I bet Goro, Kentaro, and Motaro will not be playable, so that basically narrows down the 26 choices.

For those that are worried about how the "X-Ray" Super move doing too much damage, I wouldn't be worried about it.

People were worried about Rage Mode in the last game and how in the early stages of development, it did way too much damage. But then eventually got toned down like it should've, so again, I wouldn't worry about it. It won't be doing 50% damage next spring.

26 characters is a great number. One thing that bothers me though is that there has been no mention of new characters. At least not yet. Hopefully there will be at least a couple new characters.

For the storyline, Boon says it happens after MKA, but then sort of time travels to the events of MK1-MK3. Honestly, this is great too hear, because now it should allow them to not only potentially re-tell the storyline(s) in a different way, but allows them to sort of clean up the mess of a story that ended in MKA.

Although, if what causes Raiden to time travel with Shao Kahn about to be successful, what exactly does THAT mean? Were Raiden and Shao Kahn the only guys left standing after the events of MKA? Was it Shao Kahn who ultimately earned the victory against Blaze? Did Shao Kahn have a master plan going on during the events of MKA?

For the gameplay, and first and foremost. For those who are SF players like myself, or SF lovers/MK haters who wanna say that the new MK is just trying to cash off of what SF did by going old school style, include power bars which if filled lead to a super attack, etc., etc., For me personally, it doesn't really bother me. Everyone and every company at one point or another has copied something from someone else, or at least followed a similar formula of success. Good for MK. If it helps make the gameplay good, why not?

I'm KIND of sad that breakers are back, and they just didn't go the route of reversals and/or counters, BUT I am glad that you can only use a breaker if you use 2 power bars, and that I can live with. It'll be interesting to see how exactly the super bars work for the specials. One thing though, I'm not liking calling the super moves "X-Ray" Super attacks. That Super name is so... uninspiring. Hopefully this is just a dubbed name at this early stage and they'll have a different and official name for the Super moves.

Shouldn't Raiden be the "Dark" version of himself when he battles Shao Kahn? I hope that gets explained.

The cutscene shown in the trailer isn't necessarily the cutscene from the very beginning of the game. It could be a later one set during MK2.

I realize with the older CD systems we couldn't have Shang morph into other characters. With the newer technology, do we still have the same stumbling blocks?

Wouldn't mind seeing old shang either.

Holy crap, that looked awesome!
The detail on the characters looked amazing, look at Kung Lao's face when he's about to get fatalitied.
Wish screwattack hadn't cut them up so much though.

Something I noticed in the Screw Attack footage:

When it goes "FINISH HIM", Mileena didn't dodge and jerk back and forth because of the player inputting direction commands, she did this animation of standing still and tapping her chin like she's thinking.

If that means characters don't move unless you want them do when you're trying to do a finisher, or distance doesn't matter for finishers anymore, or there's a Fatality "stance" like in the last gen games, that's fucking awesome.

From what i understand the reason shang hasn't been in usual form on the newer cd based games, and I'm pretty sure Ed Boon explain it already, is that they need to be able to load all of the character data, and move sets for the match in order to allow shang tsung to use his morphs.

I've been hoping he would return to for in these past 2 games. I'm thinking should they require a mandatory hard drive install of the game it would fix the problem they have with not being able to load all of the character data directly from a CD.

I'm not entirely sure if I understand the whole problem, so maybe someone else with more knowledge of this issue might be able to clarify it for me even.

Also that fatality montage is pretty sick. Some of the best, and updated fatalities since MK2 & 3 IMO.

Okay, Boon said 26 characters will be classic MK characters from Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3. He didn't say that the game would have new character, but he also never said it wouldn't. But he worded it like all 26 characters would be classics.
So let's break it down. . .

Confirmed:
1. Johnny Cage
2. Raiden
3. Scorpion
4. Sub-Zero
5. Kung Lao
6. Reptile
7. Mileena
8. Shao Kahn
9. Nightwolf
10. Sektor

Remaining:
Kano
Lui Kang
Sonya
Shang Tsung
Goro
Kitana
Jax
Baraka
Kintaro
Sindel
Stryker
Cyrax
Kabal
Sheeva
Smoke
Motaro
Jade
Rain
Ermac
Noob

So. . . theoretically. FOUR of the remaining characters should not make it in! Only FOUR!!
Motaro is a confident rule out, so three of those unlucky buggers may be sitting on the sidelines. As of right now, I suddenly feel confident that I may see Sindel once again.

I would not be so confindent. If enlightened Raiden stops her resurection, she won't be back.

If Sindel is not resurrected, Kabal is just another Black Dragon and Stryker is simply a police officer. What are their stories then?

I'd be very surprised if Goro is not returning. If we have him, do we really need Kintaro or Sheeva?

(Personally, I would prefer Kintaro as a 2-armed catman instead of a Goro klone. I think a race of feline people would enhance MKs mythology.)

I hope Motaro is ruled out. He was my least favorite sub-boss. Also, Noob was the first Sub Zero after he died. If he becomes a cyborg, then there is no Noob.

I have eliminated 7 kombatants so far. Maybe some new characters will appear. This is the tricky part about changing history.

I'm not talking about fictional stories, I'm talking about high probability based on quotes from the chief developer of the series.

If Raiden stops her resurrection... wtf? lol

I personally hope they kill off stryker. I think he was the least favorite, and original character from MK3. I find the time travel concept to change the storyline, and get rid of characters that bloated the roster. Like I mentioned about the possibility of blanking noob saibot out of hesitance. A lot of people feel there are way too many ninjas in the roster. As much as a lot of people like Noob's back story, he really isn't very original (right down there with Rain IMO). Also if the CGI fight between Khan and raiden is any indication of the altered timeline it looks like Kira (not Sonya) was captured during MK 2 invasion. Which means Kano might not have been captured as well, but maybe 1 of the other Black Dragon (or even red dragon) member(s) where.

I also don't see a point in having Jax with Bionic arms. I never like the idea, I hope they remove it.
