Welcome back to "IS IT SMOKE?" - A handy dandy reference list available for those oh-so-enthusiastic eagle-eyed ninja-spotters who feel certain they've caught sight of the rarest of specimens - that ever stealthy, elusive warrior, the sometimes human, sometimes robot, sometimes nanomachine-colony that we call SMOKE.

Over the past few months, I've noticed a disturbing trend. Why, you little rugrats out there are so eager to be the first to lay eyes on this slippery fish, you all are crying wolf whenever you so much as squint and see something grey! So I've compiled this user friendly, accessible guide to help you identify a list of things which you may think are Smoke on first glance, but - perhaps surprisingly - are not.


Let's start with what Smoke IS, for starters.



This is his human form. He was like this throughout MKII, and was a secret character in Ultimate MK3.



He also appeared in MK Shaolin Monks, showing us all a bit of an updated look on his human form. Sadly, this game never really happened.



This is his robot form. He started as MK3's main secret character looking like this, and was selectable as such in Ultimate MK3. He also had a costume that was based on this look in MK Deception. It was his default costume despite not being how he actually looked during the plot. Nobody really knows why.



This is what is often referred to as his 'Elemental', 'Misty' or 'Cyber-Demon' form, which is his basic form during MK Deception. Noob Saibot, a very bad man, did some very bad things to him while he was asleep, and presumably took pictures and put them up on the internet. When he woke up, he looked like this. :(



Now that we've gone over the basics of what Smoke is, let's go over a couple of commonly made mistakes. The following are things that he doesn't look like, or used to look like, once upon a time before having an operation:



Scorpion



Cyrax and Sektor



Reiko



And just to be on the safe side, the following are things that at first glance some of you may mistake for Smoke - lord knows I have - but I'm telling you right now, I'm at least 80% sure that in most cases, these aren't him.

Cigarettes



Marijuana



Smoked meat



Barbecue grills



Burt Reynolds



Bears



Gangsters



Deep Purple



Reverend Horton Heat

Hmm, I think I know why I prefer Sektor over Cyrax... I love ketchup, but I loathe mustard... I don't loathe Cyrax though, but it might be what is making me lean more towards Sektor... Who knows.

My favorite was the Noob / Smoke one, though...
It would be dumb if Smoke wasn't in. Noob got in, and both were introduced in MK2. Noob wasn't even playable until UMK3 for consoles, but Smoke appeared in MK3 as a playable character, so there should be no doubt in the speculation of his inclusion...

Human Smoke Wins


Today is a good day for Smoke. Fandom for Human Smoke after the days of Mortal Kombat II finally starts to pay back. I have been long absent from this topic due to my personal business but I will update this topic as soon as possible. Hopefully tomorrow.

Now that Smoke embraces his human embodiment again, this topic could be annexed as all things Smoke soon i.e. Smoke → Human Smoke. Changes will happen soon, whatever they will be then. In the mean time, be sure to discuss and anticipate Smoke in here!

The gas around smoke should be green, he stinks as a character.

Smoke seems to have evaded automation. I can live with that since all I care about is a playable Cyber Smoke and it seems we'll be able to get that with a different moveset than the Ninja version.

If we get and not both Smokes, then I will be P'd.

Im happy Smoke is getting a revealed back story. Im loving his real name too and his original origin of birth. Love his bio and ending,damn proud now he needs legit moves catering to his element and speed.

Though I STILL disappointed that he evades automation, I might give Ninja Smoke a chance. It depends....

Pretty sure Sub-Zero is still gonna go off on his own and take over the Lin-Kuei, and make Sektor his bitch again, he has even more of a reason to now.

Smoke, well he never really had a character until getting automated, who knows what he'll do now, maybe join Sub-Zero?

Welcome to the forum, Big_Speck. Smoke has gotten multiple new routes to go now, perhaps we will see him discovering more about his concealed past. We know that new clans have branched out from the Lin Kuei before so there is even a chance that Smoke could create a new sub-clan of his own. I am sure that wherever his new story leads Smoke to, the new game will point that to us.

I've not been very active in this thread so I'm just wondering. Do people dislike "Elemental" Smoke as much as I do? I really hope NRS goes a different direction or does a drastic change to it.
