After watching the trailer around 30 times, I am still at a loss at what the variation indicator on his costume is..

I am fairly confident that the variation he is using feature the tongue. This is my best guess, it makes the most sense that one of his variations features the tongue and it was even speculated early on.

But the variation indicator is apparently not easily identifiable..

..unless it truly is his skin. the variation indicator is meant to be immediately obvious for the opponent. His skin would be perfect for identifying him in different variations.

And his reptilian skin makes most sense for his "lizard tongue variation".

Jesus fucking Christ. This game becomes even more of a joke with every new reveal.

Lmao, Such progress, ay?

This game is nothing but the same old, same old. Same popular faces, same stale stories, only with the added illusion of new characters, most of whom will probably be dumped after this game.

Sorry, but no. You can't make these broad assumptions when the game isn't even out. You DON'T know the entire story, so how exactly is it stale? How do you know Reptile will be a punching bag in this game? You fucking don't. You're assuming all of this over one fucking trailer.

The game may be a joke to you guys, but more than likely the majority of MK fans will love it and it will be a success. Just like MK9.

The reptile reveal thread has become overrun by trolls and flamers. I am making this thread for people to discuss reptile and only reptile; good and bad.

But we can leave all the nonsense complaining of NRS' reveal strategies outside. And i know it is hard to not respond to the trolls, so a lot of good discussion points are being overlooked.

Ill start the discussion off with some questions:

Has anyone noticed a variation indicator on his costume? (I have not) Could this mean his skin is the variation indicator?

What do you think is the variation showcased in the trailer? What moves do you think are attributed to it? My guess is the tongue moves; but could it be invisibility? Could it be both?

As soon as I saw the costume I thought that his skin would be a variation identifier. Just makes too much sense. Haha

Also I think we may have been seeing an Acid variation. Lots if acid moves going on there.

Honestly after watching the trailer for god knows how many times i couldn't really pinpoint a specific to this variation. It honestly look like Reptile without a variation like in past MK games. Maybe his acid does lingering damage to the enemy when hit by it? I don't know if that makes sense because shouldn't his acid do that in every variant?

That is a good point. Acid was flying around.

I am assuming the acid spit will be a transcending special attack. (In all variations) but you could be right, the acid puddle and acid-puke-in-face attack could be variation specific.

Tomorrow's twitch cast will be showing off the 4 new characters and their variations in depth I am hoping

I think the bone collar thing might be a variation indicator.

I also think that he'll specifically have an acid variation (with forceballs as universal moves).

Another variation might focus on invisibility/stealth, maybe? As a defense-oriented variation. Maybe some armor against projectiles.

I also believe that his variation will be his skin type. I'm thinking one of his variations will have pale human like skin, and the last variation will probably add a tail.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe the bone skull on his belt, maybe there are different skull shapes that indicate his fighting style.

No one can tell what the Variation is because you're not supposed to know yet. They "turned it off" just for Trailer sake. Just like you cannot tell what the fuck is Kitana's Variation.
If they demonstrate him tomorrow, it will be aware of then because they will tell you.

Everything shown from Reptile in the trailer is universal.
That's why the video looks as if it's just a normal MK9 Reptile fighting.
This is the real reason why some people are bummed about the gameplay demonstration itself. Nothing that hints a Variation was shown and that was on purpose, only a few people realized that and say "Wait for the Variations to be explained". With that said, that's why the Throws that was shown in the video is highly praised and talked about because it was really the unfamiliar thing shown.

And the "tongue thing"...is his throw. It's not a special move attack.

Not too sure about the variation indicator.

Looks like it's an Acid Variation that's in the trailer.

*His throw is cool and I hope he has a Tongue Variation tongue

He seems to have 2 possible grab moves: The tongue hanging move, and the acid-puke move.

Wonder what the button dynamic of each are?

The tongue hanging move is a normal throw.

the acid-puke grab is either a command grab or part of the combo.

that's my guess

You must be right, after watching it again the tongue one is definitely a normal grab.

I thought the low ankle kick to a flip attack looked awkward at first. But it has really grown on me. It is actually kind of badass.

Not to mention, low to high attacks are always useful.

After watching the video multiple times I noticed that there are no jumps or spots that looked they were showing different clips, so it seems like what we saw was from one variation.

Its tough to say what his variations will be. I'm guessing one is based on his acid attacks (probably the one in the video) but im having a hard time trying to figure out what the others would be.

I have some ideas but nothing that I am confident enough in to say it will definitely be one.

Low to high is not that useful really.

Low to overhead is very useful and a bit tricky to block.

Also his Low to high is a bit too slow so your opponent can see it coming.

But reptile still seems to have as much rush down abilities as he had in mortal kombat 9.

He definitely seems very powerful and I can't wait to kick some ass with him online because I really love how he looks and especially his fighting stance!

Tongue Variation

Tongue Pull- lashes it out at opponent and brings them in.
Tongue Trip- lashes tongue, wraps around the ankles and jerks his head back causing them to fall.
Tongue Squeeze- tongue wraps around the upper torso and it squeezes them.
Slurpy: (close/med/far)- tongue comes out and with a strong lick, he pops his opponent into the air. Follow up with a slide to string into a combo.

Lol, just a thought tongue
