I thought Frost had the best model job out of all the games. her face looked like a real person. I always thought the tank look was more a result of bad or underpaid 3D modelers than purposeful design kind of like Armageddon Sonya's body looking like dick shaft.

Things are looking a lot better now. I'd still like to see a better development team doing the game, even if boon is still running it. Lets get the graphics AND the gameplay up to industry standards.

Nice screens
Characters:
Cyrax - His look is not what I was expecting but I think it's great. Looks to have the same basic design with different features. Eg Sektor has shoulder pads and Cyrax doesn't, Cyrax has little green lights all over him and Sektor doesn't. You can really tell they are trying to make them look different. Really happy the net is back. If his exploding teleport returns Cyrax is perfect. His fatality sounds great too.
Kitana - I've never been a fan of Kitana but I really like this look. It's her first look that I haven't thought is boring. I'm loving the heels and gloves. They have really nice detail. Her hair is the only thing that looks off. It looks really stiff and I'm worried about it as Nightwolf looked to have really stiff hair also. The fans could do with more detail. This is easily the best I've seen Kitana and the most excited I've ever been for her.
Arenas/Backgrounds:
Belltower - Really liking the dim and dark look. It doesn't have the most exciting look but perhaps its for ambience. As only the fighters are there duking it out. I really miss the moon from the MK3 Belltower. It was the most striking feature of the arena. I guess they are only having it on the Pit.
Jade's Desert - Looks interesting having a sandstorm around could be cool. Wondering who the ruined statue is. Dragon King, Reptile's lost race, Jerrod, Shao Kahn, Kintaro? Really like the sky it looks amazing. The blue is incredible. The desert looks like a really nice place but with two people kicking the shit out of each other to contrast it.
Overall I'm happy with the update. Can't wait to see it in action.

Well I guess change is good, I will just have to get used to Cyrax new look, and maybe his alt he will have the predator mask and a more "tank" look, but im kinda liking the sleekness. Cant wait to see how he plays, hes a mass combo machine
I was hoping that because they have Mileena, they wouldn't need Kitana. Because they have Sektor, they wouldn't need Cyrax.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Cyrax and Kitana, but I was hopeing for variety in this game. Characters that are too simular because they were once pallette swaps could be replaced with something different. Sometimes excluding characters makes the game more memorable, like Liu Kang in Deadly Alliance and Scopion in MK3.
... Though, that being said, I no longer have faith that Mortal Kombat can come up with good character designs anymore so it is probably for the best that they are sticking to classic characters.
I just hope Liu Kang don't make an appearence, we have Kung Lao.

But they aren't palette swaps anymore. Lui Kang and Kung Lao are two totally different characters (gameplay-wise). As far as I know so are all the characters this time around. All unique inside and out.
Not only that, but they have their own STORYLINES.

Where the fuck did a Chinese assassin gain the ability to control ice? It's not supposed to be believable.

Elementally derived martial arts techniques and the channelling of energy in strange and fantastic ways isn't exactly a new idea, chief.

There's nothing canonically or in their designs up until now that says Cyrax is supposed to be bulkier than Sektor or vice-versa. They looked more or less the same in armor thickness in Armageddon. So It's all a matter of opinion.

To be fair, it's an opinion derived from information we do have.
Cyrax is the tinkered-with-cyborg maintained by a whole new branch of technology, American no less. There's still a lot of man beneath the machine to account for.
Sektor's the one who embraced his condition, did away with his humanity, and fled to tech-central in Japan to upgrade himself silly. With the exception being the usual dreadfully uninspired design, we could safely assume he's the guy who can slim down with much less regard for human anatomy. An idea that (could've) created differentiation between each character in the one-note fashion the games are fond of, with Smoke being the most removed from physical humanity with the nano-tech ideas.
Which, if the designs were reversed, might've made them a breath of fresh air had this game not been set in 1993-1995, when they actually have a good reason to look alike.

I was mainly referring to the pre-Unreal Engine MK games. The only thing left to fix here is some odd facial problems with the rendering and the moves are still clunky and slow. I think WB has got graphics covered given these character models are mainly placeholders, but the fighting is still too slow and the animations could use a lot of improvement. I'm more worried about the gameplay aspects at this point than the graphics.

Well I kinda have mixed feelings on Kita's outfit. It's kinda sexy but at the same time not very traditional for her... to my recollection her outfit has always been a one piece and it could do without the flappy thing, whatever its called im drawing a blank right now... She's not supposed to be really really slutty, thats Mileena's job... but I like Kitana, so I'm glad she's in it

You obviously don't want it enough! Try sticking your head in the freezer for a few hours, then report back on your progress. If that doesn't work, you're just too stupid to be a kori master. I'm sorry.

Or maybe I spoke too soon!
If the fictional precedent of ancient martial arts philosophy doesn't work for you, apparently secretive Chinese clans have a booming mechanization economy these days. Cyborg_Hero will hook you up, eh?
... but if that doesn't work? Definitely stupid.
Nice to finally see something new... but still so long to go
I really like Kitana's look. The details on the boots/armguards looks great and the little things like the head piece/earrings just add to the style.
I'd still like to see something more regal, even it's just a little wraparound dress thing like Tanya in MK:D. Just to make her look a little less slutty.
And the fans could be changed, all metal maybe, or just don't make the blades so obvious.
Love the detail of blood from both characters on the models. You can see oil and blood on Kitana for instance.
Backgrounds looking amazing. If nothing else the game should look good even if it doesn't play great.

That seems an odd thing to say. It's still the original MK team just under a new name, Netherrealm Studios, which is now owned by WB.
I don't think WB is offering more than paying their wages and possibly some more staffers for anything they might require.

Sub-Zero was fucking born with ice powers because his ancestors were ice-wizards from Outworld.
The Lin Kuei have robotics because in Mortal Kombat, the world has tech that advanced and always has, i.e. Kano's eye. Just because the clan is secret doesn't mean they're fucking hermits. They stay cutting edge because they want to be the best and most prestigious hired killers in the world.
Now everybody shut the fuck up about fiction not being believable enough.

Next time you see a Chinaman shoot an ice bolt from his palm, be sure to tell me.
All I'm saying is that one of these "random" things seems more likely than the other.
Edit: I'll admit, I never took that into account Razor. How naive of me. :/

Totally applicable in a video game about another realm coming over to take over your planet with all manner of mutants and sorcerers.

All I'm saying is, hundreds of years of precedent isn't "random."
Return to the freezer and ponder your failings.
Maybe ease up on the Sub-Zero sexbots while you're there.

/\ Robotics has been around for hundreds of years too. Well, at least the concept. And I didn't claim anything was random in the first place. Look at my first post again. I was saying that it's an unbelievable universe, which is why a clan of Chinese assassins can shoot ice and automate people.
Yes Crow, in the same way that my undead mage can create a mechanical squirrel if I'm so inclined.

I can't believe someone is complaining about the animations, they look far better than any MK game to date, the models aren't place holder either they are probably just going to have little touches added over time but I doubt you will see much in the way of changes other than added details. I think everyone in the game looks great so far and so do the backgrounds.
