Yeah but you can definitely tell NRS has been working to fix it, Look at Kitana's hair now compared to the early gameplay videos we got of her, like the PAX ones. I have no doubt that her hair will move and flow just fine in the final build.

I am still bothered by how different Kitana and Mileena look. I like the different hair legnths, but I do not like Mileena's eyes. Deception was good, Mileena looked like a clone of Kitana, now she just looks like Baraka's sister.

Mileena is meant to look different from Kitana in this game cause that's her storyline, her motive. She WANTS to branch away from Kitana and create her own image. She has to prove to Kahn and such that she can be better than Kitana without BEING Kitana.

No offense taken.

From my arguments, no one should make the assumption that I'm a member of this collection of fans that think Mileena's X-ray is bland. I have no purpose in making these claims other than to promote discussion on this board. I'm only defending the possibility of this move being a new X-ray because of visual and audio evidence, not because I want Mileena's X-ray to be different. I'm an observer, and I'm merely stating my observations.

Whether what we've been seeing up till now is a true representation of the final product is an entirely different debate. We know that Mileena's current X-ray is a place holder as seen from the first MK 2011 trailer. It was also mentioned via Twitter that Mileena's X-ray is not final:

Click

Granted, that was a month ago. Then again, does anyone know the exact date the Mileena gameplay video was recorded? Is it really safe to assume that the videos were prepared near or on the day of release? We cannot say for certain that the game as we've seen in the past month is a representation of the game in its current state.

Don't dismiss the similarities between this new move and known X-rays so quickly. I do not understand why NRS would use X-ray effects on a move that is not an X-ray, unless they've decided to give all specials similar treatment.

Based on these similarities, I am still inclined to believe that this new move might be a new X-ray. If it's not, and NRS just gave the new move X-ray effects, then so be it. I'll humbly admit I was wrong. At least everyone gets pretty gifs.

Other than that, I agree with you on the function of Mileena's sai compared to Cody's knife. It's the small, intricate details like this that make me eager to play this game.

that's understandable, but MKD is still canon, there was a time when Mileena needed to pretend to be Kitana and fool everyone close to Kitana. I could not see this Mileena doing that. She looks too different from Kitana to be a clone or a twin. I like her design though, it just kinda throws a wrench in MK's official story.

Yeah. She was portrayed by Katalin Rodriguez Zamiar in MK2, Talisa Soto in the movies *puerto rican mixed with others*, then modeled after Talisa in MKG. She was played by Becky Gable in UMK3. Kitana has been portrayed by a hispanic girl more than anything else.

That's pretty awesome!
I agree that MK needs some Hispanic flavor-
There are lots of whites, several asians and blacks, but no browns... what gives, NRS?! Half your senior staff are Latinos, for chrissakes!
And this is coming from a white guy- I just like diversity grin

I believe Becky Gable is Hawaiian, but she's only been portrayed white once, and that was in Mortal Kombat Conquest, the TV show. So that also means Mileena and Jade were portrayed by a hispanic girl during their debut, if that helps any...

I always thought Mileena, Kitana and Jade were latinas anyways. Especially Jade, I always thought she was Brazilian...

Why is Jade always changing race?

Why can't she just stay black?

Curse you Irina Pantaeva!

Jade never changed race. She's Edenian. Like Kitana and Sindel. It's her skintone that differs.

That said, this is rather off-topic and there are many other threads about this already. Please stay on-topic, Riyakou. Shame on you...

It definitely can't be an X-Ray because there's no bone breaking involved in the move, it's just stabbing.

I know on Twitter Rigo mentioned that the Scorpion gameplay video was done the day it was released and they had about 4 hours. So it's safe to say they are prepared on the day of release.

Is there going to be cut scenes during a fight? Kinda like here where people said it looked like Kitana is saying something to Mileena and Mileena hisses. Or will that be for story mode? Also, I just noticed this little detail, if you look at Mileena's right hip you can see her clothing tearing.

Well, the trailer is awesome. I love how NRS gives Mileena more moves and variation < ( right word in english? ).

Why this can't be an x-ray move? Because there is no x-ray animation with breaking bones and something. Man, this game is beta, not final. I think that this can be an x-ray and the reasons why where comment above.

But one thing makes me start thinking... is this sai stab move a counter? The sound that comes and that Kitana first hit her with a kick and then Mileena suddenly stabs her reminds me of johnny cages x-ray counter.

Hmm, it does look like the X-Ray waves coming from beneath Mileena, but the enhanced special moves have the same ways, do they not? I believe Mileena was glowing extra while doing the Rolling Thunder move is because she generally glows when doing particularly THAT move.

Again, please do not attempt to start an argument. You're being very immature right now and it gains you nothing. And to a further extent, due to the content of the previous discussion you referenced, your post nullifies itself.

Please, do not walk yourself into a precipice.

I think what he means is that we don't get the whole X-Ray effect when Mileena makes that move. It doesn't show the insides of Kitana when she stabs her, like it does in every other X-Ray move.

I really really like this video.

I think my favorite parts are Mileena's awesome grab and as soon as the legs hit the stomach it switches to the "Bell Tower" with a huge load BAM!!!! (the ring of the bells).

My other favorite part is Kitana's stylish heel-kick that makes the background switch to "the Temple".

Soooo good.

I'm loving Mileena is once again getting the attention she deserves. She really did step out of Kitana's shadow, big time!

wdm6789 Wrote:

I love it!!!

The movement of the bangs is soooo sexy. I absolutely loved Sonya's in MkvsDC so I can't wait to look at them in all their glorious style for this new game.

Kitana's bangs/movement look greats, but, the hair is still crappy (even though it does look better than how it was before).

I'm starting to get confused too. So much content of Mileena killing Kitana. I'd love to see them release a vid of Kitana actually winning once and a while. She is suppose to win after all, and her and Sonya are technically the poster girls for MK. Mileena's cool and all, but no...

I like Kitana, but, she's never been the poster girl of MK for any game. She shared that spot with Mileena in MK2 (both were featured equally). Poster characters have usually been Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Sonya and the otehr varie from Quan Chi to the likes of Tsung and Kano and Liu Kang and even Goro.

Sonya has the poster girl position for all the other games with the exception of MKD (absent) and MK2011 (where the most attention was given to Mileena). However, even in this game that heavily promotes Mileena, Sonya's been featured in tons of Magazine exclusives with so many screenshots, articles, in the new X-Play video that was clearly supposed to be released to show her off a while ago, and she was the one character that NRS teased the fans with by playing around with clues and hints and hidden easter eggs in videos and pictures.

Just an observation.

I also hope Kitana and the rest of the confirmed (yet poorly promoted/featured) cast get some attention.

Perhaps. The fact that there are no bone-breaking moves doesn't help my assumption. Maybe it's work in progress X-ray, or just something new entirely. Anyway, Mileena has to be in close-range of her opponent in order to pull the her sai out of the victim's body. That seems to be the way for this attack to connect.

As for the "seeing triple" effect, it's there. Her illusions are red, and you can see them starting to form near her arm in that short gif. Her gif has only half the frames compared to the others because the camera cuts away to this scene here:

This isn't motion blur either. You can see the difference between the blurring and the red illusions.

As for the differences between the enhanced specials' effects and X-ray effects, I pointed them out somewhere on this topic with gifs. The "shock wave" of the former are much fainter and less vivid. The latter has much more prominent waves, screen-shaking, the X-ray "chime", and the illusions. Mileena's new attack uses all of these effects. The only thing it's missing is the actual bone-breaking.

In regards to Johnny Cage's X-ray, remember after is his groin assault he leaps up and elbows his victim in the back.

EDIT: @projectzero00: Ah, I see what you were going for. It's definitely a possibility. Maybe it's unfinished, or the internal effects were intentionally left out for the purpose of the video.

@daryui: So I stand corrected, thanks.

I personally don't think that sai stab is an x-ray. All of the x-rays we have seen so far feature two massive impacts that focus in on the damage done to bones, e.g scorpions face punch (first blow) followed by chest stomp (second blow). With this sai stabbing move, there is no real standout bone crunching blows.

I believe it is simply a special move similar to the ones where she jumps onto the enemies body to bite or stab her sai into their shoulder/neck. Possibly an upgraded version of them?

1) Johnny's X-Ray does have bone breaking in it, when he jumps up and buries his elbow in their spine at the end.

2) I don't see the colored shadows you're talking about, Psyclone. There's a visual echo there, but it doesn't look at all the same as the ones in the other clips. I really think that's just the footage that's blurring, not a game effect.

Let's see. Take a look at the Sonya X-ray. Notice that once Reptile is inside the blue "aura", he also appears to have the same illusionary effect as Sonya. In fact, everything inside the aura is affected in the same way. Take a look at the torch to the left of Goro in the same gif. Confirm with me that you can actually see three flames by the end of the animation.

On to the Mileena gif. So here, the camera is now embedded in this reddish aura surrounding Mileena. Look at Kitana as a reference. She's basically sliding in the same direction as the camera, so there is no reason for her to have lateral motion blur. Yet, we see that she has a reddish illusion to her left and her right. Same with Mileena. Notice that even with the camera still moving and the fighters have come to stop, the illusions merge at the end of the animation.

I don't see this as motion blur. Any fuzziness as a result of rapid movement is motion blur. The characters would have to be moving side to side relative to the camera throughout that animation, and even then the blurring wouldn't be red as it is now. To me at least, the effect is the same as we have seen in other X-rays.
