I'm not sure how I feel about this reveal. On one hand I like Kung Lao, and wasn't expecting his conclusion so I'm surprised, but on the other after 3 months of nothing we get another MK9 returning character.
It'll be interesting to see what they do with him in the story, and it gives me a little more hope for Smoke and Jade who I thought would be DLC at best. But then again I think 3D era characters who I was hoping to see redesigned and given another chance now probably won't.
I agree on the whole that the MK1-3 characters are more interesting, but they also have been in more games and given more room to develop movesets and personalities. The 3D era characters were mostly dropped after one game, and there is no reason that if characters like Stryker can be reintroduced and made pretty cool, then why can't they? I just don't get the logic that because a character was 'bland' or 'sucked' in a game over a decade ago that they would be the same now, especially after MK9 completely re-invented the gameplay of the series.

Or discussing 3D era characters...in THIS thread. Or you might just get your head bitten off.
Honestly though, I do believe even the most hated characters from that era can be saved. Especially now with everything they can do and how great MKX's designs are looking.
Would I want that? Naw. Not for a few of them at least. But it's possible.

What are people's problems with the old characters? They are MK. You don't see SF retiring Ryu, Ken or Chun Li. Scorpion Subzero Raiden are MK. I like nee character, but never want to see classic characters go away forever lol

I don't have a problem with any of them, some of them are my absolute favorites. Scorpion for example has been my favorite since I was little kid and I sure am not going to start pretending I don't like him because he became one of the series most recognizable characters and his been in just about every game.

I'll take Havik , Shinnok and Tanya over most Of the newbies from MK3

I wouldn't say that 90% sucked. There were plenty who just need some reworks to be just as good as the old cast but are still salvageable.
That said, I still hope that Jarek, Meat, Kai, Molok, Drahmin, Hsu Hao, Mokap, Blaze, Kira, Kobra, Shujinko, Daegon and Taven should never reappear.
As for who needs some redesign work to be up to par. I'd list Tanya, Onaga, Reiko, Li Mei, Mavado, Frost, Nitara, Dairou, Darrius and Hotaru.
And Kenshi, Fujin, Shinnok, Sareena, Bo Rai Cho and Ashrah are great characters and I'll debate anyone who insists otherwise.
That's six who are already good, ten who need some redesigns but have potential and thirteen who are beyond redemption. That's less than half.

That's absolutely the scar. They most likely didn't include it at first in order to create speculation over which Sub-Zero this is. But I think we will see NRS making the scar more prevalent as we get closer to release.

*sigh* As if features only apply amongst certain individuals.
Did some "Kuai Liang" softspot send personal death threat letters or something? Why can't they give him his original stance back? I am surely not the only one who thinks that hunchback/gorilla stance is not cool.
once again.

Now, did I say "THAT'S GOTTA BE KUAI LIANG BCZ SCAR OLOLOL YAYYY FRRRP" at any point?
No. What I wonder is whether or not there's a scar on that render in the context of the current comic, where Sub-Zero gets one, and it's still kept ambiguous who it actually is.
I'm noting a detail, not hoping for a character. If you'd read any of my posts you'd note that I'm actually a major proponent of Bi-Han coming back for the role.
Try again.

Exactly. I actually think it would be kind of neat if Bi-Han got the scar this time around.

This.
And I think there is a very good chance of it because in MK9 they did the whole thing of repeating certain plot points from the original timeline but changing it up, with the most major obvious example being Subby becoming the cyborg instead of Smoke. It would be a pretty cool twist if they're faking us out and it's Bi-Han who gets the scar this time. Somebody posted the theory here not too long ago that maybe since Bi-Han got thrown into the soulnado in the new timeline instead of Scorpion, he is chosen by the Elder Gods as their champion and resurrected as Sub-Zero. That would be an awesome story.
I wonder if that would mean Kuai Liang is gone and dead forever though?
