There are two Cyber-Subs because the content of the DLC slots are dependant on the profile that is signed into that player. That is my guess anyway .

what if that pic was taken from an earlier "testing version" of the game?
Let's say Quan Chi and some other characters were being tested, they didn't have pictures ready for those characters, so they're using alternative pics to know where everyone is, so thats why they would look so bad there.
Also

So why would Quan chi be there if he probably shouldn't be on the starting template? he should be with cyber sub on those DLC/secret slots.

about his clothes, if the theory about pics not being ready, that could explain hi's tatoos, but of course the filled with diferences new storyline could explain it

whew, barely had a chance to process the select screen pic amidst all the posts crying over every little thing possible... as usual. i will be part of the sparse minority and say i am happy with what i see. cyber-sub looks great and i cannot wait to see his moves. hope he has the ice shower moves from mk3! quan chi being included just feels right as he is a big part of the story. things were gonna change in this new time line, boon said it from the start, so thats good enough for me to explain quan's tats, if they do not in his bio/ending. he obviously will have an alt so i would relax if you think his outfit is "lazy". back to cyber-sub, when boon said last year at the reveal of mk9 that perhaps certain people who were cyborgs would not be, and those who were not before would be now, did you really think it was not subzero? really? this is a shock in any way? you still have boring, regular human subzero to choose from... so who cares? as for cyber-smoke, his mk3 version had scorpion's spear, sektor's teleport punch, an air throw, and invisibility from reptile. yawn. there was nothing special about him. he did at least have a smoke cloud move in mkd/mka. here is hoping this new smoke that did not become a cyborg has a whole new moveset to go along with his new look. some of the select screen art pics do appear a bit odd, but they are select screen art pics! the game models look fine and thats all that counts, imo. as for select screen order, like i said above there is nothing mk fans will not complain about this fighter should be here, no they should be over there! laughable. i do agree a little with crow that it is a shame some secrets have been already revealed, but in the age of the internet and instant information there is not much one can do except avoid the internet if they do not want to be spoiled. it would seem if developers want any chance to keep secrets they cannot release a demo for fear of the game's code being probed, and they would have to lock up anyone who works on the game in a bunker with no internet access.

now i just want gameplay, or at least decent quality pics, of the remaining fighters on the select screen pic. i do not mind holding off on cyber sub and quan gameplay til later as they are unlockables. sheeva and smoke are main interests at the moment.
