See, this makes sense. If the MK team have the opportunity to include a character who has the potential to play very differently to the rest of the MK roster without standing out like a big dumb sore thumb (read: Soul Calibur and Yoda) then they're smart and creative for taking it.

Who can blame the MK team for wanting to use this final slot for something different and interesting? It's not like this is the last MK game ever, you'll see your favourite post-MK3 characters eventually.

They'd be "smart and creative" for it if they were smart and created it.

This is knowingly cheap and nasty. It's the nature of it, it's business.

But that's the problem, I get the feeling that most think that DLC means that it's the ONLY opportunity to see their favorites, otherwise they'll be lost in Purgatory forever. But it's not... DLC to me means it's like a special gift that NS hands out. And I hope others can see that as well.

I like unexpected characters, especially Freddy, because look at the variety of stuff he can do!! He's got some original concepts in there and he looks awesome to play. I might be weary on one of his fatalities, but all in all, he looks like a damn good character to play as.

NS won't be spending more time with DLC soon because they might start heading in the direction of making their sequel for this game. I think all these characters that we have in this game for DLC is quite enough. Freddy being the last, giving us a "here's an unexpected gift to give you for buying this game! Now enjoy everyone we can make for this game so we can spend time making the next game!"

At least this is what I see from it.

Okay here's the possible reason why we see Freddy here today.

There was this game called Terrordrome.

It was a horror character fighting game
The Roster contained 13 characters

Freddy Krueger
Jason Voorhees ( 2 versions, Human Jason and Zombie Jason )
Michael Myers
Leatherface
Chucky
Ghostface
Candyman
Maniac Cop
The Tallman
Pinhead
Ash Williams
Herbert West

The game had stages related to the characters. Finishing Moves. Combos Specials all that stuff

Well this game got so popular that it got the attention of the rights owners of Ash, Freddy and Jason and asked to be removed..even though the game was free.

Though they'll still be in the game. This probably sparked the idea into WB's head. And what better time to do it then now with Mortal Kombat.

That's probably why you see Freddy right now.

Now why didn't that happen? That could have been hilarious.
I miss the old classic tongue in cheek slasher flicks, before Saw became popular and reduced horror to torture porn.

What didn't happen? I have direct contact with the creator of the project and he's working on Candyman right now. Freddy, Jason and Ash will still be in the game.

I'd rather they have gone with a MK character, but that's neither here nor there. I do not have to pay for him so it makes little difference to me. Guest characters don't appeal to me at all, we all know that by now. I don't see the point of arguing anymore about petty crap like this. I disagree and am disappointed with this decision, and that's all I will say on the matter.

That's what I thought reading all the backslash in this forums, but then I looked up on other sites and looks like the general reaction has been good.

Looks like only a small part of the fanbase has a gripe with this.

I'm making this post with a calm, level headed mind. I've attempted to read every page up until the last one to try and estimate the overall reaction was to his inclusion, but I got bored (and slightly put off) by the antics of members of this forum. All I can do is an offer an opinion which will be most likely glossed over in a sea of complaints.

First and foremost, I can't differentiate which is more surprising. The inclusion of Freddy? Or the spite shown towards other fans within an online community? Members here are more interested in deliberately rubbing salt into others wounds as opposed to actually talking about a guest character they claim to like. Which is why I hate the idea of guest characters. There are members who like Freddy and are happy to have him included, but there are also members who are just as entitled to voice their complaints as anybody else. To make potshots at them when they're fully entitled to do so is not only quite childish but incredibly tasteless.

Many members have posted with comments like "your tears are delicious" and "lol u buthurt?" rather than actually contribute towards a discussion, and I'm begining to notice that it's often the exact same members doing it on a repeat basis. If this is the prevailent mentality on MKO lately where people are relishing the opportunity to fan the flames and troll other unhappy members then I can completely understand why other members like Jaded Raven (regretably) would leave the site. This is why I'm openly against guest characters as in most cases it just encourages a parasitic mentality in a lot of "fans" of the franchise where they feed off the character's disdain and do their best to encourage it. The exact same behaviour emerged with Kratos's revelation, and it's nothing to be proud of.

Having said all of that, my own personal feelings on the matter are mainly just confusion. Freddy? He just seems like an odd choice to me. He's bested by powerless teenagers in nearly every movie he's in and displays no combatitive apptitude or talent unless his victim is asleep. Though he's a hollywood classic, he hasn't been in the public eye or truley relevant in a good few years and as far as I'm aware he's not due another movie appearance any time soon. It's just a bit of a random choice to me, which I can't really understand.

The only plausible reason I can think of which validates his inclusion is that WB know he'll generate interest from horror fans due to the fact he's a household name and hope to draw in more consumers by including him, which to me, does sort of portray itself out to be a sell out that they'd use a renowned hollywood horror villain to make a profit in a mythical fighting game. You'd never look at Freddy in one of his movies and ever think to yourself that he'd fit in as easily as Quan Chi, Sub-Zero or Jade to the Mortal Kombat mythology. He just seems very out of place bar from the fact he likes killing.

I have no intentions to download him but I wont disrespect those who do. I've watched the movies before and it effectively gave me insomnia for 3 years in my childhood, so let's just say he's not held in the most endearing light in my eyes. Bar this, I also personally don't feel like he fits the mould and am already quite content with the roster now that I have Rain, Skarlet and Kenshi. Either way I only payed for three characters and I got the three I wanted, so happy days. If the compatability pack offers outfits for characters I use, I'll be happy to download it and take my chances at facing him online. But for now, I'd prefer not to include a guest character on my own copy of the game that I've no interest in playing as.

Whether I complain or not, he's in the game now, and nothing changes the fact NRS made it that way. At least Kratos is associated with swordplay, fantasy and war in his own franchise. Freddy is of the horror genre, not Kung Fu, Sci-Fi or Action. I just find it a bit cheap on their behalf that they'd use a notorious figure with no association towards martial arts whatsover to draw additional revenue in a fighting game. That however, is lemon drops compared to how bitter a flavour some of the members here would leave you with. For those trying to goad other members into arguements by deliberatly insulting them, I actually feel embarrased for you that that's the pinnacle of how you spend your spare time. Moderators should ban them for purposely trying to evoke negative reactions as it's what's fuelling the shit storm.

OMG!! I love this post! Very articulate, opinionated and mature! I LIKE!!!
As for Freddy... what can I say? I AM disappointed... I'd much rather have a MK character, even if it's a crappy one. I just can't imagine Freddy fighting in an ancient tournament, kinda breaks the whole lovely spell of what MK is... either way! If some people get happy and download it and serves to extend the live of the game and generate more DLC in the future, cool! I know I won't get him, but will get the free skins. UNmasked Subby looks hot!! XD I DO hope he has the scar. And I also wished it was a carbon copy of MK3 Subby not a mix between UMK3 and MK3. ANYHOW! He's free, no compaints... even though I desperatly want a Sonya MK3 outfit before the NRS team decide to move on to another game or endeavor.

One final though on Freddy... another reason I didn't like him is... the whole child-molesting thing... that's just nasty... I know Freddy is that, but to just add it to his biography to amp his image looks like they're glorifying something extremely wrong. Like "this dude is a child-molestor but he's still sick and badass!!!!". I'm not crazy about that approach at all!!! Some may say I'm looking too much into it, but just sending a mixed message like that ("he's a child-molestor, but it's ok 'cause he went to hell and became a monster anyways") to the younger generations is something I strongly disagree with.

Peace!

The answer I expected, and I actually agree.

Still, it's Freddy Krueger, man! grin

You don't have to like it, of course, and in no way am I trying to convince you to. I myself am not that into guest characters, it's just that there's finally a guest character I can bring myself to accept.
