As a character modeler, it shouldn't be hard to get facial features right for a second game. Sorry but they have amateurs modeling characters. If they can't be consistent, then it's going to look goofy every time.

There's also no reason why Jade has to have different colored skin. It's poor on their end whe they can keep consistency up in their creations. But Jade is not the only character who is at fault, even Sonya doesn't have a consistent face. It bothers me that they can't design just using better programs and engines.

Looking at some in-game shots of her, I can see how you perceived "tanned white girl". So nevermind. Like Jax, I'm not disagreeing. Ultimately, this perception issue shouldn't exist. Her MKD look was mint.

Really? Out of the 11 playable characters from MKvsDC, i feel like they did a GREAT job getting Sonya, Kano and Raiden's faces right in MK9 (right as in extremely similar to the previous game). In fact, i always felt as if they recycled their MKvsDC faces. Liu Kang and Jax though look completely different, and it's hard to judge the masked characters although you can tell Kitana did get a new face, she had a horribly round face in MKvsDC and huge eyes that didn't carry over.

If you're referring to previous games (MK4 -> MKDA, etc) then i agree.

This is a ridiculous question for anybody to ask. Jade is from a fictional planet; unless we know something about races and ethnicities in Edenia it's a completely pointless thing to even consider.

The only thing anyone can say for certainty is that Jade is dark-skinned. Whether she appears to be similar (in design) to African (black), Indian (not black), South-East Asian (not black), or Native American (not black) is completely at the mercy of whichever artist designed her for a particular game. She does not have an established race, other than being Edenian.

honestly. what they did to jade is relatively tame compared to DoA's Lisa and Virtua Fighter's Vanessa (vitiligo much?). the Japanese fighting games don't like having dark skinned chicks in their roster.

Jade in general always seemed to have an appearance of a dark skinned East-Indian but in MK9 they took away the dark orange/reddish tint she's always had in the previous games.

my guess is that the MK team overlooked the fact that her current skin color was not consistent with the past games.

Hopefully they fix this in the next game Jade appears in (certainly won't be MKX)

And hopefully Tanya doesn't magically turn asian in MKX.

They already white-washed Tanya in MKD, in MK4 she was dark-skinned (comparable to UMK3 Jade) but in MKD, although i guess she could pass as black due to her features, she had lighter skin tone than Jade both in art and in game.

Jade is absolute perfection in MK(9,2011) so if she would return, I hope it will be like that.

Jade is top 3 female for me. She's great. Kitana and Li Mei are white, so I wouldn't mind Jade being an olive skinned Mediterranean just for the sake of diversity. But I don't really care about her skin tone.

It's kinda childish that people are bashing Razor, he's not here to defend himself and most debates that I read that he was in, he was always right. This is a good discussion to have about Jade, unfortunately, it always turns into a debate. I will say that political correctness and progressivism are ruining everything though.

Anyway, back to Jade, I prefer her with dark skin. She has always had dark tan skin. The only situation that people should be complaining about Jade's skin tone is her MK2 costume in MK9. That was weird that they made her white in that costume. Her render in MK9 was just a render, yes her skin should have been darker in the render but it was still dark in the game. Jade has always had dark skin in every game she has been in: MK2, UMK3, MKD, MKSM, MKA, and MK9. The only real inconsistency was her DLC MK2 costume.

I think MK Deception did a great job with Jade, and Tanya for that matter.

Deception still to this day has some of my favorite costume designs. Love Jade, Tanya and Mileena's designs. In my opinion, those three still have yet to be topped for the specific characters. This. Dude's not even here anymore and yet he's still a great contributor to a fan podcast despite what he said in the past, doesn't matter anymore, it's irrelevant. People have opinions, people have tempers, people lose tempers, people make mistakes. Every day. Multiple times a day. Every week. Every month. Every year. People in general are fuck ups. It's human nature. That shit is done. It's immature to still even be bringing it up and talking about it instead of just being adults and letting it go.

This had to be a concious decision from NRS, because Raiden, Scorpion, Sonya, Kano, Sub-Zero, and Shao Kahn look the same from MKvsDC to MK9, whereas Liu Kang, Jax, and Kitana look completely different. I preferred Jax in MKvsDC up until I actually played MK9, but seriously Kitana was wayyy better in the previous game. Why they decided to change it, I have no clue, but I'm glad there was some consistency. I hope on a go-forward we see more of that.

I always saw Jade as really tanned, like someone from Brazil or middle east, but literally never, in any of her incarnations, though of her as a black woman, she just doesn't have the features and the color of her skin has always been closer to tanned skin IMO. Not that I have a problem with her being black, but I never though she was because I didn't though she looked like it.

And speaking about it, I also don't think Tanya counts as black either, maybe there are more arguments for her than with Jade, but I don't see it either.

I'd put them both on Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson's category where it's so mixed that you don't have any idea what ethnicity they're supposed to be.

My comment was not really meant as an insult. I've always called him a stubborn brat and he knows that. I am not going to insult him by calling him a fucktard or whatever was used, even though I will admit I've never liked him. That's just mean and unfair.

I was more so trying to explain how her skin has changed always, it's never stayed a persistent tone. She was either dark or light. He didn't really see eye to eye with what I had to say here and didn't really quite just let it be.

But then it spilled into some other hot topic that I kinda dashed out of because he was going at it with another user who no longer is here.

This topic really made me remember that thread because it had very interesting debates before some kinda took it too personally.

I said in my earlier post, the only inconsistent skin tone Jade has had is her MK2 DLC costume in MK9. She has had dark skin in every game. I don't understand why people think she hasn't.
