Ughhhhh. Never have I been so excited and so nervous of disappointment in my life. Cross gen is going to bum me right the fuck out. It's going to hold back this game completely trying to make it fit with decade old hardware. I was fantasizing completely how incredible MKX would feel and look on next gen only. Look at Arkham Knight! Phenomenal. Now I fear MKX will be subpar and watered down.
I get the excitement for people who don't want to upgrade. But to me, Xbox 360 and PS3 are obsolete. So this greatly disappointing if true.

Oh really clever clogs? Well what other improvements are there? (Besides making it look prettier and shinier, not that that's really possible since 360/PS3 are HD anyway.)

Whatever decision they make will divide opinion. That's inescapable unfortunately.

Me neither. I wouldn't and couldn't get a new console. In fact the only games I play on my 360 on a regular basis are MK/NRS related. Haven't so much as looked at Res Evil in months.

I doubt the amazon.co.uk listing is legit.
cross gen or next gen, I'm still aboard the hype train!

I'm actually quite happy with how many of you want a next-gen only MKX. I never got to play Injustice on PS4 so I'm still curious on how much cleaner it looks. The thing is, if it is cross gen they'd probably have to create everything from the limited power of old systems, and the XBO and PS4 would only get the benefit of higher resolution and maybe frame rate. I could be wrong, but it seems to be the case for most cross gen games.
I really feel like if it is for a 2015 release (i hope so), it'll be PS4 and XBO. Wishful thinking.

Me too! Well we'll know officially tomorrow I guess. I kind of hope they keep the "Mortal Kombat X" title. It's pretty cool sounding and nicely represents the number of games we're at. MKX is better than the boring and plain "Mortal Kombat 2" or Mortal Kombat: *Insert long ass subtitle here*

I agree, it only makes sense with how they could name it IMO. Rebooting MK with MK9 and only calling it Mortal Kombat was smart. Having the X is subtle for people to know it's the tenth, because calling it MK2 would be way too confusing and illogical.
MKX hype train.
Only for MK or Resident Evil games would I buy a new system. I don't care about any other franchises enough to do that for.
I'm not worried about cross gen hampering new gen versions but I don't know the nitty gritty details and we would have no way of knowing what they would not include either. As the OP says anyway, I'm taking this with a pinch of salt although I do love the title being MKX.

Exactly. I mean I would since well, I'm a MK nut. But casual gamers won't do that. "Oh, the new MK looks sweet! Let me go out and buy a brand new $500 video game system for one game!". I think releasing on ALL systems is a smart move, not only will no one be excluded, but it's more money in Neathrealm's pocket.
But I think we all should just wait and see footage of the game for ourselves before we rush to declare that it hasn't reached its full potential. That's silly to say when we haven't even see a screenshot.

I think it's a given there's going to be a huge increase of next-gen sales come Christmas, especially with Uncharted 4, Arkham Knight and Halo 5 coming. A new Mortal Kombat, especially after how successful MK9 and Injustice were critically and with sales, it would only push more to upgrade and get a new system. They could've easily pushed this for next-gen but I can't blame them, or WB, for wanting to play it safe.

I agree. I know it's rude to say to the people on current gen, "Just suck it up and get a new console" but that's pretty much what I would tell them if I was in charge of this decision. The game isn't coming out for a while, so just try to save up some money until then. Everyone isn't in a great financial situation but neither am I, and I was able to get an Xbox One. You won't be getting a console for just ONE game because, duh, you can get more games. I'm pretty sure that sooner or later, there's gonna be a next-gen exclusive that you're really going to want anyway, so it's best to just get with the times. I was really excited to think about this game at its full potential but it sucks if we can't reach that.

I don't mean they'll divide the opinion of the community; I mean they will LITERALLY divide the online community into four groups that can't interact with each other.
If you buy the PS3 version, that means there's three online groups (PS4/Xbone/360) that you won't be able to interact with. That's going to significantly reduce online competition in the long run.

The PS4 and Xbox one have a lot more power, so there's a lot more the game developers could do with it than the last-gen consoled and Wii U. But since it's cross-platform they can't do anything too outlandish with the PS4 or XBone versions. They can make it a little prettier, but if they want to push the systems to their limits graphically or otherwise I'd imagine it would take WAY more work than they're willing to put into it.
Then again, fighting games can do a lot with what the last generation had. Mortal Kombat wasn't the prettiest looking fighting game on the last-gen, so I'm led to believe that more power in the console is not what's really going to make this game better. Not better looking, anyways.
I wouldn't have really cared if it just came out for the new consoles, even though they're not making it for Wii U and that's the only one I have and plan on getting because I could just get it for PC still. But I'll probably get it on PS4 now so I can play it with my friends.

Here's how I kinda see it, they made MK vs DC on last gen systems, then Mk9, then Injustice. That's three games on old hardware. I'm starting to think if the game is coming out next year, which is more than likely, it'll be new gen only.

MKX has a nice feel to it so I hope this is title
I bought PS3 only for MK9 and Castlevania: LOS (well MGS4 and Soul Calibur 4 as well, but they were very secondary), so in some sense MK9 sold me a system. Albeit a week after release of the game, not on the launch. And both games were released on PC...
Even if MKX is not a crossgen, I doubt I'll repeat the same mistake and buy PS4 for it. PC is my favorite gaming platform, so I don't care for the most of the console exculsives and, if MK10 will be on PC sooner or later, there simply won't be any reason for me to invest in a new gaming harware. On the other hand, upgrade of my computer was long overdue.

I guess I'm part of the minority on this issue. I get why some of you want the next MK game to be next-gen only. Personally, I don't have as much time for gaming as I used to, and I neither have the current interest or money to really get a PS4 or X-Box One. At the very least, I have a friend who has an X-Box One, and if he were to get that version of MKX, I'll just play it over his house. For me, I'm currently content with my PS3, and I wouldn't mind getting the PS3 version of the game.
In terms of the actual game itself, I just want NRS to focus a lot on improving the fluidity of the look and feel of the moves/controls, changing things about how the commands of specials are done, and properly balancing out the characters. That's mainly it for me, and I'm not even a big gameplay expert or a high-level player by any means.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 has this feature, and it's on past-gen consoles (PS360) so i don't see why all versions of MKX can't have this!

Next gen can already do that though. You'd just have to record before the match starts. But I agree, that feature would be good for those who aren't on next-gen.

Maybe i'm missing something here, but i really don't see cross generation as a bad thing. Think back to the days of MK1. When that came out you had SNES, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Game Boy and Amiga all running different versions of the game. As a Mega Drive owner at the time, i got to play what was arguably the best version. Including all the blood and fatalities, all the characters and levels.
In those days, the likes of the game gear and master system had less characters, less backgrounds and limited movesets. I dont see why the same couldn't apply here. Ps4 and xb one owners would get the full version, ps3 and xb360 could be minus a couple of characters, levels and features.
Or am I being too simplistic?
