This game cannot end at MKA because it's a retelling of MK1-MK3, not of the entire series. It's been clearly stated this is the timeline of MK1-MK3. MK4-MKD is an entirely different portion and timeline.

Stop thinking inside that box, my friend.

It starts at MK: A (or there abouts) and Raiden's main objective is to prevent that from happening. Once we get to the end of MK 3, something will happen. Then, after Raiden is done fucking around with the past, trying to do away with the dark message he has been sent...we will see his actions take place in the 'present'. After MK: A. Whats the point of going back to prevent it, if it just ends at MK 3 era...?

Cutscenes in games are capable mediums to tell a tale spanning millions of years.

And what would be the point of skipping over everything between MK3 and MKA? It isn't like this game won't have a sequel.

If we skip over MK4-MKA, we're spared the horror of having Hsu Hao, Taven, Shujinko, Darrius, Kobra, Meat, and Jarek in our next game.

That sounds like a friggin' win to me. wink

This may seem like the pot calling the kettle black right here, but you don't know plot. All we know is Raiden is super keen on not dying and Earthrealm not being destroyed.

I'm just saying, that's the plot. Raiden preventing the outcome of MK: A. Something will happen at the end, whether it be for the better or worse, something relating to Armageddon.

The fact they have flatly stated this a retelling of MK1-MK3 makes me think that it's about the events confined within those games, that's all.

Actually, I was thinking.... Raiden in Armageddon was "Dark Raiden", right? The ruthless, "I'll kill you for the greater good" type, right? And HE'S the one that sends his past self a message?

What if Raiden's hope isn't so pure and simple. What if his intent is downright sinister? To manipulate his adversaries and allies in the past to kill each other off, thus eliminating Armageddon before it ever comes about because the instigators are corpses? Liu Kang is killed in the tournament. Edenia is not saved and Sindel is never redeemed. Earthrealm is overrun. Elder Sub is killed by Scorpion. Younger Sub is killed by the cyborgs. Cyrax is never rescued from the sands. Kitana never discovers her "father's" secret. Kano kills Sonya and Jax kills Kano. Mileena kills Kitana. It could get really dark and sour very quickly if "Dark Raiden" want it to...

Did Raiden die by the hands of Shao Kahn and send a message back to himself in MK 1?

I don't buy it, personally.

Lol @ saying Noob is a throwaway character when compared to Sub-fucking-Borg.

@Sebastian: There has been no hint of pretty much any of the characters that haven't been shown. That doesn't mean they won't be in, especially when they're as popular as Noob.

But Noob is Sub-Zero, and we know Sub-Zero is in. I just don't see how introducing elder Zero leaves room for younger Zero or Noob.

I would like to add at this point in time, it should be younger Zero, not elder, that has been confirmed. That is, until we hear more about the plot/story.

The point, if that's the way they were to go, would probably be to connect the hypothetical repercussions with the act. If Raiden's trying to avoid the events of Armageddon and post, then it stands to reason we should see if he's been successful, or not. I'm not sure it's a winner of a story enough to drag that conclusion out for a couple more games, especially not when the real direction of the game seems to be about wallowing in the 'classic' days of MK.

Just depends how they're going to treat time travel, and what the outcome is.

If it's a time travel morality tale, there's no reason we can't all come back in a few years and continue on from Armageddon with all the mythology, characters, and storylines we've known (and loved, sometimes). Wiser for having wasted our time with time travelling hijinks. That would mean seeing the dominoes fall during MK1-MK3, and coming back to an unchanged (or tweaked) MKA. Not unconventional thinking, at all.

Or, sure. Maybe it's a branching timeline kinda deal and we're gonna revisit the turn of the millenium and the so-called decline of MK again, this time bolstered by the support of a bunch of wacky reinventions. I mean, it can't get any worse... can it?

I'm thinking they might do something like what Tekken did for Eddie Gordo and Cristie, or Panda and Kuma, which is to say they're the "same" character style and they only hog one character select screen, but you can swap between the two as "costumes" and the two have their own separate stories.

Hector Sanchez said that its the original Sub.

and the game is set MK1-3 so you cant rule out that Sub wont die as the story progresses so Noob is still possible.

But Noob and Zero have two completely different things going on. One is an ice-assassin, the other is a shadow Hellspawn. An alt. costume can't change moves, stances and such.

I dunno, we don't know enough about the game to debate...just seems like circle after circle.

I know, I'm just saying it SHOULD be the younger one.

I will agree with the Noob situation once I see/hear it for myself. As of now, I see no Noob and I see an elder-Sub Zero.

For what it's worth; in the 3D age, it really shouldn't be hard to switch a few special moves for a new skin. Or failing that, the old Sub model could be skinned to be Sub Jr, while a brand new model is unlocked for Noob.

As you say, it's reasoning out a lot of hypotheticals.

It's not like MK hasn't had extra characters before. We had "Classic" and "Unmasked" Sub-Zeroes together in MK trilogy. Tekken has Jin and Devil Jin as two separate characters.

And Street Fighter has made a living out of making the exact same character with the same fighting style and fireballs for years. Tweak them all you want, but Ryu, Ken, Gouken, Akuma, Sakura, Dan, Sean, and even Sagat all pretty much share fighting styles. I don't see what two Sub-Zeroes couldn't be similar yet different.

They even did that for Shaolin Monks, where Noob was an alt skin for Sub-Zero.

Well, you were talking about the practicalities of it, which is quite different between 3D models and 2D sprites, or characters that are their own model.

I really don't think anyone needs to formulate an argument for MK making arbitrary doubles of characters... They made a business out of doing that, dude.

Actually, I've even seen it done successfully in 2D sprite games like Mugen, where a character's alt palette has moves the primary doesn't or vice versa.
Granted, Mugen's a fan-made game, not a professional product, but the point is, it goes to show these sorts of things are very possible to do in fighting game programming.

very intersting posts here reg. sub-zero

as we know that the original sub-zero is in, I rather would like to see the 3rd cyber to be young sub-zero then smoke.

one sub is enough ( i's just bad that it looks like noob want be in then), but a cyber-sub could be different in terms of moves and powers. woul dbe cool to see cyber-sub doing some freeze moves as well... just a bit different

human smoke would kick ass, he just needs to get more original and hopefully will look something similar to scorpion and sub-zero

and thats it. 3 cybers are enogh

The Pitt II stage fatality was solid concrete and it looked more brutal than the Pit 1 which was spikes. I haven't seen anyone mention this.
