I seriously don't get the hate about this character's appearance. I really don't fucking understand it.
To the point where I am really going to say this, no I'm not lying and I am serious, that I want the neck stretch fatality to make a return just to make you guys more pissed off about this character for no apparent reason. If he's that much of a bothersome, here's a tip that no one ever seems to get nor do they want to follow this... DON'T PLAY AS HIM!!! If he disgusts you that badly, don't look at him! Sure, his versus pose bothers me because out of all of the characters, his pose looks too cartoony, other than that, he's perfectly fine!
There's a reason for this character to exist in this game due to the fact that he's been around all this time, we just didn't hear about it until the later games. You all were once happy that Quan Chi was once apart of this story, now, when he finally gets a chance to be apart of this game's timeline, you're all aggravated like crazy because he's in and would rather see Rain make a return instead of this guy.
No, Quan Chi deserves this spot, he looks absolutley fine whether or not his appearance makes sense.
Besides, didn't he freaking look like this during the end of Shaolin Monks? Not to mention that he had the amulet in his hand? As well as the fact that the story is taking place between MK2 and MK3? Yeah, so this whole "I hate Quan Chi, he doesn't look right, he's an abomination to this time..." Yeah, no, no and lastly... no.

They have brought back almost every character from the first 3 games and even people who weren't in the games, but were around during that time frame. For fucks sake there are dragons, demons, four-eyed cat creatures with antlers, but Motaro is too much?!?!?
Also they better explain why Quan Chi has tattoos and his amulet......I don't care if they are different from MKDA's or not, just a little explanation is all I'm asking for.....not too much right???

Well if that were the case then Rain should have been in from the get go.
I'm not saying I want Motaro playable I just would like a little visual of him or his race. I mean you can't expect me to just pretend the Centaurs never existed when there are towering Tormentors walking around and Dragons flying through the city.

I agree. Quan Chi has been awful since the beginning anyway.

Don't bring that non-canon abomination into this.

Uhh...you're not aware that Shaolin Monks is non-canon and full of plotholes and errors? And that you just named one of the ones people complained about the most when the game came out?

Well then that's true. Would be nice to have a visual of him.
Rain isn't in because the MK team still think of him as a "joke", as well as his fans. We're just here for their amusement.

I could really care less that Shaolin Monks is a non-canon game at this part because honestly, all this hate for this one particular character makes no sense. Not to mention, Razor, I've known that SM is non-canon. For Christ's sake, it was blabbed all over this site during MKvsDC was popular. But the fact that he made an appearance in that game, in the attire that he wears, I never saw anyone complained about that... But now, I see nothing but complaint after complaint.
You all were rejoicing when you all heard at the very beginning of this game's development stage that Quan Chi had a good chance to appear. And now, when we finally get to see what he looks like, you're all complaining that his appearance makes no sense, that he has the amulet, and that his tattoos are horrible. Nothing can please anyone and its now starting to irritate me. It irritates the fact that you all did a 180 with this guy as soon as those pictures are leaked.
I don't get it, might never will, but I don't get what is bothering all of you with this appearance. The tattoos, the amulet, the fact that he's not in his MK4 gear... What is it?

About Me

I don't like the story so I couldn't care less about Quan having the tattoos prematurely, or going everywhere with the amulet attached to his belt.

I don't have a big problem with the tattoos, but him having the amulet doesn't make sense especially with what happens in the story at the end.

Quan is here and they will get over it. Haters are going to hate, besides that's what alternative attires are for people.
I like this Quan Chi costume, but I think it was overused in the last years.
I don't have any gripes about tattoos - they are clearly different ones from his MKDA tattoos.
But the fact that he has Shinnok's amulet on his belt doesn't make sense.

@ Icebaby:
There are two things I dislike about Quan Chi.
1) He has no place being in this game as a playable character. The fact that they added Quan Chi over Rain is simply not right. They've given Quan Chi a role that he did not have in the past games and is stealing Shang Tsung's spotlight. He simply should not be in this game!
2) His appearance is like it was in MKDA which is also wrong! He didn't start looking like that, shirtless with tattoos and all, before MKDA. He should resemble his MK4 attire, or have gotten a whole new look that would fit into this point of the timeline.
Before MKvsDCU, I actually liked Quan Chi. But now he seems to butt in where he doesn't belong... And he doesn't belong in this game.

Yes,yes and yes.
Don't misunderstand. I love Quan Chi and I'm glad that he's in the game.
I also think his MKDA design is great. The problem is that it makes zero sense for him to be wearing it at this point in the story.
Okay, at least you guys, Jaded and Rex, had reasonable answers for me to not like this character... I just don't get the switching of liking/disliking characters as of lately. I mean, so many people are either up for this character, but not this... then like in either a day or within a week, their feelings are a complete opposite.
It's all this hype, stress, irritating, medical condition acting up on me kind of crap kind of day that I'm probably just getting overworked about what's been happening... Blame the school and the condition. I need a fucking beer.

Well I for one don't hate Quan Chi I just want a few questions answered is all.
I will literally say there is no characters that I absolutely dislike in this game. Hell I would even play as Rain this time around because NRS has done a pretty good job of peaking my interest in characters I didnt even care about like Johnny Cage.
Quan Chi is an amazing character and I am glad we can play as him in this game but I see eye to eye with the people that are ticked off with him being a dominant role in the story and having the Amulet in his possesion and having the tatoos.
Time for a history lesson on why it was best for Quan Chi to enter Mortal Kombat at his appropriate time, if you don't know how the story goes already.. ahh hemm
The first three Mortal Kombat games were all a series of events in an era of the Mortal Kombat universe that in each installment always broadened the scale of things and made things seem more dynamic.
MK1 had this dramatic approach by introducing us to the tournament and the first initial characters and how the importance of the tournament is to saving the Earth. Goro was the brawn and Shang Tsung (THE MAIN VILLAIN) was brains who was a decietful and manipulative sorceror who basically looked at the tournament as an all you can eat buffet with all the souls he would take after someone died. Also he morphed into other people and floated, as a kid when you reached Shang Tsung seeing a screaming flaming skull flying across the screen you were creeped out.
MK2 comes and you find out that WOW the good guys won Goro's gone but Shang Tsung managed to get away and wait what's this? Shang Tsung works for a bigger badder BOSS no way!! From that moment on you realize what kind of guy Shang Tsung is and how trully decietful and cunning he really is, not only does he get away with 1. Loosing Shao Kahn's only chance of stepping into Earth and taking it over for him and 2. The Death of Goro and loosing the support of the Shokan, but he also convinces Shao Kahn to make him younger again. Then you see how evil he is by ordering the deaths of all of Liu Kang's shaolin brothers in response to Liu Kang sparring his life. Shang Tsung had a key role in a lot of people's storylines and he even baited out all the good guys into his home turf in Outworld for Shao Kahn and Kintaro to deal with. That's what Charlie sheen would call uhh WINNING
Then MK3 comes along and although Shao Kahn didn't manage to kill all the good guys due to Kitana's betrayal, it's the darkest chapter in the story when everytyhing the good guys fought for was in vain as Shao Kahn breaks the rules and takes over Earth with Shang Tsung's plan of reviving Sindel in Earth, and what better setting than NYC to set up your base of operations. If you look at the roster of characters in UMK3 you'll realize how many more villains there are than the good guys. And it was in my opinion the most interesting plot out of all 3 games.
Okay now there's a reason why I went into detail on the first three games because it goes to show you how awesome Shang Tsung was and how pivotal he was to the plot. If you read the leak you'll know that:
Also if Quan is around now, then what the hell is Noob Saibot's purpose in the first three games? Noob Saibot was the first hint that something more menacing than Shao Kahn was coming our way and that his shadowy prescense had a mysticism towards it all.
We knew at the time is that there was an evil God like figure coming and we had the Mythologies plot which not only enriched the story elements of the 4th game by taking us back to a time before MK1 but it made Sub-Zero become a very central part of the storyline in him being the ONLY character aware of how decietful Quan Chi was while everyone else had their eyes on Shinnok. Quan Chi is the new face of bad guys in that era and he was a lot smoother than Shang Tsung who was pretty cunning himself, Quan Chi though always had a trump card and having him around really made Scorpion and Sub-Zero's plots a lot deeper. Also Scorpion who is looked at as a bad guy himself was the unexpected hero of MK4, because if it wasn't for him Quan Chi would have been at the top of his game way before Deadly Alliance, and it gave a reason as to why Quan Chi earned those tattoos.
Seeing how he's being paraded around with the amulet in this game just makes me as a fan think that what i've been going on for over 15 years now was like one big dream sequence that never was... So you can see why people aren't really open to this idea because it takes away so much from the story which is not cool in my book man, you can like it all you want but Quan Chi just don't give me that appeal anymore when I see all of this happening.

We are some people who care about the characters' looks and not JUST their gameplay. They are both important aspects of modern day fighting games. If you only care about the gameplay, then that's fine. ^^

No one "returned" anywhere. Raiden sent his past self a mental message in form of visions of what's to come. There is absolutely no time-travelling involved at all.
