Khameleon should definitely return. She had lots of potential, IMO. As for Chameleon, I think we should give him a chance, but give him a name change. If NRS could decide whether Reptile's race are called Raptors or Saurians, they could use the other name for Chameleon. As for his story, he could know what happened to his people, but doesn't really care as long as Shao Kahn rewards him for his loyalty, making him the polar opposite and rival of Khameleon (and possibly Reptile if he ever turns on Kahn).

The other two surface. Lets say Chameleon and Khameleon have been together all along. They know what Kahn did to their race. Maybe they're a couple, but only when their story starts.

Reptile leaves Kahn when he finds out HE was responsible for killing off his race, and he was lied too. The fans get behind Reptile as he strikes out on his own (they would anyway, because we've all known/liked him for years). I wouldn't put him with the Earth warriors just yet... maybe in a few games... but for now lets say they don't trust him, and won't let him into their good guy club just yet... he's kind of a lone wolf for the moment. Struggling.

Chameleon is the dick Saurian who replaces Reptile in Kahn's army. Kahn likes his dick spirit, and treats him better than he ever did Reptile. Gives him everything Reptile never had. Kindof the same vibe he gives Mileena as opposed to Kitana. This gives Chameleon a reason to think Kahn is great and serve him without question, while also giving Reptile a reason to hate Chameleon. Chameleon knows what Kahn did to his race, but doesn't care because he's living the good life.

Meanwhile Khameleon is caught in the middle... she's smarter than Chameleon. She knows Kahn is evil, and can't forgive him for what he did to their people, but she reluctantly stays at Chameleon's side at first. But she doesn't like it, so she's stuck... does she stick the only man of her species she's ever known, on his path to the dark side... or does she abandon him and take up with this new saurian she just met (Reptile) out on his own.

Chameleon still gets to work for Kahn, so the very little backstory he has still works. Khameleon and Chameleon get some new backstory ties to one another. Reptile finally breaks out of his henchman role, which everyone wants. Khameleon helps redeem Reptile a little, and probably renews his spirit later in the story. Perhaps helps him get his foot in with the Earth warriors later. Reptile in turn helps save Khameleon a little, since being without Chameleon is a new way of life for her. They find comfort in eachother. Reptile gets a chick. Reptile gets a new arch-rival in Chameleon. Kahn still has a Raptor in his employ...

Considering I just pulled this out of my butt on the fly, I don't think it's half bad. :P

He's just Shao Kahn's minion. I find him being a minion for 19 years straight to be more "boring" than hooking up with Khammy.

That's why I'm personally for Khameleon being brought in because maybe she'll help dust the cobwebs off of Reptile's story and for once make him interesting.

But that's just me.

Too many living Saurians dilutes the shit out of Reptile's "last of his kind" story.
