So in other words, Mortal Kombat: Kall Of Duty.

Just kidding. But I do hope being EVO-worthy doesn't prevent the developers from being innovative with the series.

Well, neither Sub or Scorp were particularly good in MK9, but I think you misunderstood JAX007. If the characters keep their core gameplay design, then not only will the game evolve faster, but competitive players don't have to start from scratch. He didn't say to make them IDENTICAL; just keep the design philosophy and special intact. If you put over a year into a character, it's nice to know those efforts are going to translate into MKX.

And anyhoo, not implementing huge changes makes balancing a lot easier. Boon likes to create drastic changes from game to game, and that often creates strange variables. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that MKX has the same basic gameplay engine.

Though I don't think it's fair to call people tier whores for petitioning for their main. People who pick tier are precisely the ones who DON'T care if their mains come back because no matter what happens, they'll be playing the best character in the game (whoever that may be). Competitive types who petition for their character to come back are either loyalists or players who like the character style. Noob was trash in MK9, but there were a lot of competitive Noobs because people liked the character/style.

If you ever want to learn how to beat an overpowered character, play as that character against the CPU at a high difficulty, the higher the better. Use the overpowered moves and watch what the opponent does to counter it. This works best when the CPU is a character you play with most.

Thing is, the computer can read your inputs. It's able to do the best possible option because it doesn't have to guess or react. Unless you can forward jump on reaction to Tombstone Drop, knowing the best option only goes so far. I mean, you can look for patterns and guess when he's going to do it, but if you guess wrong, he gets free damage, and the cycle repeats.

But like I said, I never played Deception at that level. I played online a lot back when it just came out, but the Bo Rai Cho infinite shenanigans broke my spirit.

What's wrong with starting from scratch? It keeps things exciting, and less predictable. Competitive players who don't like that sound lazy. It didn't annoy me that Baraka in MK9, and the Joker in Injustice, played differently than they did in the DC crossover.

They don't need to change everything all the time. I actually wouldn't mind another MK game with gameplay similar to MK9's, if only to play as new characters under that gameplay, but they should do their best to avoid predictability. Everything I'm reading about making a MK game EVO-worthy sounds like it's advocating almost total predictability.

Well, the engine was different back then. If Baraka and the Joker had kept their gameplay designs, they still would have functioned differently in the new game. Also, MKvsDC was so unbalanced. The characters who were good were only good because of exploits and infinites.

But starting from scratch is not a matter of hard work vs. laziness. Farming out strategies in a fighting game is a process that can take years. Honestly, no one REALLY knew how to play the neutral game in MK9 till about March 2012. The more common ground MKX has with the previous game, the faster we see the game at high level. In that sense, everyone wins.

I don't know how much is carrying over from MK9, but I can assure you there's going to be a new universal mechanic. Even if Smoke or Sonya have the same moveset, there's going to be something in the game that fundamentally changes how they were work. That's Ed Boon's thing. We may even get something like the trait system in Injustice.

I seriously hope Boon doesn't change everything up.

When will he learn not to fix what isn't broken? MK9 has a very good system. It just needs to be updated for newer consoles. A few extra tweaks are fine, but he doesn't need to replace it.

I'll agree with that.

I caught a lot of shit for using Kung Lao in MK9. He's my favorite character but people thought I picked him because he was top tier. How was I supposed to know he'd be like that? Not like I knew going into it he'd be that good.

Or with MK10, I plan on picking up Fujin and Kai. And I don't give a DAMN if they're god tier or bottom tier, I'll play them because I like them.

I agree with those who are saying that characters from MK9 should keep the same gameplay move sets and transferred over to MK10. The fighting engine in MK9 is the best so far, and it should just be updated a little, I would prefer for them not to give say for example Kabal, Kung Lao, Reptile, different move sets in MK10 than they did in MK9. It will bring back both the casual fans of MK9 as well as the competitive players.

I like that they kept the old school uppercuts and sweeps. The ninja jump punch is a great move that can start extensive combo strings. Loved the X-rays, hope those are in the sequel as well.

They fucking better be.

X-Rays are one of the single greatest innovations in the MK series since Fatalities.

I don't get it some of you want MK2 to be next-gen exclusive. If that happens then it will most likely not use existing engine.

I agree!

I just can't see anything else replacing X-Rays that would be more innovative.

This also makes me wonder if returning characters will have the same X-rays or maybe an updated version?

They will definitely be updated.

X-Rays may very well become a staple of MK. If so, it will require the upmost innovation, much like fatalities.

Remember the classic characters in MKT? Maybe some, or all of the last game's most played characters' MK9 selves could appear in the next game as separate characters from the then-current versions, if the gameplay ends up being similar to MK9's. That way, they can still revamp a character, and allow competitive players to retain their main(s) from MK9.

Surely, Kitana can't be the only character you play with.

You gotta have others, right?
In the past I'd play with Sonya, Mileena, Jade, Raiden, Jax, Sindel and sometimes Kung Lao quite often but in MK9 Kitana was really the only character whose play style I really gravitated towards. In fact it was the first game I found myself not maining Sonya as well. Jax is really the only other character I liked playing as.

Not funny.

I wasn't even trying to be funny AND i don't even know where you got that i was trying to be funny from, but whatever.

I'm glad she's gone.

Next time don't put 'lol' for the sake of it.

I find it funny that the "most iconic MK female" is being downgraded to a supporting character, hence me saying "lol", my post wasn't supposed to amuse YOU, LEARN the difference

This removal could point to numerous things.

Strassman could have indeed dropped out of the production; however, that doesn't mean Kitana is no longer in the game, as voice actors are replaced all the time.

Conversely, it could be a protective messure, as MK10 is not yet set in stone. Strassman may have just wanted to keep her resume clean.

Or, and the least likely, it could be another of Boon's troll endeavors.

Or she could just be playfully fucking around with people on Twitter.....things voice actors and celebrities are known to do.

Obviously she can't give a definitive answer yet.

This Mileena reference is for MKX, right? Glad she's in and will be playable, can't say so much for Kitana, oh well. Kitana may be in, but not playable...God enough for me.

Is there talk about another MK Fighter as well?

Just a little confused...

People believe because it's MK2 they're referring to the next game in the series, because MK9 was just called Mortal Kombat, people just refer to it as MK9 because it's the 9th game in the franchise. It was most likely an error anyway, there's nothing confirmed.

"Maybe" always means yes. If a person's not contracted to do a job, they always say so because there's no incentive to lie to their fans, and there's no NDAs for people who DON'T have work. The only reason to be coy is because you are in something and want the details to be a surprise. The question is really just "Is she playing just one or both, and how big will their roles be?"

or...the legal people of NetherRealm Studios told the recent voice actors/actress to shut the fuck up about next project regardless if they're in or not so they won't spoil anything.

or....probably it's a general contract thing for a VA that they can never flat out deny being featured in any upcoming games due to spoilers.
