes killing.
I have no intentions to download him but I wont disrespect those who do. I've watched the movies before and it effectively gave me insomnia for 3 years in my childhood, so let's just say he's not held in the most endearing light in my eyes. Bar this, I also personally don't feel like he fits the mould and am already quite content with the roster now that I have Rain, Skarlet and Kenshi. Either way I only payed for three characters and I got the three I wanted, so happy days. If the compatability pack offers outfits for characters I use, I'll be happy to download it and take my chances at facing him online. But for now, I'd prefer not to include a guest character on my own copy of the game that I've no interest in playing as.
Whether I complain or not, he's in the game now, and nothing changes the fact NRS made it that way. At least Kratos is associated with swordplay, fantasy and war in his own franchise. Freddy is of the horror genre, not Kung Fu, Sci-Fi or Action. I just find it a bit cheap on their behalf that they'd use a notorious figure with no association towards martial arts whatsover to draw additional revenue in a fighting game. That however, is lemon drops compared to how bitter a flavour some of the members here would leave you with. For those trying to goad other members into arguements by deliberatly insulting them, I actually feel embarrased for you that that's the pinnacle of how you spend your spare time. Moderators should ban them for purposely trying to evoke negative reactions as it's what's fuelling the shit storm.

Very well said.
I must admit, I was guilty of a bit of (vague, undirected)
snarkiness at the beginning,
as a result of my long-held belief of this being a guest character proving right.
(and also the fact I've been sitting on that .gif ever since a certain poster freaked out over the leaked MK9 script
I'm not hating on anyone upset by this-
I'm just not surprised or upset by it in the least.
I'm sorry if that upsets anyone :-\

Freddy actually has some actual combative moves. The more recent movies of the original timeline has him pulling off some martial arts. Especially Freddy Vs Jason. As for him having his power, I'm sure it has to do with realms and quan chi giving him power or some stuff like that. Meh on the story. The part that interests me about him though is the gameplay, and from that perspective, he looks pretty damn good to me. He has alot of personality in his moves from what we can see in the trailer.
When i first saw him i was annoyed. But then i watched the whole trailer and by the time i heard him "shhhhh" during his throw i was sold. Season pass well bought for me. I can see why some people don't like him though. I believe he was chosen because he just came into light again on the big screen last year. All in all, i'm happy to have a new character to play around with.
Now people w/out the compatibility pack... All of you hurt my soul when i'm playing online and have about 10 matches in a row i cant play as the 3 current DLC or cant play at all. I see that you don't wanna play as the DLC and may want to keep your game Vanilla but I feel it hurts alot of other people online.
Although that could be fixed quickly by NRS just giving us separate rooms. So i cant really blame you.

That's after he offs them down to like a group of 3 or 2!

I'm dissapointed (yet again ) by the classic costumes. Makes me wonder if NRS remembers they do have more than four characters

Xbox Season Pass holder's, we are getting Freddy for free. Skarlet, Kenshi and Rain equels the amount of the Pass. However it is you option to download him or not. I for one am getting him, eventho my insight on him being in is low. Download him and use him as a dummy, for gosh sakes!
For the PS3 users, I don't feel your pain of having to pay for him, but again, it is your option.
Since they have Freddy in this game with two gloved clawed hands, why didn't they throw in Wolverine, instead? Just a thought.

Well they have already given us classic costumes in these free packs for 6 different characters.
4 of which had not gotten classic costumes yet at all.
2 of which had classic costumes already but got shitty ones in their free pack.

The Freddy they are using for this game looks like new freddy, but acts like old Freddy. He has the evil dick personality the Englund fans love, look at his grab and second fatality for example. I'm sure there is even more we aren't seeing.
Freddy Krueger with a narcolepsy opponent in Test Your Luck or the dream kombat stipulation seems too perfect.
It's funny how other's have brought up the opponent can be turned into a baby... that’s almost too much lol.
I don’t know about anyone else, but this DLC has made me excited again. If that makes me a bad guy, so be it. I’m about as loyal as it comes with MK.

I'm less than thrilled, but the game is already a cross-over title with no canonical story. The game artistically doesn't really have an identity, it just looks like a dirty version of SFIV. As of now it's just a clusterfuck of SF and Tekken characters sprinkled with some guests.
In a nutshell; I was well aware of this months ago and am only mildly put off by it. The game still looks fun as hell and very unique as far as 2D fighters go.
I'm more emotionally invested in Mortal Kombat than any other fighter, that's why it bothers me a great deal more, when they put out a game that is a "return to roots", and then do something as goofy as adding Freddy Krueger.
If these characters were added to Mortal Kombat vs DCU... frankly, I wouldn't care one bit.

Truth.
Well spoken NoobSaibot!
It's a bit of a shame that DLC characters don't talk. Would like to have heard what Freddy's got to say...
Or that they could have done was that he slowly walks in while kids are signing, "One, two, Freddy's coming for you..." Something like that.
But, it's not going to happen. Now, someone fight me in MK online for the Playstation... It's not that hard to find me.

This was a really good post!
