Are Stryker and Nightwolf still hated?

I've been lurking since mk5.org and have noticed from the beginning that Stryker and Nightwolf were universally hated by almost everyone. They were bar none, the least liked characters and were seen as jokes. After Armageddon it seems that the hatred for Stryker died down and that people either like him now, or are generally apathetic towards him. I'm not too sure though. Nightwolf I remember being hated as well, but after Deception everyone seemed to REALLY start liking Nightwolf. To me it seemed that he went from a really despised character to one that was VERY popular.

I would like to see input from the rest of you guys. What were and are your opinions on Stryker pre and post Armageddon, and Nightwolf pre and post Deception?

Oh and another add on I suppose, who do you think are/is the most hated character/s now? I think it's between Hsu Hao and Mokap, but again I haven't been on these boards for a while so maybe opinion has changed.

I don't like Stryker at all. He's a dick and some lucky cop that Raiden seemed to like for some reason.

However, I do very much like Nightwolf. I play him a lot in Deception and he is a really good fighter, especially in Chess Kombat for some reason. I really like his story, also and the way he sees visions of the future e.g. Onaga's return in his dreams is really cool. His 'Spirit Arrow' and 'Lightning from Above' moves are really cool and fun to use. Overall I would just call him a really cool character.

Not as cool as Raiden though wowwowwow

But yeah, I hate Stryker. However, some people class him as 'under appreciated'. But I don't see what there is to appreciate.

I never rememeber Nightwolf being hated. I remember peoples distaste towards Stryker though.

Personally, I've always liked the both of them ALOT. I used to beat-some-ass with Stryker and Nightwolf. I think they had some of the best combos in MK3-T.

I never understood why people didn't like Styker...but he and Nightwolf have always been favorites of mine.

Because anyone who shows at least some ethnic, culutral or enviromental difference that is not accustomed or alien is deemed as a failure.

I hold Hsu Hao in higher regard than any of the ninjas, variety is much more pleasing than rehearsal of the stereotypical perfect-warrior-ninja pastiche...

I guess I could only "hate" those two for their uninteresting appearance, although I do think shamans are something more special than plain cops... Can't you see those everywhere?

Otherwise, Stryker and Nightwolf are both excellent combatants, you just need to KNOW HOW TO PLAY with them. One of the reasons why Sub Zero and Scorpion are popular are perhaps their cheap special moves (couldn't virtually everyone beat the row by only paralyzing the opponent with the spear or freezing, with an occasional timing?)

ay off stryker
hes a normal guy who just kicks ass
plus, if you use him, he's really good, especially in armaggedon

as for nightwolf, i think people just didnt take the time to try hium and understand him. plus, his animality was uncreative. they should ave made him into something other than a wolfwinkwinkwinkwinkwink

Well, Stryker was one of those characters that I hated very much in the earlier games,however now that he’s “old school”, I kind of appreciate his presence. I still don’t like him, but its an aged hate that I have grown to love. I love to hate him. . .and so I would never want him to be taken out of the games. (kind of how "the Angry Video Game Nerd loves bad games. .. kind of the same thing)

And Hsu Hao is bar none the most hated character. Hell even Vogel hates him. Ha ha ha .

Personally, I liked Nightwolf better in MK3 than in Deception.

In 3, he had that leather vest and his pants could've passed for bluejeans.

Then in Deception all of a sudden he's wearing nothing but animal skin clothes in bright red and blue and brown and his alternate costume even has a mohawk.

It's like they completely forgot the original concept of the character was to be more modern and ordinary guy, and NOT just rip off T. Hawk or Chief Thunder or any other stereotypical video game indian.

Haha Corndog125nalald put it very well. I love to hate Stryker. Imagine like the Mortal Kombat participants getting together with their martial arts and special powers and such then this riot cop comes in and says well I know how to fire my gun and throw grenades... OOH... weren't you leaving Stryker?

I remember when Nightwolf and Stryker were hated. But then I also remember when Rayden was disliked a lot more than he is now (that will alarm Predator151). Stryker gained popularity when he got redeveloped and Mokap was introduced. I think his introduction was deliberate. You'd take extra pleasure from beating him wouldn't you?

I never really heard anyone "hate" Nightwolf, but many did second-rate him.
Personally, Nightwolf's one of my favorite characters,
but Stryker isn't haha. I think his wardrobe has a lot to do with it.

Stryker is hated by most because he is a regular person with a gun. He isn't cool like Liu kang or Reptile.
Nightwolf though is really cool. I like his special moves alot.tongue
