Seeing the few cameos already got me thinking...

Assuming this is 'reboot', would you be willing to accept our current, tattered and torn mythology to be re-written? Not necessarily changed, but written differently to allow some of our recent additions a spot in MK’s “rebirthing” fame? For example:

How would you feel, if say, Bo’rai’cho made a cameo appearance secretly training Liu Kang or other Earth fighters?

How much of a stretch would it be to have Reiko lead one of Shao Kahn’s extermination squads, maybe even being the cause of Kabal’s respirator?

Perhaps before Kira was an arms-dealer, she was Special Forces alongside a childhood friend, Sonya?

Maybe we can see a glimpse of Tanya during Shao Kahn’s reign, maybe hinting at friendship with Jade that will later turn into bitter animosity?

What if Johnny Cage had never died, or at least had a viable excuse to have a rivalry with Goro? Or better yet, avert that entire plot line! grin

Anyway, those are just ideas that while stretching our older mythos, are not in the realm of impossible in a "rebooted" one. (With the exception of Bo, since that happened) How far is too far? Which sacred cow are you willing to make a steak out of? What is untouchable?

I like this idea. It'd be a nice opportunity to tidy up the canon plot and close any holes as well as adding neat little additions and ties to the stories of both newer and older characaters. I'd be all for it. It could act as a sort of background story for alot of the characters and could be something they could work on in a story mode version of each characters Arcade run or just as a whole in Konquest of it returns.

I really do like the idea of this new game. Thinking about it, there are still alot of unanswered questions from the MK1-MK3 era. Plus with all the retcons and whatnot that MKDA - MKA established, this game is a grand opportunity to really bring everything together once and for all - to make it all feel unified. Given the XBOX360's capabilities, I'm sure that they can make a game that will really do MK1-MK3's story era justice. It'd be better than releasing a game that centered on one individual game's story, so it's cool they decided to just pack it all in one.

To be honest, I know it won't be perfect - they're going to forget SOMETHING, I know they are. The story's just too expansive. But, it would be awesome to see alot of the air cleared up. I'm really looking forward to how they pull it off, and I just HOPE TO GOD that they don't do what they did with MK Shaolin Monks. I just want them to stick with the basic story of MK1-MK3: MK1 is the tournament, MK2 is the diversionary contest, and MK3 is the Outworld invasion. As for the characters themselves, as long as their stories unfold the way that MKDA-MKA said they did (which, by now, is the only canon MK story we can cling to), then they can do what they want. As for next gen characters' relationship with this era...I don't know what to offer. I suppose I'll just let them do what they want. We'll see.

Or in Tolkien fashion the last mortal kombat games are MK teams version
of "The History of Middle Earth" 1 thru 12 basically the concept.

And the this Mortal Kombat is the Refined version
"The Silmarillion"{new MK}
"The hobbit" {new MK 2}
"The Lord of the Rings"{new MK 3}
"The children of hurin"{new MK 4}

I would love to see Bo Rai Cho training Liu for the tournament. Or Quan Chi turning Scorpion into a Spectre, lying to him that Sub-Zero is the one that killed his family, turning dead Sub into Noob, and all that.

But Reiko wouldn't fit, he's supposed to be dead before the games start. Goro was the general during MK1 and Motaro was the general and leader of the extermination squads during MK3.

- It would be hilarious to run into Shujinko at one point during all this, and be able to gauge about where in the MKD Konquest journey he is, based on how old he appears to be. It took him what, like 60-70yrs? to complete that mission didn't it? I think that would set him up for a cameo at some point if this is indeed a retelling. I like Shujinko though, fool as he may have been.

- To see the Scorpion// Sub-Zero// Quan Chi debacle unfold properly would be nice. Squash all the hub-bub once and for all.

- The crisis happening with the termination squads would be cool to see, or rather, play through. People running around all crazy. Loosing their souls and what not....yes please. Cameo the clueless and confused Stryker, who is still trying to do his job and control the crowds of people unsuccessfully.

It would be kind of cool to incorporate Outwold and Earth characters so that they dont feel like "Oh! look! Suddenly Kenshi appears out of nowhere!"
Even if they where trying to compete in the tournament but didnt quite make it.

But not too much... since i pretty much hate all new characters introduced past MK4

I think that the hard part isn't in working characters in to the mythos of this time period, but in working them in as challengers in the tournament. I mean, I like your idea of saying that Kira is in the SF at this time and so that's how she fits, but Sonya's crew was captured and she was forced to fight for their freedom, so how does Kira get to actually FIGHT in the tournament?

So I guess this is where we run in to that "how much are you willing to change that character's story" issue.

Hopefully, the MK team would be able to work a character in as a contestant that has a logical reason for being there as well as having them worked in to a story without running in to too many of these types of issues.

So yeah, I absolutely like your idea, and I'd even take it one step further:

Work brand new characters in to the existing story if it's a reboot. Because as much as I like the old classics and how they're done up in this game so far, I still want some new blood; characters that have entirely new stories and motivations and of course, special moves and fatalities.

Also, kinda the most important thing about Sonya's MK1 story was that if she didn't win, Shang would kill her team.

And she didn't win.

So they're all dead.
So being a member of Sonya's team makes for a real short story. Your new character is dead a third of the way in.
Actually, that's true of any new character whose story is "I was in the MK1 tournament." Every single person who was there got killed except Liu, Johnny, Sonya, Kano, Scorpion, Raiden, Reptile, Goro, and Shang. I guess you could say "They were there, but nobody knew it" or something, but Ermac, Chameleon, and Kung Lao have all already done that, so that excuse is pretty played out.

No thanks!
Don't overcomplicate and convolute the plot like Shaolin Monks and the later games did.
Don't destroy this part of the Mk storyline too.
I would prefer if the story mode followed the character you select and not keep you jumping to different characters like Mk vs Dc.

I think it would be interesting if they reworked characters from MK4-MK:A into the MK1-3 storyline, if that is indeed what this game revolves around. Not a lot of characters, however. Maybe 2 or 3.

Quan Chi
Drahmin
Kenshi

Those are the only characters post MKT that I cared about.
