Tanya and Jade - dark skinned or white washed?

If Jade was to return, would you want her to have her dark skin from UMK3 and MKD, or her white washed appearance from MK9?
I like Jade, and if she's in the game, i hope they bring back her dark skin color from earlier games:
What's up with videogame developers' obsession with bleaching the skin of their dark skinned black characters?
Reminds me of Vanessa from Virtua Fighter:

Dark, but doubtful she will be in MKX.

I can't help but feel this thread will go badly.
But I'll go ahead and answer your question: I hope she comes back with the same look she had in MKD.
I know something like MK is just fantasy but that gives it even less of an excuse for a lack of diversity. We can imagine hobbits, zombies, ice ninjas, superheroes etc. in fiction but not lots of people of color?
That's my response to the standard, "but it's just fantasy so it doesn't matter what their skin color is!" cop-out you hear when the topic of diversity in fiction is brought up.

Unlike many here I do know this is a valid discussion as someone who majors in Sociology. I'm just not sure people here are mature enough to have this discussion without it turning into, "stop putting teh PC in muh video games!!1".

I don't see why this thread would turn into a mess. There's other threads with people asking for gay russian characters, more black people, real asians, etc which i can see why people get annoyed with, but this thread is more about, like, wondering why the developers felt the need to white-wash one of their already few black characters, and this applies to other games, not only MK.

Make Jade dark just like her original creation.
Could you imagine if they made Scorpion and Sub Zero black? All hell would break loose, because that wasnt the case In the beginning. Dont give Jade the Michael Jackson treatment. Lol. I dont care personally, but you know people have a set perception of skin color subconsciously as it is.

I feel you. Hopefully it can be a good discussion. Perhaps I'm just feeling too cynical about this forum tonight.

D A R K. I was so disappointed by that light-skinned render NRS tossed around during the MK9 promotional era.
I don't understand why they can't be consistent with her skin tone in this day and age. It's not hard with today's (or even 2011's) tech, so there's just no excuse whatsoever.
Yes, she looked dark in lovely in the actual game thank goodness, but as a Jade fan, I want her to look dark and lovely everytime they draw her - in any medium.

I agree.
It's like whitewashing Jax, which thankfully they have never done.

Not only in the render (where she looked WHITE) but her skin in her in-game model was way lighter than her previous appearances (like in MKD). I was also very disappointed, especially because, for her, i feel like her dark skin tone in MK3 and MKD complemented beautifully her green eyes.
Jade's MK9 render is a very poor representation of how she looks in the game. It looks like another character. They often have a that problem with consistency with many of the characters looks, in the very same game.
With that said, the white washing of characters in games is completely lame and I'd be disappointed to see that happen again even if just on artwork.

True but her in-game model was still considerably white-washed compared to her MKD one for example. Jax was still dark skinned in MK9 so there is NO excuse for Jade's case.
I wish I could remember what thread it was in, I think it was asking what nationality or race is Jade.
There was a long discussion about the tone of her skin color. Razor, as the obvious stubborn brat that he always is, denied that she changed throughout each game, or something similar towards that. I placed all her sprites and 3D models in Photoshop and indeed saw the differences in every single tone.
I saw that she did indeed changed skin tones every single game that she has been in. They honestly do not have the color that they chose listed somewhere in a file or whatever and stick with it. The render for her 2011 appearance was a joke. She looked white with a faded tan.
She debuted as a dark skinned character, she should remain dark skinned. They don't need to lighten her up or anything, leave her dark.

Not saying I agree with it but they were probably trying to harken more back to her original MKII appearance because MK9 was a nostalgiafest.

When she pops up in the comic, Dexter Soy and Shawn Kittleson better get her skintone right. It's a shame that this is even a "thing" with her.

Actually, Jax was darker in MKvsDC...and again looked like a completly different person. The MK9 version probably looks more his older iterations tho.
There's really a consistency issue in the series in general, not just with skin colour, but facial and body structure ect.

From what I remember, his face in MK4/Gold looked nothing like John Parrish.

One thing is not being able to get the facial features right from game to game, i imagine getting said features of a character to be exactly the same or very similar to their previous appearance must be a hard thing to achieve, but how hard is it for them to get skin color right?
And MK9 Jax being just as dark skinned as he was in previous appearances isn't what i was trying to get at, maybe his skin was lighter compared to DC, but he still looked like a black person. Jade looked like a tanned white girl, and that's not what she looked like in Deception.

Really? I thought she looked a lot like Pocahontas in MK9, which I find acceptable and accurate. I didn't get see a tanned white girl from her in-game model. Just that ridiculous artwork had me upset.
